In fact I have easily trained many of my dogs to recall. My corgi was the first time when I learned the meaning of stubbornness. Sometimes if I recall him he looks at me and gives me a complete sh*t 🤣 but they have an incredible personality

Haha. Yes, they do have a pretty independent mind. However, if you have food, they’ll fly to the moon and back for you.

Getting our first corgi puppy at 20 weeks old (didn’t pass show dog standards, nothing bad) from a very reputable breeder. Any advice or consolation on getting an older dog past the socialization period? Thank you!

At 20 weeks old, there are plenty of opportunities to still get socialized as the pup is still young. If the breeder was intentional in raising the pup in the first 20 weeks, the dog was most likely still among other dogs and received decent amount of exposure to other dogs and people. Most of the adjustment will likely still be getting used to your pace of life away from his litter. If you haven’t already, check out part 4 of this training series on some socialization tips. At this point, any new adventure combined with some obedience training in all contexts and places will work wonders.
