I live in a small place in Kentucky that was forced to unincorporate a few years ago. There was a council who had many things lined up for this little forgotten town. They were going to have to raise taxes like 6 cents a $1000 and we had a lady that had grants lined up for us. A few people maybe 5-6 didn’t like this and hired a lawyer and put a stop to any growth. The council disbanded and now our town is a total dump. Burned out house, abandoned houses. The county does nothing. We have lost our street lights, if you want one you pay for it, no dog catcher, no code enforcement and the sheriff’s office only comes down once in a blue moon to patrol unless they are called. We are on our own. We do have a post office but it’s only open 22 hours a week and we have a Dollar General. I personally think unincorporating is a big mistake.

Definitely think ottercreek would be better incorporated than not , a town without a council just doesn't feel right or hopeful either

Thank you Jeremy and George. I agree 100%. I live in a small unincorporated town. We do have a water tower tank that the water comes from the larger corporated town. We pay county taxes, water is still paid to our small town office locally.. We have a volunteer community based fire department. The county has even built an EMS station base next to our fire department. We do have a elementary, middle and high school in our community. We do have around 1,200 people living here.

I love what you have done for the residents of otter creek, you have made a lot of people start helping the community, that is a much appreciated deed

I live in an unincorporated area of Naples Florida. The actual city of Naples is very small. Most of what people know as Naples is unincorporated and the county of Collier takes care of everything. If you didn't know we were unincorporated, you wouldn't know! Everything works, everything is fine. Taxes are low (in comparison to my town in New England). My Florida taxes go to Collier county. Simple.

Wow, those tax exemptions! I have homesteading but here, in South Carolina, you have to be a certain age and property has to be maintained. It's crazy.

Thank you for clarifying your stance and responsibilities concerning Otter Creek clean-up. I don't understand how people think you should donate supplies and money and time to others because you have money. I thank you for bringing to light the corruption and letting us all watch the unfolding of events. That in and of itself is worth more to those citizens. These "outside" people don't understand the exorbitant amount of money you have spent bringing this to light and trying to solve the problems in the Town Hall and in the eviction of your neighbors John and Lienette. If the citizens don't stand up for themselves, you are fighting a losing battle.

Why does everyone expect you and George to do everything for them?? Can they not take care of themselves?? My mind boggles at how people not just where you are but here where I live too are just unwilling to do anything for their own good.

Thank you for some very good explanations . I surely hope those watching this can now understand that Otter Creek is just nothing more than a very tiny community that has been robbed of mostly everything by their corrupt neighbors/town council.

I do miss your coin pusher and storage units, and it was so good to see Christian and Patience again! Continued prayers for all and that those Otter Creek Blues will be soon allleviated. I can understand why the people who are on fixed incomes, junking their property to evade tax bills do that. Sadly there's a fiscal responsibility for everyone, so services can utilize the money to improve the quality of life for everybody...God bless.

There is laws and ordinances against it but they have not put anyone to enforce them, sadly.

He’s never here to run the State, because he’s out running around the country trying to sell his book or running for the presidency.

Palm Coast was so beautiful, and we had the best neighbors. We moved there because my husband's brother was very sick. After he passed we moved back to Texas but during our time there we absolutely loved it! The beach was amazing! The neighborhood was immaculate and our neighbors were friendly and so cool! Please don't let one corrupt town council scare you away from this beautiful state! ❤

Don’t forget you did your duty for the town. You oiled the door to town hall to stop the squeak.

The only time my ex and I owned a home, the neighbors near us were mad at how much we bought the home for because it raises the value in their homes and causes them to pay more taxes. You'd think they'd be happy about it because if the time comes when they want to sell their home, they'd get more for it. You can't please everyone all the time I guess.

🇦🇺In Queensland Australia you get speeding fines when you are 2 km’s over the speed limit. The tickets come with demerit points from your license. If you speed in the school holidays or public holidays the fines double and demerit points double. You get 12 points with your license.

Also if you use up those 12 points within 3 years you have effectively lost your licence too.

In the states if your speed is read by airplane they will give you a ticket for 1 mile per hour over but if its by a vehicle or camera they allow you to up to 5. although officers always have discretion until its over 25 milers per hour over. they have to give you a ticket but they can choose to take you to jail or not. Id rather have a system where everyone is punished equally.

I don’t live in a community like Otter Creek but if someone came to my town and opened our eyes to all the crap the mayor and town hall was doing. There are a lot of ways, especially in depressed markets. The previous owner may be carrying the note so no bank is involved. The property may also have a muddy title which would hamper a normal sale, so you just pay the registered title holder a little bit of money for a quit claim deed and title gets registered in your name, however ownership is still uncertain (muddy).

I work for an NPO here in Japan. I posted a flier about an event coming up and people were wondering if the price was wrong. Basically a 1 night stay for kids at a camp for $10. Other events we charge $150 or more for the event.

i hope you will be able to get the water fixed so that you will be able to drink it. I am sure that the people of Otter Creek are thankful that you brought all this corruption to light. Just think of all the money you are saving them just in town clerk pay. Every state is different. Jeremy thank you for educating those whom dont have the knowledge of a different state laws. You are cleaning up Otter creek , the corruption is the biggest clean up you're accomplishing as we speak to say the least with your own money. Youre saving that town from bankruptcies.

A small town here in Georgia set fines in their town ordinances related to property appearance and safety. They had 2 people who wrote up people for violation and once there was a violation written then once the fine was upheld by court then the 2 people were paid out of the fines given by the court.

It goes to the prosecutor and he/she makes the decision whether to proceed or not. If charges are filed it then goes to court.

Look at the Florida Save Our Homes Assessment Limitation. It prevents the assessment from increasing more than 3 percent or the percent change in the Consumer Price Index, whichever is less. Even if the values of their property increase (due to cleaning it up) there are limits as to how quickly it will go up.

I live in Paradise NV. It is an unincorporated town in Clark County. This is also where the famous Las Vegas Strip is located. Back when the Strip was built, the casino owners did not want to pay the Las Vegas city taxes. We have several post offices, police stations, fire stations, etc. We do have a town advisory board, but Clark County provides everything. Even UNLV is in Paradise.
