    I found that if you remove the fill plug first the fluid doesn't "glug" out the drain hole as much and is easier to manage any potential mess.

    Froggy, I bought my 04 c5z a couple of months ago and I watch your videos non-stop. So much so that my wife sees me staring at my phone and yells "froggy again?" Anyway, these videos have been invaluable to me as a guy new to the c5z and new to wrenching on my own track car. Big fun. Already done a track day and autoX this season in MN and the car has been great. Thanks again!

    Great series of videos, Froggy. It's refreshing to see you share your progress with other Vette enthusiasts. Keep it up! By the way, the somewhat offensive differential/gear oil smell is due to the sulfur content. It's great when you get a face full of it...

    After accidentally spilling a tiny bit of the new stuff on the garage floor I definitely figured that part out! Froggy do you have any videos of how to access the evaporator on a C5? Or would you happen to have a link to a procedure? I’ve had this odor for the entire life of my C5 when I run the AC. I have done everything including cleaning out the fan, spraying many types of foam cleaners in the AC drain to try and clean the evaporator, and the three udders on 1 side and one big udder on the other I cleaned out also. Nothing has gotten rid of this odor. I am almost certain it is the evaporator. I’ve read a ton of forums and spent hours trying to solve this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • @1947froggy

    @1947froggy

    6 жыл бұрын

    Sorry, no, what would you do if you accessed it? I would just clean as much as close as you can get to it, use deodorizer chemicals if necessary. Let me know how it goes. I never had any bad smells. One thing I always do is turn OFF the a/c a couple of miles before I get home. At least it saves the drips on the floor and IMO the residual heat cooks off a/c condensation all thru the system. Not sure if it's true but I never had any a/c smells on any of my vehicles.

  • @TheCgraham18

    @TheCgraham18

    Thanks so much for the quick reply. I would clean the crud (no pun intended) out of it with products but it would be a direct spray versus feeding hose up the drain without really knowing if the evaporator is truly getting cleaned. It’s quite frustrating as access to the drain line is challenging. Thanks again Froggy.

  • @1947froggy

    @1947froggy

    That might help, so you only need access, not removing it & replacing it. You should be able to get a shot at it by pulling the glovebox & maybe a panel or two. :)Let me know how it goes. :)

    For Alexa, Unfortunately it is common for Vettes (my c4 did this when it sat for a few weeks) to leak a little (a few drips) from tranny/diff/engine when they sit not running. It's mostly just annoying, you could replace the leaking seal but I wouldn't bother. If you clean the leak area THOROUGHLY with brake cleaner it will remove the excess/residual fluid & maybe slow the leak down a bit. Also put down some cardboard under the leak. Of course driving it more will lessen the leak. :)

    You really have to have the car LEVEL to do this service. Just like a dealer would have it on his big lift. I actually put a level on my frame when I do this (under door sill) to be exact. Put it up on ramps in front and jack the rear until you are level. Or jack the front & put it on jack stands if you don't have ramps. :)

    Glad to see someone else noticed the Corvette tax. As people say, "if you can afford a Corvette then you can afford to do whatever is the asking price". It's freaking bullcrap. These cars are relatively cheap to fix if you know what you're doing, and they build them so it's practically the easiest thing in the world to fix.
