Coroner's riffs are harder than most thrash metal solos

I realize this isn't a bass video but Ron Royce has to be the most underrated metal bassist ever. He plays those same riffs note for note with bass AND sings at the same time!

As an assiduous listener to prog metal, avant metal, prog rock, extreme metal, and eventually some math core and the likes, Coroner never fails to overwhelm me. Their riffs and rhythm is ridiculously technical to the point I have a hard time digesting it right away. It somehow manages to sound even more unhinged and complex than Atheist or Messhugah.

@@profanepropane Well, it was definitely an overstatement, in hindsight. There are moments on Mental Vortex where Coroner is rhythmically very dense and jagged, confusing even, but they're not really as unhinged as Messhugah at all. However, I still believe Coroner has some of the most wickedly difficult riffs I've seen - seriously, look at a top 10 hardest Coroner riffs, shit like Arc-Lite makes me blush in awe

@@profanepropane Oh, it's been a while since I've last listened to Mental Vortex. Couldn't pinpoint any specific moments. Maybe I don't even hold the same opinion anymore haha. But in my mind, Mental Vortex is similarly dense to Messhugah's Contradictions Collapse (which I find to be harder to listen to than their actual avant-metal/djenty stuff because of the constant odd time signatures).

Well done! Coroner fan since 1988. Saw them with Kreator in Chicago, 1989. Still trying to catch them again now.

I remember seeing the Masked Jackal video for the first time. I know where, I know who was in the room, etc. Watchin in disbelief how Ron plays that downward run. I was listening to Metallica and Helloween at that time so wasn't too keen on thrash but Coroner was bigger than thrash. It was that case when genre is not important and you listen to the music because it's just objectively good and quality stuff.

Wow. Amazing. I've been obsessed with Coroner for the past three years and it is very sad how overlooked and underrated they are even in KZread. IMO their riffs are among the most difficult to play in the whole Metal genre. BTW: How come you didn't include that whole section after the solo from Read My Scars?

@@thedjentleman1662 yes, I agree with you on this! I listen to them since their first album and I have always appreciated them, their first 4 albums in particular. Recently I have also made a bass cover of one of their songs (Masked Jackal), and so I realized even more how good they are! I don't think I will try another one... 😬

INCREDIBLE renditions pal! Tommy Vetterli´s riffs are probably more difficult than his solos LOL!! What he did on Coroner´s discography it´s an absolute masterpiece. Sooo involved in his composition & virtuosism that devoured easily, MOST of thrash guitarists from the 80's/90's era. You should pick some of Necrophagist. What a fabulous guitar work from those guys!(sadly dissapeared.)

I realize that Grin is far from their most technical album, but the arpeggio run in the middle of Internal Conflicts could have gotten at least a nod here.

This is great but I'm surprised Mistress Of Deception didn't find a place on this list.

the only Coroner song that i can play is No Need to Be Human, lol, i can play a whole Cannibal Corpse, Death, Suffocation or Megadeth album but i struggle with Vertelleti things
