Coronaspection - Interview with Seyyed Hossein Nasr

SUMMARY - TABLE OF CONTENTS - RELEVANT LINKS
Prof. Seyyed Hossein Nasr is Muslim theologian, leader of a Sufi community and one of the most prominent Islamic scholars worldwide, who teaches at George Washington University. He brings a classical Muslim philosophical and mystical perspective to the realities created by Corona. Tragedies are opportunities for regaining perspective and therefore as a form of grace. Fear of God leads us to run back to God. Fear can be positive by returning us to the abiding reality. Corona places us before the limits of our knowledge and invites us to reexamine how we have over-trusted science and technology. Separation from others forces us to a spiritual retreat. We are born alone and we die alone. Going into retreat is a practice of death, to be alone with God. Having been nurtured by divine presence equips you to better serve society. Prof. Nasr walks us through an exercise of how to be with oneself. Delving into the depth of oneself, we discover the inner being of the other is nothing other than ourselves.

When he was 23, and I was 17, I met Seyyed Hossein Nasr in a classroom, at Harvard University, 1956. With less than a sentence from him, I believed in God; my life was changed forever; I became a Muslim, and followed I'm in becoming a disciple of HIS master, Frithjof Schuon. Now I'm 81 and he must be 87. I see a treasure chest, full of knowledge AND wisdom. He gave me a Real Life, an entry into Truth: therefore, I would forgive absolutely anything, and be grateful forever. It is still ESSENTIAL for all those who admire him, as do I, to realize that he is one of the two main successors of Frithjof Schuon; and he is he only disciple of HIS master, whose actual life was affected by his master. This is exceedingly delicate; but it is necessary to understand Frithjof Schuon and the relationship between the two men, to situate the great Dr. Nasr correctly. Moereover, everyone seeking Truth, needs to understand a spiritual mystery which is in the life and doctrines of Frithjof Schuon. To situate his two main successors, Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Martin Lings (as well as all others) everyone should read at least the home page on this site: frithjofschuon.wordpress.com

Thank you for this comment! I live in Slovakia and I thank God I was blessed by His Mercy in the form of getting to know Perennialist school by the books, they had written. Unfortunately i was not lucky (I was born in 1977) to meet any of the masters and sages you have mentioned personally. And if I have to thank internet for just one thing it is this opportunity to meet them in their lectures recorded on youtube channel. I would love to meet them and once I tried to meet Mr. Nasr in Washington but due to some circumstances it was not realized, but at least I am in the touch with other of his followers. Some years ago I started to translate books of F. Schuon, but it is so hard to publish them here. If God wishes one day they will be published (Inshallah) and their saving wisdom will find its readers even here in my small country. Thank you for comment again, it is very kind to meet people of this kind. Milan

@@milanspak9122 I won't read that. Michael Fitzgerald in a first prize liar. Until very recently, I have nicely veiled him - calling him "Sidi Xyz" or leaving him nameless. Why? Because he's alive, has a family and is a very old friend. He's also so affable, realistic and likeable sometimes that I keep hoping he will change. He handled the court case against Frithjof Schuon. He had us all lie, under oath, condu...oh it's endless. He has an air of greased sincerity about him too. He's the lying lawyer who "took care" of anyone who was thought to be a critic of Frithjof Schuon. I try to have Islamic good manners, aadaab, with everyone; but he has gone too far. When he was younger, he was a VERY fine person; but like a few others I've known in a long lifetime - he changed! My book is full of "character studies;" but I pray that he may reverse his course!

Lying was one of the terrible things around Frithjof Schuon. When I first arrived in Switzerland, in 1966, Catherine Schuon told me somethings to introduce "the Shaykh" to me. One thing she said was that he had no respect for Truth on this plane of daily life, and would lie if it weren't for government rules or ways one would get caught. She explained the reasons which sounded perfectly reasonable at the time. (Esoteric Tariqah in a hostile modern environment). She sounded perfectly reasonable, profound and intelligent! I thought no more about it, until there were so many lies around that the society was "sick." I had no idea what Allah decreed, what the Sunnah was. What "Muhammadian" meant. This is all in my book, and is part of a grand drama...very complicated and full of lies mixed with beauty. The devil got loose in some un-islamic ideas! Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani wrote about exactly what could and did happen if someone on the spiritual path left the decrees of Allah, Who said, "I decree what pleased Me!" Frithjof Schuon made his own decrees; and astaghfiru Llaah, it took me decades to know the difference!
