Corinthian Nights - Ancient Greek Music feat. Dimitris Athanasopoulos

Музыка

Music by Dimitris Athanasopoulos of the One Man's Noise channel check out more of his awesome music at his channel, and arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is another attempt at conveying a historically accurate rendition of Ancient Greek music based on our knowledge of it.
The music is based on a recording Dimitris made, improvising on reed instruments called aulos in Antiquity. I added the sound of a varvitos lyre, as well as drums and cymbals. The main melody employs the chromatic genus of Ancient Greek modality. I added to it a drone on the lyre and aulos that repeats the tonic, something very common within horizontal, monophonic/heterophonic traditions like that of Ancient Greece.

Fun facts about ancient Corinth * ancient Corinth was famous about her.. " working girls" * the ancient canal was requiring from the sailors to drag the ships on rollers With the working girls teasing the sailors from the other side telling them nasty things about their masculinity and prompt them to prove themselves 2 millenias later and we still have in Greek the prohib that " p**sy is dragging ships uphill" 😁 * before the battle of salamis The leaders of the Greek fleet asked from the girls to pray for the sailors to goddess Aphrodite ( venus) The names of the girls was later written on a Column erected to commemorate the event ( no pun intended)

@@faryafaraji It's quite remarkable how little music has changed here over the course of 2500 years. Makes we wonder if the Thracian inspired music used in Xena Warrior Princess was not far off from what was being played in Ancient Greece where Xena takes place. Would it be not as absurd as one might think to imagine that the Iliad was recited by a choir similar to ones found in Bulgaria and Thrace.
