vince33x. I think it's a sad thing that you missed what Dr. West said in the time allotted and what he continues to do and say. You can scream your derision from the roof-tops. Who cares? Only you, really. How lonely. I see that you've been "thunderstruck" by the ugly solipsism that you seem to think is so fashionable. I have no religious convictions myself and I'd agree that I don't find Dr. West the "most amazing intellectual in America today". I daresay that he'd agree. That said, I'm inspired by Dr. West's integrity, kindness, and continuing pursuit of scholarship. I think that I can say with certainty that he can speak intelligently on more subjects than you. I'd happily spend my time conversing with him. I wouldn't spend that time listening to your snotty-nosed, sneering bullshit for an hour. I value my time, even if you don't. Obviously, that angers you. Too bad.

I happen to KNOW Cornel West and to have read some of his books. I had discussions debates with him going all the way back to the 1980s when I was a student. West is NOT a "devoted Marxist," but does believe that Marx (like other philosophers) has significant insights as well as weak spots in his interpretation of the social world. Cornel West actually leans more toward Pragmatism and even Christian existentialism than to Marxism. I know this not only from taking with him, but also from reading some of his books and articles--which I am sure you have not done. (i've also written critical review essays on West which have been published). Furthermore, anyone who thinks Marxism and Nazism is the same shows profound ignorance both of history and of the major ideas influencing the world in the past 100--200 years. You view of things is so myopic and ignorant that it boggles the mind. I more informed than you are today when I was in high school.

When Western Man landed on the West Coast of Africa in the 15th Century, they encountered a people who had NOT YET INVENTED the WHEEL! Meanwhile, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was about 600 years old! I really believe Blacks HATE Whites because of the accomplishments of Western Man - INCLUDING THE ENDING OF THE WORLDWIDE SLAVE TRADE! Blacks=Ingrates.

I am hopeful Dr. West takes more action towards those in power in the 'Academy' Ivy League that has and continues producing those very people who are guiding American towards more crony capitalism. The 'Empire' he speaks of is orchestrated, managed, and sponsored by Ivy League leaders. Nonetheless, Dr. West, keep on keeping on.

Cornel's memories of writers and artists make me feel despair. I read and heard many of them years ago - Trilling, Bloom, Riesman, Frye, Erdman, Wilson, James Baldwin, Ella, Aretha, Malcolm et alia - and wonder if they've made any difference at all, then or now. The world seems ever more reactionary, ignorant, glib, heartless. I'm only thankful Cornel remembers them and does his best to pass their riches on to us and to the young. Do they read them, dig them, love them the way he does? I can only hope so. He's still giving me new names and stories to look up, look up to, to inspire me and to treasure. Love from London UK.

The way he’s able to encapsulate so much into the simplest of sentences. Glad to be alive at the same time as this absolute chad of a man. I used to wonder how people stayed awake in church, I realize now it was because the message wasn’t resonating with me, I could listen to Dr. West talk for days on end.

Name dropping is when you mention someone to gain status. West is mentioning people to support his arguments. All academics do it. It's called quoting/referencing.

Bethany Hunt A list of names is not quoting/referencing. Not saying he's wrong. Just saying that listing people you know without quoting them or using them to support your argument somehow is name dropping.

The psalmist said that "mercy and truth are met together, and righteousness and peace have kissed each other" (Psalm 85:10). Integrity cannot exist apart from the truth. We need no other metric by which to judge our current social and political discourse in America. Given our fascination with the tangible rather than intangible things in life, we've have loss sight the importance of the truth. Dr. West, thank you for the reminder.

Professor West, your ability to inspire and literally demand revolution in these Amerikkkas goes not unnoticed and is appreciated for your courage. Please continue to impact the presence of the oligarchy for they will fight until death for their privilege. I wondered, have you visited Kemet to witness for yourself the writings on the wall when it comes to the traditions that colonialism tore us away from our truth? Please listen to young kings such as Jamaar Milton and Jabari Osage. They have put the work in. Thank you, sir.
