********** // VIDEO DESCRIPTION // *********
This is likely to be a controversial topic. I know a lot of people swear by cortisone injections. I’ve also seen some of those same people get a cortisone injection for something like shoulder pain, and while the shoulder pain magically disappears…they end up coming to me for numbness in their hands, or migraines, or a cervical spine issue.
The reason I believe a cortisone (or steroid) injection “works” at least temporarily is because included in the shot is an anesthetic. You’re anesthetizing the tissue at the site of the injection (which is usually the site of pain. To anesthetize means “to render senseless.” Your nerves can’t make sense of what’s happening in that part of your body anymore, so you no longer get that pain signal.
Regarding inflammation - this is your body’s natural response to injury or damage. Your body is trying to isolate an area to send fresh blood there. Fresh oxygenated blood is what your body uses to repair tissue at the cellular level. Getting a cortisone injection to reduce inflammation is like pouring water on your fire alarm expecting the fire to get put out.
Besides that, and the real purpose of this video, there’s the question of safety. Are these shots without any risks? Definitely not. That’s not opinion, it’s medical fact.
The Mayo Clinic lists the possible side effects of a cortisone injection as:
Nerve damage
Tendon weakening or rupture
Death of nearby bone
Inflammation
Joint infection
Temporary flare of pain and inflammation in the joint
And more
All I want is for you to know the risks and willingly take those risks. I want you to be informed. Many of my clients come to me after they get one or several cortisone injections and still have pain. At that point, can we be 100% certain their pain isn’t from the cortisone injection itself?
Don’t just take my word for it. Look this up. Talk to your doctor. Ask your doc intelligent questions. And most of all, take 100% responsibility for your body, knowing if you do elect to undergo something like a cortisone injection and you DO experience side effects, that it was your choice to do that.
THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE. This is my research, and this post and accompanying video are for INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.

Had this injection done by my GP. He did it blind. It bloody hurt! But my shoulder was pain free immediately and stayed pain free for 7 months. Then pain came back worse, now I'm going to have a camera put in my shoulder to see what's causing the trouble. They are going to put another injection in at same time if needed

You're welcome! I'm SO glad you're listening to your own wisdom and experiencing the incredible healing powers that you possess naturally. I remember a wonderful email you just sent me, so I know we're aligned in many ways! Have you seen my video on arthritis? I have another one coming out soon on preventing/reversing arthritis too, so stay tuned for that. The short story is - your bones need BLOOD and cell food to regenerate, and fascial restriction plus toxic fascia/lymph can block fresh blood from getting in...and then your bones get irritated and begin to wither. But you can restore blood flow and cell food and clean yourself out and I believe even osteoarthritis is reversible (since this is public I have to state I'm not a doctor and this is just my opinion, NOT medical advice). Thanks for sharing!

great topic! our body is already producing cortisol from the adrenal glands and if you are using these cortisone injections, which is cortisol derived. You might jeopardize the endocrine system and create more and more resistance to it. So the more you going to use injection, the more you are going to need it. the jackpot for the pharmaceutical industry. if you feel tired and get a lot of inflammation, you should check out your adrenal glands and of course, get to the root cause of your inflammation.

