LYRICS TO EXTRA VERSE:
My family’s men folk built this town
Law tries to take ‘em, break ‘em down
But what they don’t know and they’ll never guess
I’m a damn good smuggler in a cotton dress
I saw my family get tore up good
Learned from their mistakes, learned everything g I could
Made ‘em all think I’m the girl next door
But I’ll always be a Pettimore down to my core
And I’ll keep quiet the family code
Ain’t nothin’ goin’ down on Copperhead Road

I live up in Hancock County, TN. The motorcycle run on the maps called "Copperhead Road" runs right by my farm on State Road 63. This song could be about some of my neighbors, good, freedom loving, tough people. I love it here.

Right in the valley below me is Snake Hollow Road. LOL ! The motorcycle route is on those maps they sell at some gas stations, and runs from Bean Station up 31 to 66, then down 66 to Rogersville where it goes onto 70, then up 70 to Kyle's Ford where it switches onto 33, and follows 33 to Sneedville, where it switches onto 63 and runs up through the ridges to Harrogate.

Excellent, excellent, excellent. Best cover I have heard in a long time. The extra verse could have been written by Steve Earl himself. You matched the cadence and lyrical tempo to a tea. Well done.

I LOVE this song. I am descendent from the McCoy family of the McCoy/Hatefield feud, so I descend from a long line of moonshine smugglers. My mom was also born in Johnson City Tennesse and lived in Knoxville for years as a kid. I can relate to this song from my grandma's stories. I remember my mama telling me not to say anything if I saw a moonshine still while visiting Tennesse and North Carolina.

I am from Knoxville. This verse reminds me of my family. My grandmother was a McCoy (yes one of those from the fued in West Virginia) and like my dad and Grandfather I joined the Marines at 17. We are Scott's Irish and we were born fighting.

I love Steve Earle - one of my favourite badass singers of all time, and his original song is still the best. However, I love this version - Amy N' Me have given it a red hot go and succeeded. Does anyone else out there think there's a film in this song ????

Love it. The history of making shine and the rise of NASCAR go hand in hand. So many racers started out running shine, running around a track making left turns must have been a real lark for those old boys.
