Cop Racially Profiles, Pulls Gun On & Pepper Sprays Fellow Cop

An Embassy of Qatar special police officer was pepper-sprayed and detained by a Maryland cop for impersonating a cop. The arrested man was fired and is suing. Dr. Rashad Richey and Jessica Burbank discuss on Indisputable. Tell us what you think in the comments below.
Read more here: atlantablackst...
"Steven Alexander was walking home with groceries after a night shift as an Embassy of Qatar special police officer in 2018 when a taser-drawn Maryland police officer approached him and demanded that he show his credentials.
When Alexander refused, the officer pointed his firearm at him and demanded that he get on the ground. Once he was on the ground, the officer pepper-sprayed Alexander before putting him in handcuffs, according to a lawsuit obtained by Atlanta Black Star."

    Actually, he was done policing. His shift was over; and he stopped at the grocery store on his walk home. Just sounds like a family that might be working out of one car right now, and since he didn't live far away, it was easier for him to walk home. But, at the end of his work day, he thought of his family, and stopped to pick up a few things they needed on his way to the house. A man walking home, with groceries in his hand, doesn't warrant an arrest and beating!!

    The reason he was fired is because state law federal law actually maintains that any uniformed officer who is stopped within a city or state that is not their own in an unrecognizable uniform, (which an embassy police uniform is unrecognizable because it's not very common to see them out in public) but when a uniform cop is asking another man in a police uniform to show his credentials that officer must show his credentials and in this case when the cop asked the embassy police officer for his credentials he said no that's why he was fired because he didn't follow federal guidelines

  • @HiltonHoskins

    @HiltonHoskins

    @@patriciazernone-wood5423 hold on there. Now, the police officer had no reason to stop him, which violated his 4th Amendment and possibly 5th Amendment rights. He was carrying groceries which anyone with any common sense should know that he's not a threat. Also, this man was in fact racially profiled. You can tell through the report. The arresting officer said that he saw a police utility belt with a holster without any weapon in it. No one impersonating a police officer would travel without a weapon. They would go the distance, and have the weapon on them. Which leads to the weapon being missing from the holster. He was not in jurisdiction of the embassy so he was not armed because him going into the grocery store with his fire arm would in fact make people by default assume that he's a police officer. I worked armed security in uniform and we were required if we was to go inside a business that was not our assigned post, not to carry our firearm. The impersonating an officer charge holds no water because he didn't not attempt to act in the official capacity as a law enforcement officer. He was walking through the park with groceries. So you argument about him breaking state and federal law is very wrong. Also, police officers when seeing another person wearing a badge which they aren't sure of can ask, if they're an officer from another place close by or if they're a security officer, which should have been common sense. Long story short, you are trying to justify what happened to this man because of your bias. You couldn't see him as a human being and that's why you made the asinine comment you just made. You automatically assumed the cop was right when it is clear that he wasn't. At no time did the man arrested try to impersonate an officer. All the charges against him were unfounded. He lost his job due to him serving jail time, not the hot winded crap you commented here. The arresting cop had a superiority complex and got upset because he wasn't bowed down to. He acted totally unprofessional, he should be fired and jailed for false arrest along with felonious assault to start! He abused his power, period. That's fact.

    @@jonadams2334 I love how something is turned into a race issue when it's not a race issue. it's about a man in an unrecognizable police uniform, walking through a federal land, and there's a concern of police impersonation, because of the unrecognizable police uniform. Police code of conduct for ALL LEVELS of police officers State local and Federal hours... when you are asked to provide your credentials you are to provide your credentials, period, end of story. this man did not provide his credentials when asked he flatly said no, that's why he was fired from the embassy police because he did not follow protocol. He said no several times actually. It wasn't till after he was arrested that police found not one credentials they found three sets of credentials two which were expired, so they had to investigate the legitimacy of the credentials. In all reality they both escalated this situation! One cop escalated by refusal to follow protocol of wearing uniform within another district. Then the other cop escalated, by continuing on excessively when he was already in position to handcuff the embassy officer. However, none of this would have happened had the embassy officer just showed his credentials as he is supposed to do when he's out in uniform off duty according to federal law and department policy

