Saw your video about corneal tattooing,I was so excited because I would like to get this procedure done, because I have corneal scar from previou surgery. Call your office done only to find out that you don't actually perform the procedure. Why I post a video like that if you don't do the procedure. it is very misleading.

Hi, can corneal tattooing be done to eye with keyhole scarring from trauma. Keyhole is to 9 o'clock position. Had intraocular lenses implanted. No improvement in vision.

The tattoo ink is placed in the corneal stroma, the large middle layer of the cornea. Thanks for the question!

+Aafiya Kauser I would expect a corneal scar to stay about the same size over time as a child grows. The cornea does not grow a lot after birth. It is possible for a corneal scar to affect vision, especially if it is in the center. Would be a good idea to check with his eye doctor to make sure that he does not need any further treatment for the scarring. Especially when children are younger, there is a risk for developing a lazy eye when the two eyes do not see equally. Thanks for the questions.

Can this procedure be done on someone who has had a severe corneal ulcer with a big scar left behind? If not, what alternatives do I have for removing the scar. My scar from the ulcer has caused the cornea to be 80% thinned out. Please give me an answer, it would be greatly appreciated.

Lachelle Wicksz if the cornea has been 80% thinned from an ulcer, there may not be enough room to perform corneal tattooing safely. When my patients are in this situation, I may consider a cosmetic contact lens to improve the appearance of the eye to match the other eye.

Hello. I had an iridotomy done about 8 months ago for narrow angles. After doing my right eye ( I haven't done my left) at the 11 o'clock position, I now see a VERY annoying glare in certain lighting conditions. This is so unbelievably frustrating for me. How risky is the corneal tattoo? I am so scared of going into another eye procedure than can possibly make a bad situation worse. I live in South Florida and it is almost impossible to find a doctor that does corneal tattooing. The procedure seems to be so uncommon that it gives me a lot of hesitation of even exploring the possibility going through with it. I have been very depressed about this glare ever since the procedure. Any feedback would be so appreciated. Thank you!!!!!!

Tamara Stein The procedure is relatively safe with the primary risks of infection or inflammation in the area of the tattoo. It is a specialized procedure and I have heard that it can be difficult to find a corneal specialist to perform it. Tattooing has been shown to be effective in improving glare from an iridotomy. Thanks for the questions!

WHATS THE PRICE OF THE SURGERY ( FOR COSMETIC REASONS) ?

Sandro Menez, I would guess that the procedure would be less than $1000 if paying out of pocket. However, this often is considered medically necessary and not cosmetic, so it can be covered by insurance.
