    Pensions don't have as much money as people think they do. They would go broke real quick and there would be no money for many of the settlements that have to be paid out. Pensions only survive the way they do because they are paid out over time, they are not designed for large sum settlements and like many people suing need sometimes. A couple multi-million dollar settlements and there goes the pension funds.

    when a higher ranking officer tells a patrol officer "put him in the back of the squad car..." that's not a suggestion... that's an order... there was no, 'do you think we need to put him in the car...' no 'what do you think??'... no 'look, I don't know what's going on, what do you suggest....' it was ' PUT. HIM. IN. THE. BACK. OF. THE. CAR....' that's how EVERY patrol cop will take that from a sergeant..... he KNEW that, but he's trying to avoid responsibility now because it's going to be hell to pay now... if he doesn't want responsibility, then don't accept the sergeant stripes.... there was a recent settlement for $28 Million and the city got to say that they don't admit to any wrongdoing.... they DON'T care... it's not their money and it's not out of their pockets...

    You can bet that his lawyer pressured him into accepting that, and without stipulating any conditional criminal consequeces for any of the cops, on acceptance of the settlement agreement. Meanwhile, the victim most likely had to agree to conditions as part of the settlement.

I know I never voted to allow them to lie to us or have qualified immunity, or to even use the money I paid in to cover these lawsuits. I am confused as to where and how our tax dollars are being used properly to run our governing systems.

    I appreciate your frustration but the real waste is the money paid to the culpable cops as wages, not for the courts who are supposed to decide the redress or the amount of the redress to the victims. There has to be better funding for training of cops and more holding them to account when they do wrong.

    I grew up in Milwaukee and was a teen in the mid 90s. My absolute hatred for police came from them routinely harassing us, robbing us and beating us in alleys if we didn't have money or drugs for them to steal. I got arrested multiple times for false charges that were eventually dropped. Luckily I somewhat knew my rights (not as much as I do now), and would immediately lawyer up when they would try to force a confession or pin some crime on me. They didn't like that too much, and I would get roughed up for using my 5th ammendment. I got out of that shit hole city 20 years ago, and I see it hasn't changed much....

    I'm sure the majority of similar situations do go away because people don't have the evidence or means to bring it to light. The DA is certainly unconcerned and of no help. The victim accepting a settlement for civil liability doesn't erase the fact that crimes were comitted by these cops, yet prosecutors remain silent and complicit.

    How did he not get more money? They lied, covered it up and violated many other constitutional rights from what the actual charge was to not having their body cams on once an arrest has been initiated! These cops should have been suspended without pay at the minimum and have a charge applied to their file! If they were able to get all five or six of them to agree to this it makes me think if they've done this before! I can't imagine that not one of those cops turned on their bodycam!! I wonder if this guy asked for a foia on that day for footage! It would be a bigger deal if they found that they also deleted the bodycam footage if it exists which should be criminal at that point!

    Somehow he shot downwards into his friends leg, without anyone seeing him do it. But also, with the same shot, shot upwards into the ceiling. That managed to hit another guy, that claimed possession of the firearm, and that guy took off running.
