Coronation Street-19th of November 1969.

We get a brief bit of what will be the new title sequence at the start here.Hopefully by the end of the month they will have the full version up.Ray Langton's diagnosis looks very bleak at this stage.Maybe even 2 years in a wheelchair.I see Janet Lees Price is a Nurse in this one.Paul Darrow and Janet were married for years.I don't know were they together yet when they both were on the Street episodes in late 1969.Janet is a good actress, having seen her in various stuff last year or so.Hope you enjoy this anyway.

As others have said and I agree with them , this was when it was worth watching , not now. Classic episode and one of my faves.

The mid 80's was the last of Corrie at it's best, imo.

'He wasn't so free with his miracles'. Brilliant Ena line, revealing, I think, some doubt beneath her apparent religious certainty. Thank you again!

This must have been the first episode shown in colour. I believe BBC1 and ITV both started colour transmissions on 15th of November 1969. It has great historical value. Such a good copy too.

Well, I'm up-to-date now as far as the first of the colour episodes go.😃Looking forward to the next one quite a bit - thank you for uploading them!! In the early 80s we rented a VHS tape from the shop that had selected episodes... including the coach crash which was all still totally in b/w. Then the next one is where we have a mixture of colour vt in the hospital and b/w location film... as I'm sure many devotees know! So I begun to watch a few eps previously not long ago, after just watching fairly random sixties ones over the last however many months and was hoping to watch the ones just prior to January 1970, when I was born. Definitely well on the way now lol. Mum and dad didn't have a colour set until 1972 they told me, so I'm able to see what they were unable to at the time... mum would never miss an episode from as soon as it started and would find it hilarious I'm watching these, I'm sure - I used to watch soaps the same as some of my mates, until around the late 90s. What goes around, as they say... 🙃

That is interesting to me some of the late 1969 editions were on a VHS tape in the early 80's .I heard of a release from 1982 and assume that's it.Didn't know what editions were on it,or how many.It had linking material recorded in the Rover's with Len and Elsie I believe.Probably along the lines of remember when such and such happened. Then go into a episode.First VHS releases I bought of it was in the mid 90's.4 editions from each year on a videotape.Doesn't sound like much now but at the time they were great.

@@SteveHarris-nv9iy I must have got something confused there, sorry. The Coronation Street Fandom page describes the video that you mention (and I was thinking about) but it is only episodes from 1960 to 1964. So I saw that somewhere else in this case... Yes, the chances of seeing repeats of programmes such as this were almost zero back then... you had Channel 4/S4C for things from The Munsters to The Prisoner which had me glued to the set even more lol but they weren't ongoing 'serials' as we would have more likely called them at the time. But around new year's, they would show some old b/w comedies etc (I remember first seeing an episode of George & The Dragon starring Sid James and Peggy Mount for example) as a sort of one-off nostalgia fest. Could possibly be it was something like that I saw the coach crash episode on. Or, as I recall whenever there was anything like the 20th, 30th etc etc anniversary, they would show a selected vintage episode around that week. Would have been late in the evening so after News At Ten. And of course the first episode has been repeated many a time now. I wouldn't mind a copy of that 1982 VHS, just for old time's sake... would be rare as anything today I would think.. just looked on eBay and I didn't find a thing that looked even likely to be it. 👍

I think one of the episodes on the 1982 video was from 1962.When Elsie and Bill Gregory were getting serious. In the end she left the Street to live with him very early 1984.So that storyline went full circle in the end.

@@SteveHarris-nv9iy I seem to recall seeing that 1962 episode but it's so long ago that I saw the VHS and I had only just reached my teenage years at that point... in my mid fifties now! :) And it looks like you are spot-on there. This is from the website/page I mentioned above. I forgot to add the title in my last reply... "The Magic of Coronation Street" On 16th November 1982, Granada released a VHS video entitled The Magic of Coronation Street - Distant Memories 1960-1964. Running at 172 minutes, it featured six episodes of the programme, along with specially-filmed sequences featuring Annie Walker, Len Fairclough and Elsie Tanner. In 1985, The Magic Of Coronation Street was reissued as two separate videos, each featuring three episodes, by Vestron Video International under the "Granada Video" imprint. The episodes on the tapes are: Episode 1 (9th December 1960) - the programme's first episode. Episode 16 (1st February 1961) - the residents are evacuated to the Mission following a gas leak. Episode 108 (25th December 1961) - Christmas Day on the street Episode 165 (11th July 1962) - Elsie Tanner loses Bill Gregory and Ken and Val become engaged. Episode 317 (25th December 1963) - Dennis Tanner pulls a This Is Your Life surprise on Annie Walker Episode 421 (23rd December 1964) - the residents put on pantomime for local children. I might have to go for the reissues IF they are easier to find (likely) and could be cheaper too. I have a feeling I will have to be very patient though!

I read Paul Darrow and Janet Lees-Price met while working on "Emergency Ward 10" together. He played a doctor. She played a nurse. Typecasting alive and well in Corrie in 1969. You can tell Neville Buswell is relishing his storyline, grim though it is. He didn't do 3 years at RADA to do jack-the-lad acting for years. Having seen a few episodes through the years until 1977, I don't think he ever gave a better performance than these at the end of 1969. If I was ever in Ray Langton's position, I'd want a doctor played by John Bailey - quiet, empathetic and honest (typecasting again - see Bailey in "The Evil Of The Daleks" and "The Horns Of Nimon"). The Corrie boom-mic makes it's latest appearance at 19:17 . It should have its own IMDb credit.
