The ears, the slobber, the howl...The Hound!!

Our first Bloodhound (almost 30 years ago) had the sweetest singing howl. I still can hear her singing when I think about her and wished I had a recording of her. Brenna was a Red Bloodhound and from all the Bloodhound's my wife and I had over the years they all have a different voice, but that old girl had the best singing voice, maybe Brenna has a special place in my heart being the first Hound to have lived with us. My wife and I had the first RCMP validated SAR Bloodhound in British Columbia Canada about 20 years ago, Marley was poisoned right in our back yard buy one of our community neighborhood members, Marley survived the initial poisoning but past 18 months later from a very aggressive form of nose cancer. My wife and I trained Human Scent discrimination Bloodhounds for almost 30 years. It's been almost 20 years now since the wife and I were given the opportunity to train Bloodhounds with the FBI and you know that it was the high light of my life. I tell you it is something to have your wife tell you that ever since she was a little girl, Bloodhounds were her Dream Dog and to train Bloodhounds with the Best of Best and to have someone do that to her Dog is so unbelievable it's almost incomprehensible.

It’s like he knows, looking out over those beautiful mountains, that maybe he has some relatives down there and would like to say hello. Also, I can tell he is a very big guy! I had a petite (65#) female with perfect markings💜🐶💜

He is so wise his howl is a response to the song of the winds of nature that's blowing thru his ears saying welcome home 🏞️🌄

I love old hounds. My granddaddy always. Had some and most of the old men around did too. I raised a bunch My self and hunted. Also. Love to hear one baul. Its music to,my ears,,,,,

Those dedicated to this breed often refer to "the music of the hounds". That is a beautiful dog, and I would love to hear the sound recorded from a couple of miles away.

That's so cool sounding! Mine is 4 months old and he hasn't howled yet lol I heard a tiny sound that seemed like it would become one one time lol but that's it

I believe Trapper's breed is Grand Bleu de Gascogne. One of them named Sydney owned me several years ago, and I was lucky enough to live with a second, Echo, for 12 1/2 years more recently. That sound brought back so many memories! It's interesting to note that some of the first records of the breed in America include presentation of a pack of seven Grand Bleus from General Lafayette to George Washington in 1785, who compared their melodious voices to the bells of Moscow.

That’s an interesting theory. At 100lbs he towers over most other coonhounds we meet so you might be on to something. He came from a rescue shelter so there’s no way of knowing for sure but stay tuned, I might get him a dog DNA test.

I think I know which ones you mean, I once saw some photos of beautiful French hunting hounds that look very much like Coonhounds. And there are also Basset Bleu Gascogne. Gorgeous!
