Some fighters are never the same mentally after delivering such a devestating knockout. Just look at Uriah Hall, dude was never the same and could never pull the trigger quite the same. From what I remember, he picked up MMA for self defence and to build up his confidence. He doesn't have it in him to almost kill a man and feel close to zero remorse the way Jon Jones does.

I've seen training footage of him going too hard and it's not because he's mauling anyone or bullying them it's exactly what you see in his fights; he throws one explosive move really fast and rocks his training partner but that's not bullying, that's just not having great control of your weapons. He can KO people if he doesn't have to watch himself do it basically

Even when that person came out saying TJ made him retire from a training injury caused by TJ, it turns out that was fabricated also, he said years later it wasn't actually the real reason why he retired. Team Alpha Male were making up so much dsinfo no one even knew what was true anymore, but they were making a fortune from it also and getting title fights. It was one of the most hyped up periods in UFC history, alongside the Connor McGregor stuff.

I bet Cory mainly felt this way because of how quickly the fight went. If that knee came in the 5th after a back and forth fight I think he wouldn’t have felt so guilty. Winning like this makes it obvious how far Frankie was past his prime, and a fighter like Cory would never want to beat someone at their worst.

Disagree. He wasn't the favorite for that fight and a lot of people didn't know what he could do, he hadn't really fought anyone till then, Assuncao was on the decline, and lineker retired after that fight. I'd like to see a rematch with Bautista. He IMO beat TJ and the one that really turned people off was Yan. Cause cory could have beat Yan. I bet if they rematched he would easily. Still can't wait for Suga vs Cory. Love them both, arguably the best BW matchup IMO

He immediately jump on the guy's back, pulled him onto the ground in a rear naked choke and ended the fight in seconds. Was the quickest turn-around I've ever seen and the whole audience was just stunned and didn't even know who to cheer for. But I did!

This is part of the game people don't often think about. Most fighters aren't animals that want to permanently injure someone else. Most are just competitors that want to better themselves and the only way to do that at a certain point is through competition. When I worked in the MMA industry the absolute worst part for me was seeing the fighters get badly injured.

Unfortunately money wasn’t the issue in his case, some people don’t know when to quit. He was talking about how he feels he retired “early” due to the fact he still wants to compete. Money probably did play a factor since he was on a very nice contract but some of these guys just feel empty without competition.

A man of great heart and immense character. That's how a real martial artist should conduct himself!

He's too decent a human being to be in that business. The damage they can inflict on each other can be life changing, even life ending. It's a huge dilemma for professional fighters, MMA or otherwise. Lucky for me, I have no fighting skill and will never be faced with that dilemma.

I feel like the UFC barely promotes him as a solid fighter. I know it’s a lot on the fighter to have a presence on their own but it feels like he gets zero love in general and he’s awesome to watch.

@@user-by6eb6zo7g Tbh I agree with you. I got like 6' more reach than Sandhagen and I'm just under 6ft. That said, it's not impossible for them to be in that weightclass, O'Malley especially. He looks like a twig. I'm like 160-170lbs and already look way more broadly built than him, and I'm only 22. Men get way more dense as we age. So I really do think O'Malley is just very slender of frame naturally. He says he's like 150lbs outside of weight cuts.

My first boxing match I knocked my opponent out. I actually felt terrible about it instead of any sort of accomplishment. It can be a fun story now but in the moment I was more sad about hurting the guy than I was, happy, about winning the match. Certainly an odd feeling.

My first sparring match was similar. guy was older and bigger than me but I was faster, I got a good left jab on his rib and a right hook on his head he immediately dropped and started crying. Felt so bad but kinda good later on. Its always more tiring and hurtful to throw a punch than to take one, physically and emotionally.

Mad respect to this fighter. It was a super clean hit but because of the circumstances he was super humble and more concerned about his combatant than his win. Lots of douchie fighters celebrate their dirty victories shamlessly while their rival is struggling to breathe on the ground.

I Love martial artists like Corey (and there _are_ a lot of them at that UFC-level), who embody the true spirit of sportsmanship, Bushido etc! SOOooOOooOoo much better than those clowns like McGregor who are TERRIBLE role-models for kids that look up to them! Down that same path, have gone two more fighters I used to admire for their skill, Israel Adesanya and Sean O'Malley 😐 While have disdain for those, the ones i really despise are the ones who full-well-know that someone is TOTALLY K.O'd, and they still give them another (or several) KING HIT to the head! I just see RED when i see that. As a fighter, you KNOW when someone is full-blasted, totally KO'd (esp when they aren't even moving) - to then go smash them again, is bloody assault and i don't care how many fools say, _'it's the ref's job',_ jibber jabber, that is irrelevant!

This is my least favorite KO ever. Not because its Cory, its probably the best perfectly timed flying knee ever, but because its Frankie. Hes my favorite fighter all time so seeing him get KO'd like that hurts to see. The way his career ended makes me depressed a little bit. He deserved better but thats fighting

I mean you may not intend to knock them out, but if you commit an action like that saying sorry about it right after isn't going to repair the damage. Cory didn't need to fight Frankie and risk knocking him out cold, he could've fought someone else. I suppose the honour of fighting him outweighed the chance of knocking him out like he did, but don't feel sorry about it, just understand the risks and know that it was all meant to be.

​@@jdbruiserYou obviously don't know how the UFC brass works. Fighters don't get to choose who they fight, refusing to fight a guy that the UFC thinks you should beat is a slap in the face to them. If your employer gives you an opportunity you take it. Saying no has way too many repercussions. The UFC has screwed fighters who turn down fights.

​​@@jdbruiser Frankie has knocked other people out. I agree. Dude was a hell of a fighter in his prime. What does that have to do with being sad that he got hurt? I didn't want any of his opponents to get hurt either, I just wanted Frankie to win the competition. I trained MMA for a while (only like a bit more than a year, then got a neck injury and quit immediately lmao) and it made me realize what a crazy dynamic beautiful display of skill and athleticism (and often mental&physical toughness) it is. It's fighting, people get hurt. That doesn't mean you gotta be indifferent about it. I don't understand why anyone who cares about the athletes would be. I don't watch MMA to see people who dedicated their last 20 years to a sport I love get their brains bashed in and get their dreams ruined forever. I watch it because it is fascinating to see who will win and how. Why the fuck else would you watch? Are you just waiting for someone to get badly injured so you can jack off to it or something??

I respect his sportsmanship but dude threw a flying knee......what did he think was going to happen?

I sort of asked myself the same question when I first saw it. It's the main reason I don't think I could ever take up fighting. But it might be one of those things where he'd never experienced it and really didn't expect it to feel the way it felt inflicting that kind of damage on someone.
