Gettin' Down on the Mountain - share it! #cabinfever
From the new album, 'Cabin Fever' in stores & online worldwide August 14, 2012 via New West Records.
"We shot this one just before the snow melt in northern Alberta. Something me and my buddy Fish came up with. You likely won't see it on TV because is has 'shit' over and over in the choruses. And the beard is real, in answer to numerous inquiries. Directed and shot by Fish Griwkowsky and edited by Justin Lachance." - Corb Lund

Lyrics!!! When the oil stops, everything stops, nothin' left in the fountain Nobody wants paper money, son, so you just as well stop countin' Can you break the horse, can you light the fire? What's that, I beg your pardon? You'd best start thinkin' where your food comes from and I hope you tend a good garden Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain Don't wanna be around when the shit goes down I'll be gettin' down on the mountain When the trucks don't run, the bread won't come, have a hard time findin' petrol Water ain't runnin' in the city no more, do you hold any precious metal? Can you gut the fish, can you read the sky? What's that about overcrowdin'? You ever seen a man who's kids ain't ate for seventeen days and countin'? Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain Don't wanna be around when the shit goes down I'll be gettin' down on the mountain There ain't no heat and the power's gone out, it's kerosene lamps and candles The roads are blocked, it's all gridlocked, you got a shortwave handle? Can you track the deer, can you dig the well? I couldn't quite hear your answer I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo? Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain Don't wanna be around when the shit goes down I'll be gettin' down on the mountain, goin' to ground on the mountain When the oil stops, everything stops, nothin' left in the fountain Nobody wants paper money, son, so you just as well stop countin' Can you break the horse, can you light the fire? What's that, I beg your pardon? I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you pass the ammo? Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain Don't wanna be around when the shit goes down I'll be gettin' down on the mountain Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain Don't wanna be around when the shit goes down I'll be goin' to ground on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain

The answer to literally every one of those questions is "nope". Including passing the ammo. I'd probably drop it. My post apocalyptic survival strategy is to be a wandering holy lunatic. I'm something of a natural talent. Once civilization collapses and my meds run out, I think I'll really come into my own. God protects holy men and fools, and I'll be both!

Straight up this played on my mix when playing far cry 5, in the whitetail mountains, while I was being chased. What a killer intro to a song I never heard.
"This is the world we have set on fire." Wendell Berry
Very prescient: a good lyrical summary of the outlook and skills we've lost and must re-acquire.
Whew! Great tune and hope this means an upcoming Canadian tour! We used to be teased about growing up 'on the mountain' or being 'hillbillies' just because of how high up our ranch was. Now everyone wants to move up here. Thankfully we could certainly survive almost anything. I wouldn't be running through the bush with my microwave under my arm looking for a 'plug-in' in order to make my meals....ha

Corb embodies a great, great deal of what Alberta is about (and yup, a born and raised "son") and is impressing me as one of those kind of Canadians that surpasses the title of "iconic", and enters into the realm of an inspiration that has, and continues to add depth to the fabric of this province and nation. Then again, maybe its because he simply understands about getting stuck with the truck!
This song makes sense more in 2022 than ever before.

Went to Calgary last week. Homeless people and speakers playing upbeat music in the middle of the day. Parking was everywhere. No lineups or traffic. No blue eyed sheiks on lunch break. Even the Glenbow Museum is shuttered. Could've been playing this song.
The tragically hilarious thing about this song is people don't yet grasp that the time horizon is for this is ... ... ... right around the corner. lol.

Wow! I just about didn't recognize Corb with that big wraparound... My older sister Connie always said when things go south she's heading for the mountains. We've all got skills from growing up snaring rabbits, raising our own pigs, chickens, hunting prairie chickens, deer, moose, beaver, even bear meat was good if it wasn't a Dump eating bear... Yee haw! Back to the bush!