    @@HiltonHoskins the naivety of people 😅 police people in uniform went outside there's district are required by law to offer their credentials to police officers when asked, and this embassy officer refused to do that. it is illegal to just walk around with a police uniform on by any civilian according to Maryland state law, that was their lawful reason to stop this man. They had the legal authority to make sure he was a legal officer and he refused to do that in the very beginning when he was asked for his credentials. I'm telling you the embassy officer is going to lose in court. Simply because once he stated he was embassy officer, he was asked for his credentials and he said no, right there he violated the federal police policy that he took an oath of. he was fired from his job because he did not follow protocol by offering his credentials upon request. This whole thing has nothing to do about race has nothing to do with any of that, Maryland law 5-302 makes it illegal for any citizen to Bear any uniform with the words police or a badge unless they are a lawful officer within the United States. And it states if the person is an officer they must provide their credentials upon request he didn't he had three sets of credentials they couldn't verify them therefore he was arrested do I think the one cop was out of hand in the way he took him down yes of course but they are both wrong in this case there were no violations of Rights excessive force yes violation of Rights no

The cops know this, but they are cheating all the time in order to get some kind of upper hand. It becomes a contest, which the citizens will always lose because they are NOT the ones in power.

    Guilt - and all else - is in the hands of the Seizing/Arresting Officer. Only control *you* have is to avoid encounters as much as possible. Presume that your existence is seen as a kind of crime. Assume others think for you to not accept your (lowly) place is a worse crime, I.e. do not be in positions, or show possessions, that go with having status or authority Finally, presume you are surrounded by vengeful, resentful, entitled Narcissists! Example: do not be seen driving a vehicle, even in the context of employment. Too many people think it is a severe “moral crime” for those under *Proscription* to drive. Second example: one must not be seen in a position that requires the use of weapons (outside of, say, certain parts of the military, and then only during wartime. Recall the military was segregated up until, I *think,* Korea. Certain positions were forbidden for non-whites, Ugh.) I looked into why he was terminated and he was let go due to failure to follow rules of conduct set by DSS (Diplomatic Security Services). Since the rule clearly states that any engagement with local law enforcement, the official will comply with all given requests or orders that doesn't violate National Security or agency integrity. Which means when the embassy officer refused to provide his credentials to the officer, he relished his authority as a federal official. So he failed to follow policy and was reprimanded for it.

    @@MichaelFludd Yes, since this occurs nearly daily in the United States. All this man had to do is show his credentials to show that he was an actual federal officer (which is required by all agencies in all levels of government) and the situation wouldn't have been escalated. Like I clearly stated, I checked into why he was terminated from his position and it was due to him failing to follow policies when dealing with local law enforcement. I mean it would be like a police officer from California going to Texas and being stopped by local law enforcement for carrying a firearm and acting as though the local police don't have the authority to challenge them on carrying a firearm. I mean if you want to be a racist and make this about race, then you have the right to be whoever you want, but you don't have the right to tell someone else that they must be a racist and view the situation as racist.

    @@MichaelFludd I agree, but what isn't happening on the regular is the reporting of all incidents like this. The reporting is racially one-sided by the sources telling us. I had someone file a complaint stating I was being racist during their arrest back in 2005; what is odd is that I wasn't the arresting official and had just showed up after the individual was already in the back of the patrol unit. I never even spoke to the individual or the arresting official. I just walked up and turned around due to another emergency call. The arresting officials was two black individuals and my patrol partner was biracial. Which I am also, but lighter complexion. So I like to view situations with removing demographics of race and sex. That way I have a more equality view point instead of allowing someone's demographics dictate my view of the situation.
