I saw this guy play without his band in a small room in Nashville. No overwhelming noise and you can hear every word. Nothing to hide, no crutches, no soundboard magic. All talent.

Same thing! This was back in my college days. He was in town recording horse soldier and I saw him with his bass player and drummer at a dive I can’t remember the name of. Maybe 20 people in the audience. The arena shows are awesome but he is something else in a small venue. Sang his heart out all night. Still the best show I’ve ever been to.

I just seen turnpike troubadours… they’re another’n… they sound better than the album live.
