Corrupt Food Industry | Hidden Work | Dangerous additives | Documentary

Corrupt Food Industry - How come ham is pink? Why do we believe that it is good for our children? Why are product labels beyond understanding? Industrial giants are able to stall and orientate policy decisions that directly affect public health.
Corrupt Food Industry (2016)
Director: Guillaume Coudray, Sandrine Rigaud
Writers: Guillaume Coudray, Sandrine Rigaud
Genre: Documentary
Country: France
Language: English
Also Known As: Cash Investigation: The Meat Lobby: Big Business Against Health?
Release Date: December 1, 2016 (France)
Filming Location: Paris, France
Synopsis:
In 2015, the WHO listed one of the additives in processed meats as carcinogenic. That same additive was nearly banned in America in the 1970s - until lobbying from the meat industry discredited the scientists. We reveal how, to impede or halt regulations on certain additives, lobbyists have been working in the shadows for decades.
At the heart of this strategy are the scientists who collaborate, who receive generous compensation for studies that promote meat consumption. In conjunction with this, those whose work finds health risks associated with meat are ‘shot down’.
From Brittany to Denmark, through California and Wisconsin, director Sandrine Rigaud conducted a year-long investigation on the tactics of the meat industry.
Reviews:
"This documentary on its own provides a lot of good information related to the declining health of our society and also info about the little-known, secretive mechanisms, industry influencers and disnformation propagators of the meat industry. A must watch for those interested in health. This, along with some other great health documentaries on Prime, illuminate a disturbing picture of declining American health and provide good suggestions for a way forward and fixing it all. Five stars."

MSG doesn’t cause health problems. This is a common misconception. MSG is naturally occurring flavour (umami) found in a lot of foods like tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese, fish, etc. that is why those foods are yummy! MSG was isolated from natural foods by a Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda in 1908 who wanted to know why seaweed was so tasty and used in soup bases. Hence why it is used in a lot of Asian cooking to this day. However MSG was demonized by western media and erroneously attributed to cause people to feel unwell after eating Chinese food. The truth is that Chinese food is very salty and when you have a meal high in salt you will feel thirsty, maybe headachey and tired. This is not the fault of MSG which you can easily extract from natural foods.

Of all the additives, preservatives, and colourants my kids have reacted to over the years, these scare me the most. I have no doubt they cross the blood-brain barrier and interfere with synapses at nerve conduction level. I only need to watch my little one after a piece of salami at a birthday party. I’m in Australia and it’s hard to source product alternatives here. But we follow everything the US does as far as food goes. The science will come, and the asshat lobbyists will have to step aside. But in the meantime, as consumers we just need to choose differently. Just don’t buy the product. Learn the numbers and avoid them.

Lobbying is a kind of cancer: there’s two ways to get rid it. One is to forbid it and root it out completely, the other way is to let it grow until the system dies and lobbying with it.

I have had the misfortune to try to buy food in the USA. It is so difficult to get real food, unadulterated food or food that is not fraudulently represented. My solution is to avoid buying any manufactured food there. It is HORRIBLE stuff. For example sourdough bread is simply white bread laced with acetic acid or similar. Brown sugar is white sugar coated with molasses. Meat full of salt and pumped up with water as well as being over fat. There are so many different ways that corporates are NOT producing the standard of living that we should be able to expect.

Good investigative journalism. Got to love it! A lot was spent on this video to bring the facts to the public. This hasn't happened, for the most part, since the 1970s when investigative journalism was considered a "loss leader" by the networks, but has since been converted into a profit-making machine where ratings determine the survival of a show or series. Today, profit is the motive for survival--truth should it exists--is merely a carrot to make a lie seem real. BRAVO to the producers of this documentary!

So are there some better changes in the American or European meat industry? 😅🤔😏 At that time, during this investigation, Vytenis Andriukaitis was my country’s Minister of health, later European commissioner 😳🫣 This guy had to take the responsibility for other clerks decisions. Today when I am at a mall/shop for me it is difficult to find healthy products. Almost everything is ultra-processed 🫣😕 Luckily my mother grows vegetables and hens by own natural way and trees of apple, pears and cherries grows in the garden. However, it is not enough to eat very healthy. While in my childhood I was eating really healthier. My family was growing own pigs, cows, hens and doing home cooking. And I remember that I was sick very rarely. So nutrition is the main reason why plenty of people are diagnosed with cancer 😔

Thats a huge leap to have someone on a toxic level of processed meats, collect samples, manipulate those samples to show a negative outcome and then take the leap to say this is causing a huge number of deaths. Its key to remember the whole premise was on a non standard (extremely high) level of processed meats that no normal person would eat, and then share this extreme example was somehow the basis for any claims against a normal population. ALL, please don't forget this reporter and all news agencies need "headline" stories to remain in business. If they ran stories like, "eat things in moderation, eat a balanced diet" who would read that story and then how are they staying in business. Always question the motive of both sides, when there is something to gain, the truth gets blurred.

Sure it’s common sense not to have processed meat daily. It’s not as simple to avoid mass produced food which has many of the same problems as processed meat (harmful chemicals, synthetic and artificial flavors, excessive sodium, sugar, fat). Pretty much everything from beverages to crackers, pastas/breads, cheese, condiments, grains, yogurts are all processed. Healthy choices are limited. As consumers were being poisoned with crappy additives because who actually has time to make their own ingredients for a meal?

What you are going to find out is that here in America, it's virtually impossible to find pure meat that hasn't been introduced to hormones or some kind of additives and/or preservatives. To even be able to sell or distribute meat here you have to be registered and licensed by the FDA. They require you to meet certain mandates and guidelines, which means you need to introduce certain hormones and preservatives into your livestock be it by injection or diet to make the meat "safe for consumption and distribution to the masses." 😂 So virtually any piece of meat you stumble upon at your grocer, even farmer's market will be pumped full of the garbage. Farmers who don't adhere to this can be shutdown almost immediately. There was a famous case in the 90's of a farmer out in Utah. He was a Mormon, and grew and cultivated his own food. His local church would host farmer's markets and it was there where an undercover FDA agent purchased some meat from him. Within a short window of time, the FDA raided and ceased his property. A long legal battle ensued, and he eventually won (after being financially ruined by court and attorney fees), thanks to a loophole in the law regarding food cultivation and religion. However, immediately after that case, the legislators swooped in and amended the law to prevent others from exploiting that loophole again. There have been numerous horror stories of farmers and small local growers who dodge the FDA, only to get raided and shutdown, and their property confiscated. In many cases, they don't get the property back. It's all for you're 🫵🏼safety ya know 🙄
