What EWU failed to relay was, yes he was suspended pending an investigation, but that was a PAID suspension, and he retired ending the investigation. He now walks away without any reprecussions, and gets to enjoy his full pension. There are zero consequences for officers who behave like this. And I love the one Officer, blaming their phones for blowing up on the auditors. Why don’t you put the blame officer, on your fellow officer, who ratcheted the whole thing up. You guys never look at yourselves and think you’re the cause of the problem. If that officer had not gone off on a tirade, if he had kept his cool and de-escalated the situation, like he’s trained to do, your phones wouldn’t be ringing off the hook. It amazes me that the police can never look at themselves as being the problem. It’s always somebody else’s fault.

Most American cops aren't trained to deescalate. You can look it up. They have just about the lowest training time in any modern country. Any nuanced law is gonna fly above their heads, which is ironic that you and I are supposed to know every law, but they just know the most common offenses and get those wrong a lot of the time. Most also just require a high school diploma. And they don't even rate in the top twenty five most dangerous jobs.

From what I've seen of these "first amendment auditor" types, many of them try to provoke other people deliberately. So the caller, who sounded like he had a foreign accent, might have assumed that he was being harassed because of his ethnicity or national origin. Rightly or wrongly, he probably called the police because he felt like he was being threatened. And there could be cultural differences in the society where the caller was raised, that added to his perception of a potential threat. The dispatcher has to assume that the caller is contacting the police department due to legitimate fear for his safety, and has no choice but to send officers out.

Some of these auditor guys try to purposely stir stuff up so they can get views on the Internet. The foreign man who was being filmed probably didn't know what to think, because he's probably not familiar with something like that. I'm guessing that's why he called 911. If you are continuously harassed by a group of men of unknown intentions or capabilities who keep screaming abuse at you - which is a fair assumption about First Amendment Auditors - I can totally understand that you would feel threatened and call for help. This is precisely what these people want: Make you feel threatened, make you feel attacked, but still being barely within the confines of the law. They want to provoke a reaction so that they can then pretend to be the victim. I have seen First Amendment Auditors follow people, yell at them, insult them... these are not pleasant people. As a regular citizen, I would have been terrified by their behavior and called the police. I remember one cop I read about informed a man he violated that he is a good cop then he tossed the man's genetalia, inserted his fingers into his rear end looking for drugs and found zero got fired; and jail time really believes he was a good cop. What this cop and others who thinks they are good cops in their heads doesn't realize is that a good cop have high standards and should follow protocol unless their lives are hanging on a string with one option. 'Protect and Serve' are the key and most cops don't have a clue what that means.
