I like how, instead of just saying "69" (which would have gotten laughs), they instead milk it and say "between 68 and 70", which got even more laughs.

I thought it was somewhat easy humor, not thaaat funny in itself. But seeing Janet laughing about "cork soaking" emphasizes how it was kinda childish, and that to me is funny. But hey, to each his own!

The FCC rules only applies to the times between 6 AM and 10 PM. So, technically SNL can say whatever they want since in airs at 11:30 PM. They might lose sponsors though.
Amazing that Jimmy kept a straight face in THIS sketch! Also, Janet could NOT keep it together, lol

@@sssbob I agree. The most recent I've seen of him was in the first episode of The Mandalorian. It was easy to miss, as he played the blue alien guy that's taken into custody at the beginning.
The one sketch where it would have been normal for Fallon to break, yet he keeps it together. Must be the discipline from all that Corksoaking.

There was a wine bar called Cork Soakers in Houston. Shame it closed down, I guess they didn't have enough corks to soak.
I've watched SNL for almost 40 years and this is one of the funniest skits I have ever seen on SNL.
Me and My mom watched this when it aired, i just got home from work (i live in phoenix), i brought home mexican food for dinner and one this sketch started my mom who was 60 start laughing so hard, she choked on her food, then spit taked after she drank water to stop her from coughing when jimmy was talking about the Grandma lol. Good Times i miss her. BTW, Janet was still fire at this time, so gorgeous.

My mom loved the movie *Planes Trains & Automobiles* She'd laugh so hard it would have her gasping for air lol. I miss her a lot. Your post gave me the impression that your mom had passed away too. If so, I'm sorry for your loss.
The fact that Jimmy Fallon didn’t burst out laughing when they walked on stage is really impressive for him
I had an idea for a boxing skit. With an old Russian coach. And his line is that you have to "be tough" to get in the ring at his gym. But in Russian accent it sounds like "beat off". I made a few good punchlines about it but that was about it. It's funny in my mind lol. " if you want to come in my ring, you must "bee toff first". "Not everyone is born toff, here we can teach you to bee toff". Maybe someone reading this will find it funny. My friends didn't laugh when I told them my idea lol

Oh my goodness! This is so funny. And the way Janet can't hold it together is killing me 😂😂😂
Goes to show how these guys over there at SNL are true pros and worth every penny. That wasn't easy to repeat at all, even with the transcripts. One of my favorite skits along with Pete Shweaty.

She nearly ruined one of the best skits ever. If you read the comments those that saw through her act say the same, unfortunately the majority like you bought thatBS. I'm sure you thought Michael's "marriage" to Lisa Marie was legit too. The Jackson Five Fakes...lolol

The year they soaked each other’s corks was between ‘68 and ‘70. How did I not get that until now?
As a kid my parents watched snl religiously every single weekend, even inviting friends and family every so often to watch that weeks episode. Out of ALL the episodes and skits i've seen over the years growing up, this is the skit that sticks out in my memory the absolute most for whatever reason lol, along with a few others as well. Wish i could go back, you just had to be there..
This never gets old, if I need I good laugh for the day. The cowbell skit is hilarious too.😂😂
Why are people talking about Jimmy not losing it? He definitely did! And for all the right reasons. This is one of the greatest SNL skits ever! Break character!! You're not shooting a Hollywood movie. You're in New York on SNL and breaking character just makes it all the better!!! We all feel it.

The way he delivered the line, "Thank you, I dabbled in college" made it for me. He had such a neutral reaction and was showing so much restraint.

I haven't seen all SNL episodes, but I've seen a whole lot and this one is the FUNNIEST EVER! Weird I've never seen it on any of the funniest SNL skits of all time lists. The part about the year in which they soaked each other's corks was pure comedy GOLD.

Whoever wrote that skit is a godamn genius. That whole cast was great together. I really loved SNL back then. This particular cast had a shitload of great sketches and skits back then. The writers/cast members really knew how the push the envelope and thinly skate around that FCC rule about the 7 words you’re not allowed to say on television. Great stuff.

I know I’m late to the party but I watched Johnny Dangerously numerous times and I never saw anything resembling this other than Maroni mispronouncing the curses. And I watched that movie many times…..not just once…..ONCE! *pointing finger*
