    Excellent news on the lack of 80 Plus branding. That certification program was such a scam.

    Would have been nice if these were bumped back up to 10 year warranties, but i guess these SFX ones get abused quite a lot.

    I won't support anymore super long warranties, because in the end hurt both consumers and the industry. Starting from today I won't mention warranty period in my pros or cons, unless it is too short (say 1 year).

    what a time to see a vendor the size of Corsair opting to drop 80+ entirely and just do Cybenetics. quite the statement of how Corsairs' PSU division feels about the two certifications.

    Very nice video as always, appreciate your work! I wanted to go for SF850L because of better cooling and it's also fitting, but why is the sfx-l so loud, even tough it has the 120mm fan? Is it just the fan curve the went with, are the components not able to run so hot because of worse design, or did they just do big compromises and went with a too high continous operation temperature on the SF850 and the SF850L is the way better choise in terms of durability? Or just bad design on the SF850L?

    @HardwareBusters I just think about upgrading to a Super Flower Leadex VII PRO 80 PLUS Platinum 850 Watt. Would be the Corsair SF850 a better choice (prize of the Super Flower would be 174 EUR) ?

  • @HardwareBusters

    There is no comparison between ATX and SFX units. ATX ones have the advantage, so unless you really need an SFX PSU, go with the Leadex

    -12V and -5V is a legacy baby-AT RS232 and EGA (Enhanced Graphics Adapter) things, Agreed, no need for it in "ATX v3.whatever" today, hell what motherboard today has 8-bit ISA slots that require them rails, they all 5V USB/I2C/ARGB interfaces now, lol. Ironicly I need more 5V amps for a few of my "true Full tower" computers than what modern PSUs deliver, yet I also get why some form factors should just ditch that rail from the PSU (esp if it's only for a USB mouse and KB). it comes down to the use case to be fair. PSU makers don't cater to the majority that just wants a low-watt twitter/facebook/youtube box, they cater to the most demanding use for the form factor, and with people trying to cram 5090ti-GAMING(tm)-xXxTremeXxX cinderblock GPUs with dual-socket Epycs into a shoe-box-sized case, that's what PSU makers cater to (some sarcasm), lol.

    The -12VDC is used for COMM Ports if your MB has them. My B550 MB bought this year still has one. Maybe the MB produces it's own -12VDC if it has this port but to say in doesn't exist anymore is questionable.

    with such silly high wattage in such a small form factor, I sort of get dropping 80+. with GPUs and CPUs blowing well past 300 watts, what's the point in pretending to be environmentally friendly when we all wasting power on whatever mega-corps running in the background of webpage code to gather our marketable personal data while keeping our computers cranking out extra heat for our struggling AC units to deal with in the summer, lol. That and SFX isn't exactly a large form factor for massive heat sinks and PFC stuff, if it was a 250-watt PSU or lower-watt, sure, do the 80+ stuff, not 600+ watt space heaters, lol.

  • @NinjaQuick

    Eh, Cybenetic's tests include efficiency. In fact, they are much stricter than 80plus' standards and better reflect the actual efficiency - so you can get an 80plus titanium which can't get cybenetics titanium while a cybenetics titanium will easily obtain 80plus titanium.

  • @Zarcondeegrissom

    @Zarcondeegrissom

    @@NinjaQuick and that is all good, as I am also far more interested in the voltage regulation of my power suppliers than some 'green' energy-star efficacy sticker anyway. You are correct that 80+ only tests the efficiency and nothing else, it was also marked as a save the planet reduce your individual carbon footprint thing, and thinking back to 2k when graphics cards consumed maybe fifteen watts vs them melting six-hundred-watt plugs today, not to say CPUs going from less than 40 watts to also over 300 watts, being "energy efficient" was all for nothing, lol. All of the carbon footprint calculations don't give a hoot what your computer's productivity is, you are a single person, and so am I, and it all boils down to how much junk is put into the environment producing the watts that we as individuals are consuming, that's all there is to that 'green' stuff, and it's silly to say I can consume more power than someone else just because the power converter is more efficient at consuming more power, lol. And that's all 80+ was, an excuse to pretend to be green while being more glutanus.

    @@Zarcondeegrissom you are the biggest yapper to ever exist. Not trying to be mean, but you are completely wrong in your first comment where you believe that this PSU doesn't have a 80+ rating because it is unefficient. 80+ is a very old standard that isn't up to par, therefore Cybenetics have essentially replaced it and it is much better. But you go on rambling about climate, lol. Also not everyone buys a more efficient PSU for the climate, many buy it because it is a premium product, often quieter and draws a little less electricity.
