There’s was a complicated relationship ... but I believe he did truly love her ... throughout it all she was his rock ... despite his despicable treatment of her , she understood him and the looks he gave her ..... the way he reaches for her hand ... it was good to see you too ( he had me there ) ...... no doubt he loved her .

He was grateful. He just couldn't express it. He said as much in one scene when he said, "Without you, I..." On another video, someone explains it well. He loves her but doesn't want to because she was his father's choice and a reminder of the life he didn't get to have (as an artist). So he takes it out on her. But he's also mad at himself for caring about her which is why he has such a hard time expressing it.

@@GaelinW Like it or not his father did him a favor by marrying him off to a strong, intelligent, opinionated, and beautiful woman that had a lot of courage. It was ballsy of her to ride into the signoria on horseback to make her husband's case. I understand that Bianca was his first love, but we all have one of those, and most times it doesn't work out because it's just a trial run for what's really important, not that it mattered to him. He wanted to be angry and resentful to his parent's and Contessina was just in the line of fire. He made sure that she understood his resentment. But to me his resentment was childish why would you want to punish someone that was loyal and an asset doesn't make sense. What did Bianca have to offer? all the romance and fantasy would have burned out and reality would have set in and that was not a pretty picture he would have been disinherited, he was a mediocre artist he was no Donatello. He and Bianca and the kids would have starved, what a dumbass. Plus Contessina brought nobility to his house he married up she married down, not a good deal for her, she got screwed in that transaction. Then he gets exiled and takes a mistress, again Contessina gets screwed. I guess the question is did he love her, you said that he cares about her is that like "I value you" like you value a horse or a cow what does that mean? that he sees her as property, which she undoubtedly was. I think she should have gotten out of this marriage before the first anniversary. Just saying!

@@rachelmiller9280 - Yeah, I'm pretty sure he realized all that eventually. Again, it was not just not having the woman he wanted - if it ever was at all - it was about being forced to live a life he never wanted to lead anyway. The wife he didn't pick was just another injury. Yes, we've all had a first love, and we all know while in the midst of it, we all think it's going to last forever. And, lastly, it's the 16th century and they're Catholics. There's no getting out of a marriage that has been consummated. The couple can live apart and the man can screw all the women he wants and make all the babies he can, but the woman might as well join a convent or be disgraced. Oh, and the kids were considered his "property." No joint custody back then.

@@GaelinW Yeah like I said he was resentful and Contessina was in the line of fire, he was angry with his parents, but it doesn't change the fact that he was childish. He resented her but she had no choice in the transaction she was a commodity.

He didn't deserve her. She was way to good for him, and to good and loyal to him, when he wasn't to her.

I wish we could have a collection of all the cut footage of Cosimo and Contessina. I can't get enough of them. For example - he must have given her the cross necklace at some point and we never saw that....

She is the most supportive person.she saved this man and his family.

Contessina and Clarice really supported the Medici men. They wouldn't have accomplished what they did without the wives. The women unfortunately were overlooked

I think you need to not judge it by the standards of the 21st century, but of the 15th in which they lived. When he was forced to marry her (and vice versa) they didn't know each other. This was the norm for noble families. Infidelity was almost a given, because that relationship was the emotional, romantic one, where your relationship with your spouse was more a business arrangement. By 15th cent standards, Cosmo is a dream catch: he doesn't hit her, he is rich, he protects her, and they do function as a team. It's pretty much a good marriage.

Damn. No one has a right to have eyes that blue.

I had written in Archives of Our Own some fanfictions between Cossimo and Contesina. One of them was named "The prayer of Cossimo" but my account is orphan. I understood how fanfictions were not made for me. At last in that way and i left. But i tried to describe a desesperante love that Cossimo is feeling for her since the first moment when he kisses her after His advice to her of familiar loyalty in their commitent. He blames Contesina BC being with her means this new Life that His father, Florence and the family imposes to him. Cossimo is selfish...he does not think how this marriage was imposed for her too. How if he loved Bianca she loved Ezio. And....on top of that, he feeling passion for the same person Who he pretend to Blame and hate....for that their romance is so masochist by His part. But Cossimo's attacks of passion for Contesina like when she hitted him are so great. For that this is a superb job!!

he could have ..but it was those times when man used to think they are superior..i know it's wrong but it was like that ..and she was not his first love..and it was a arranged marriage...so it took him longer than her to be respectful towards her..but eventually he started caring for her...it just shows that no two person are same..she showed him her love while he couldn't..but he loved her too..
