I'm getting ready to do a Canadian blonde kit with my Coopers DIY kit that I bought back 2012 after watching this video. I have made a lot of beer using this kit. Kits, partial mash, all grain... I had to buy other gear over the years but the wort always ends up in the DIY fermenter. Thanks again to Craig for introducing me to this kit and homebrewing in general.

My Grandfather made his "Home Brew" from the time of prohibition until he passed away in the mid 1980's He used Blue Ribbon hoped malt extract, Table Sugar and plain old yeast, he fermented in a warm place in an old 5 gallon crock covered with a clean towel, he then bottled in brown qt. bottles. I don't think he ever had a bad batch. He drank a qt. or two every evening while watching t.v. until he was an old man and God took him home. The only sanitizer he used was Bleach. I drank a few of these in my lifetime with him and they were pretty good beer, with a good kick. Now I have tried my hand and dove in head first with an all grain Brown ale, it is sitting in the kegerator where it needs a couple of weeks to clarify, I have drank a few test beers from this, it's cloudy good full flavor but not so strong in the alcohol dept. as I anticipated

Great video Craig. Thanks. You talked me into brewing a Canadian Blonde. It is December so I will call it my snowblower beer. It is in the bucket and is 31.5 hrs into the fermentation. I will let you know how it turns out. I am sure it will be delicious as is all the Coopers brew cans I have tried. I usually lean towards the Mexican Cerveza, but I decided to try other styles this time. Tomorrow I will brew a Cooper's Preaches Hefe Witbier. I also have a Coopers Dark ale waiting to be brewed. I made a Cerveza last time and also a Coopers European Lager. I am glad I decided to try some new styles. I was getting a little bored with just one choice in the fridge. Your channel has been a great help during my learning period. Now I have a bit more confidence and am raising my brewing experience to a higher level. I am not sure I need to try full mash brewing, but I may do a partial mash again...last ones I did did not turn out to my liking but, those were a Black Dog Pale Ale, and the other was a short boil Mexican Cerveza. I tried a mangrove Jacks also and swore I would never do anything but the Cerveza, but...now I know what I did wrong, and my taste buds are becoming a bit more sophisticated, so it is onward and upward. I want to experience that WOOOOO, for myself. Cheers. Ron B (hombre)

I have made coopers and some other kits. And I am going start a Coopers Real Ale today. I do not have malt extract so I am going to use brown sugar and have done so before with no side effects and it came out just fine. I used dry malt extract in the last German Lager in my last brew and brew and that wasn't my best bear but it was drinkable. So I am not convinced that I 'must' use dry malt extract. Brown sugar works just fine. Thanks for the vid, I picked some new tricks. CHEERS!!!

Hello Mr. Craig, Thanks for recommending Coopers kit. I've just finished batch based on Wheat Coopers and it tasted more like Witbier than Weizen. To the last batch (Draught Coopers) I used table sugar (extra fine) dedicated to desserts and ice cream. Cider taste is minimal compared to the previous batch to which I added table plain sugar and Demerara (cane sugar from Mozambique). In any case cider flavor disappears completely after 3 weeks. A lot of patience for all home brewers! Cheers!

Great to see a real person and not a corporate video how to, gives me some good insights into the process before trying it. What confuses me is that you bang on about bacteria all the time. Then you spend minutes talking with the kit open and full of ingredients in front of you, I don't think you realise that if your talking your spitting, and spit contains bacteria. You also licked your fingers in this one. This either proves that bacterial contamination isn't so big a deal or you are lucky.

Hi Craig. Great video as usual. I have made the Cooper's Canadian Blonde a couple of times, with a different variation each time. I can tell you I had the most positive comments when I simply used a brew enhancer, which is essentially what you did by using a combo of DME and dextrose. This last time I did this kit I used the kit plus 100% DME and it simply did not fit the style. I normally brew 100% malt for myself, but when brewing for people used to American beer, you need to use adjuncts

One question (and apologies if it's obvious but I am extremely new to this): Is it possible to substitute the Dry Malt Extract for Liquid Malt Extract and if so is the dextrose still necessary? We added a "Morgan Hops Finishing" teabag. It said on the package that we should put the bag in a cup with hot water for 10mins. *AND* that the teabag with hops was supposed to be thrown in the fermenting bucket and stay there for the whole period? Will be exiting to taste this one! Did a Coopers Stout as our 1st.

I decided to try the Canadian blonde and decided to follow in your footsteps and add 500g of dry malt extract with about 700g of dextrose. I did a og with it reading in the 1.060 to 1.070. This is normal? It's a lot higher than the range on the instructions. Thanks, love your channel bra

@lkcheat Thank you for the advice! I will most certainly try that the second time around. I am going to pick up another American Cream Ale kit this week and give it another go-around. The beer is definitely good. I am going to try secondary fermentation after three days in the primary. I am also considering Irish Moss for clarification, and also the addition of brown sugar in place of the corn sugar in the 60 minute boil. Any experience using brown sugar as priming sugar? Is it possible?

Just two hints. Coopers makes 23 liter batches 6 US Gallons not 5 like US Kits. Second if you add the DME first and then boiling water on top and swirl the fermenter you will get less clumps. DME is crazy clumping when it hits the steam off the hot water and clumps as it falls into water.

To sanitize, I use sodium metabisulfite in a spray bottle. I always rince in boiled water. Metabisilfite is hard on yeasts and it retards a nice carbonation. Besides, I could sometimes have a taste or smell of sulfure. You don't want that.

What about the smaller can refills for the mr beer kit, do you need to add the malt and other stuff?

Hey Craig. Thank you for being a major force in getting me to begin home brewing. Your hard work is very much appreciated! I recently brewed a Brewer's Best, American Cream Ale kit. I payed extra attention to sanitization, and did not do a secondary fermentation. I left the beer in the primary for 7 days, after which i siphoned it to a bottling bucket and bottled it. It sat for two weeks and I gave it a try. The beer seems too bitter. Is this style supposed to be really bitter? Thoughts?

@craigTube Ive already added half tsp originally, do you mean to open the bottle and add another half a tsp which would make 1 tsp in each 500ml bottle. If i can clarify what i mean, the neck of the bottle where ive left a space for the expansion of the carbonation - that area doesn't look frothy or bubbly, its just flat looking, BUT when i lightly tilt and shake the bottle around lots of bubbles rush to the base of the bottle - ive made stout
