Corky's Tragic Story and the Campaign to Take Her Home

Corky and Lolita have been in captivity for over half a century. Lolita is from the Puget Sound Southern Resident orca population, which was decimated by captures in the sixties and seventies. They are now listed as critically endangered. Her mother, Ocean Sun, is estimated to be between eighty and ninety years old. They will probably never be reunited. Corky is a Northern Resident and member of the A-23 pod. Her sister, brother, niece and grand-nephews can still be seen roaming the coastal waters of British Columbia. What different lives they must lead.

You said it yourself they probably would have all died because the resident Vancouver pod are dying because of lack of food, human encroachment on their territory and pollution. Stop the lying. Their story is tragic don't make up false info to attempt to cause ire.

Corky, is a female captive killer whale from the A5 Pod. Her mother, designated A23, nicknamed "Stripe", died in 2000.. How's that for your honesty. just google Corky's mother. Corky more than likely way outlived her own mother and she is healthy but you want to murder her by releasing a senior citizen into the wild. Immoral

Money. It’s all about the bottom dollar for SeaWorld. CEOs don’t want to let go of their moneymakers. SeaWorld spent millions on those orca exhibits. According to Blackfish, SeaWorld trainers “jerked off” male orcas, i.e. Tilikum, and sold their sperm for millions (?). Let that sink in. SeaWorld disgusts me. 😡

Seaworld is garbage filled with rude ass owners and rude staff members. They all need to grow up and let this whale go back to her home waters this minute. It won’t surprise me if someone sneaks into the park one day and takes her out of that tank without their permission and take her to the wild without seaworld owners knowing jack shit of where she went and who took her. And another thing, yould be trespassing and you'd immediately be caught. How about every single animal at a zoo? We have to do the same with them wouldn't we? Not to mention, pets as well! It's way more complicated than it seems. I agree that the orcas are being treated very horribly but most are born into captivity. This means that they most likely won't survive in the wild. They don't know how to hunt, run away from predators, and they aren't immune to some bacterias that might be in the ocean. It's a nice thought but it's kinda like a fairy tale. If we were to put the captive orcas into the wild, they'd probably be the ones who were taken from the wild and not many are because they captive breed them. I wish it were this easy. No hate btw.

You do realize that animals that have been in captivity for so long cannot return to the wild as they will die due to the lack of skills getting food right? Remember free Willy? The orca died months after it was released because it couldn’t get food in the wild as it was so used to be in captivity and be given food that it was impossible to adapt, in some cases is better for the animals to stay in captivity buy i agree the orca should be given some rest of the shows and be in an aquarium for her or something like that to be in peace

It is 2024 and Corky is still in captivity 😭She is 59 yrs old, and still has to perform several times a day and for what dead fish. I wish people would do some research and would read her story from the day she was taken from her mother till now. Corky has been through so much pain, loss, and grief in captivity. Also being beat up by other orcas. Ulisses a bull male orca has attacked her many times and if they were in the same tank together Corky would literally shut down. Ulisses bit her tail flukes and it got so infected that Corky almost lost her life. If you look closely there is a piece of her tail flukes missing. Kasatcka would protect her from Ulisses but she passed away in 2017. There is a video about a year ago of Kalia the matriarch attacking Corky, it's awful. After all her pain she has endured Corky is known as the sweetest, forgiving, and gentle giant held in captivity. Last year there was a documentary made about her, I am currently searching for it. Corky deserves so much better than stuck in a tank. FREE CORKY

I'm not sure, but I'm definitely going for helping Corky, and we don't want Corky to take her last breath at a SeaWorld. She would not be released back into her natural habitat. We are urging them to retire her to a seaside sanctuary, where she could feel waves, hear wild pods, and finally have some semblance of a natural life. Help us make this happen: support.peta.org/page/1107/action/1?locale=en-US

How will this possibly help her since she probably doesn't know how to live in the wild anymore? (still don't support captive orcas and seaworld, but sometimes I struggle to see PETA's rationale)

I want her to be freed but she won’t know how to live hunt and get her own food she would die at least she is feed here it’s not good how she’s treated but she has lived there so long she wouldn’t know what to do if she was but in the sea I hope her living conditions get better.

The demand companies like sea world and marine land created caused her and many others captures … so basic in your thinking