I assume your stance is similar on NSAIDs? I personally have never gotten or even wanted a cortisone injection and that's simply because I know it would only either mask an underlying problem or make it worse in some way down the line. I also don't use NSAIDs, although many many years ago I think I did one one occasion use ibuprofen for something a short period of time. These things are quickly prescribed, but I rarely go to the doctor and prefer to look for a solution myself. I hear people go to the doctor and demand quick fixes all the time. I'm new to your channel and the newsletter, but I'm trying to deal with a persistent and worsening pain in my left thumb, a pain that is recently also present in my right thumb, at the point of the IP joint (distal joint in thumb). Symptoms are a burning sensation and shooting pains. Of late some numbness too, which only then (a week or so ago) have led my search for what this is to a nerve issue and I find information on carpal tunnel, but it may not be that. Anyway, the not so funny thing is I've visited four hand and wrist specialists and they said they don't know what it is and can't even make a diagnosis, although maybe it's a tendon, they say, but only with me asking whether it could be a tendon. It does, however, feel like a nerve thing, the more I think about it. Recommendation is rest and some kneading clay, the latter of which made it worse. Great. Hospital pics came out negative, so they merely called it overuse. I do barbell training, but did so years before this problem started too, so that's odd. Anyway, I researched pain science, as one specialist said I may be just too sensitive in that area and focus myself on it, which is true, but there's definitely a reason for it. I'm just putting this out there. Maybe someone has ideas about it. I'm doing stretches for the forearm, mostly extensors, because the flexors are really tight, probably from all that gripping. I've watched one other video of yours in which you showed how to use your bodyweight to massage your own arm, with the other arm that is. Then wriggle the hand, make a fist, and do extensions and the like. Trying to tackle some issues. No needles for me. No pills. The worst thing was or is not knowing exactly what it is and then there's no clear plan possible what to do. I mean, with some issues it's clear. If I were to break a leg, that's an easy answer what to do and not do :) Pain from unknown causes sucks.

I definitely have a strong personal and professional stance on NSAIDS too, as well as opioids. It's a slippery slope talking about these things publicly, but I also think it's critical that more people become aware of their options, and also the many risks associated with many medical routes for pain. Keep researching my blog and channel here, try a few things and if you need 1-1 help I do offer phone and Skype consultations. I can get way more personalized with suggestions that way. For what it's worth I believe every pain has a reason, and that means there's a solution - if you can find the root cause. And yes, that's the challenging part right? Not knowing. Keep digging - you'll find the cause!

@@ElishaCeleste Thank you. And indeed, there is an opioid crisis. It's not talked about as much. I'm sorry to hear this. I wish it were uncommon, but sadly it's not. The western medical model in America is the 3rd leading cause of death, and that doesn't count the millions of people harmed but not dead by this system and its quick fixes. AND - I personally believe it's never too late. I believe the body strives for health every day and will use whatever it is given to achieve that. So even if damage occurs, I believe it can be reversed or at least mitigated (depending on the extent). Using fascia release around the area of injection could move toxicity out, move dead cells out (the necrotic cells of tissue or bone), bring in fresh blood and water and help regenerate the tissue and bone.

There are a lot of safe options for complete relief. I've helped hundreds of people with bulging discs and pinched nerves without ever touching their back. The root issue in most low back pain cases is a pelvic instability or tilt/rotation causing the spine to compress and nerves to be pinched. Harvard has actually debunked bulging discs being a proven correlation to back pain. Millions of people live with herniations and have no pain.

Have you any experience or knowledge of the effect of msm (Methylsulfonylmethane) on the fascia? I suspect it is one of the nutrient requirements for fascia

  • @ElishaCeleste

    @ElishaCeleste

    5 жыл бұрын

It's been my experience that fascia is primarily affected by chemical messengers via emotional stress, trauma and nervous system activation (fight/flight/freeze), in addition to the consistent shapes we put our bodies in (sitting, standing, biking, yoga etc). These processes are largely physiological, and so the solution has to be physiological as well. The #1 ingredient fascia needs to be healthy (hydrated) is fresh BLOOD, which has the nutrients needed to create the cellular food every cell in the body needs to repair itself. Fascia is made mostly of water, so drinking water is important. But it's actually the sticky collagen component that makes it what it is, and this is built by bringing in fresh blood and water and flushing toxic fluid out of the system. While supplements can be beneficial, the real magic is in physically changing the fascia and creating the right environment so the ingredients can get in. Does that make sense? Thanks for the question!

  • @andrewwalker1377

@@ElishaCeleste Yes thanks. All that makes sense. I had developed painful spots in the shoulder muscles/fascia. I took 3grms of msm powder in the morning and by the next morning the saw spots had all but disappeared. Our blood is only as good as the nutrients it has been able to absorb so I figure the msm found its way into the blood and helped lubricate the fascia. Having said that I have plenty of areas that I believe will benefit from some functional therapy via myofascial release, which I am only just starting to understand as a real possibility. So thanks for the education you are providing
