Any time a LEO wants to confiscate private property, ask for a receipt. If the officer is acting in good faith they will give you one.

Why in the hell was the cop not charged with theft??? He STOLE that man's rifle. He should have been charged theft and abuse of power not merely fired. He just went from one police force to another. That jerk needs to switch his badge number for a prison number.

@@Jock609 WRONG. The Right to Bear Arms is a HUMAN RIGHT that is a consequence of the universally accepted Right of Self-Defense. A legal right requires the right to the possession of the MEANS to secure that right. Example: Right to Freedom of Press implies the right to possess and operate a press. Possession of Personal firearms is the ONLY practical means of Self-Defense, so there is an implied right to possess and carry personal firearms. This logic is impeccable and irrefutable. If a legal system in a country does not recognize the right to keep (own) and bear (carry) arms, that system is simply illogical and hence invalid, regardless of institutional implementation or lack thereof.

@@DavidFMayerPhD Your response is wrong and incorrect in so many ways. The only point on which we agree is the right to self defense. After that we separate. It is NOT an universal Right to carry fire arms, and i'm glad for that. Compare the countries that have the right to bear firearms to other countries and how many atrocities have occurred through the right to bear arms with countries who have no such right. The difference in death count is staggering. In those countries who have the right to bear arms the death count is so much higher. The right of self defense is (usually) limited to what is reasonable or commensurate to the force one is defending against; no more no less. After having lived in over 10 different countries and visited over 40 more, some countries where they have the right to bear arms and some who do not; I can say that the safest countries are those where you do not have the right to bear arms.

I'm astonished the cop admitted taking it. "I don't know what he's talking about" seems like it would have been more likely. Through an attorney I'd also be demanding that exact firearm returned (by serial number) and when they couldn't produce it I'd demand it be entered into the stolen gun database so it if ever showed up again whomever had it would have a LOT of explaining to do.

Story 1 Not going to call total BS on this story but no STATE has a total ban on hunting not to mention at the time the officer encounters OP the most they can tell absolutely for sure is OP is open carrying a gun on their private property something that's perfectly legal and depending on the state you could do right it in the middle of town. Alot of state hunting and enforcement of hunting rules/ regulations are not done by the police or sheriff but Game Wardens authorized by that states Department of Natural Resources and this don't consider disposal of varmints common enough for Farmers/ Ranchers done at anytime all year round. Then finally there is at least in the US the violation of the Second Amendment

Since he was "Reimbursed" for the Rifle, Where did the "Confiscated" weapon go? Technically it was Evidence of a supposed Crime, requiring Chain of Custody. IF the Deputy Disposed of it Improperly (such as keeping it himself, providing it to someone else, or even destroying it), there should have been Repercussions other than just being "Terminated", unless such "Termination" involved his No Longer Breathing. Rather generally, when dogs are involved a shotgun is being used. The dogs are needed to drive the game toward you through brush, therefore the range is close like for Rabbits, or to Flush Birds, Sometimes Deer in certain States. A Rifle might be used After the Dogs Tree a Bear, or maybe Squirrels. My Father was a Deputy Game Warden for a number of years. He always said that approaching an Armed Person In The Woods is about the most dangerous thing one can do. A person inclined to Break the Law, could very easily leave you laying there, especially if they have just broken it. A Loaded Rifle in Their Hands, your pistol in the holster? Not good odds. Maybe why he Always Carried a Loaded Rifle Too?
