Here are some super hotel tricks that every traveller should know about. They sound crazy but are so simple you will wonder why you hadn’t thought of them before. Many travellers, especially those on a long business trip find themselves in hotels for long stretches of time. Eating meals at restaurants or ordering room service day after day becomes quite a bore. Sometimes you crave nothing more than a simple home-cooked meal. With these amazingly creative hotel tricks, you’ll be able to cook yourself a healthy meal using a tea-maker and iron, appliances that are readily available in most hotels.
The next time you are stuck in a hotel that doesn't offer free breakfast, don't worry. You can still fix yourself a good home-cooked hot breakfast in your hotel room.
There are also some great tips and tricks in this video for those travelling on a budget. Hotel laundry services are usually quite expensive. With the simple tips and hotel tricks shown here, you’ll never have to worry about dirty jeans or smelly clothes any more.
If you are a tourist, the last thing you need is your mobile with the fancy camera dying on you. This video shows you how you can charge your phone without a charger!
In most hotels, the power switches off the moment you leave the room. This is pretty annoying when you come back to a warm room after spending the whole day outdoors. This video shows you how you can keep the AC on so that you come back to a room cooled to perfection.

+EC Hawaii The person who made this video also saves money by not leaving a tip for housekeeping. My brother worked in housekeeping for a large hotel chain and he had to clean up after a lot of jerks. Most just figure that people who work in housekeeping clean 12 rooms an hour and must therefore earn $24 an hour in tips plus minimum wage and thus are highly paid and don't work hard when they know nothing about it. The average hotel housekeeper cannot do an adequate job in under fifteen minutes and most take more like twenty and they literally are running around exhausted. The truth is only a quarter of all hotel guests leave any kind of a tip. Travelers who stay in high priced hotels assume that all the workers are very highly paid and that is not true. The average hotel worker makes twenty five cents an hour above minimum wage. Most people believe hotel workers make a killing in tips when the average housekeeping tip, regardless of length of stay is $2 for the entire stay and that is average among those who actually leave a tip. People who work in housekeeping get an average of about $5 a day in tips from travelers. Often they are required to give their supervisors a cut, up to half. Sometimes they have to give the hotel part of their tip, up to half. They have to declare their tips on their taxes and often they have to subtract tips from their wages. In other words, most people who work in housekeeping make almost nothing in tips in the end. But they have to put up with a lot. In my brother's ten years in housekeeping he found in rooms: Three dead bodies over 50 dead animals (cats, dogs, monkeys parrots etc.) over one thousand times he found feces in places other than the toilet Television, lamp, telephone cords cut Missing fridges, irons, mattresses, furniture, toilet tank, sink, television, door, thermostats, faucets, carpet, phone three times murals painted on the wall by guests who thought they were Michelangelo remnants of a campfire (smoke detectors disabled) Cement poured down the toilet, sink, tub drain. dozens of broken windows and mirrors A hole cut in the wall to gain entry to the room next door. A plastic tote with tiny air holes in it filled with thousands of live cockroaches Live pets left behind including cats, dogs, snakes, pigs, lizards, fish in fish bowls, dozens of assorted birds, and a donkey and the mess that goes with such live animals. Three occasions guests left behind their children, one parent was never located and said child went into the foster care system. Cigarette burns in sheets, pillow cases, towels, carpet and curtains as well as furniture. Hundreds of rolls of toilet paper stuffed down the toilet. several occasions where someone took the toilet lid off a toilet tank and rigged it to run continuously, see previous item. various cooking appliances brought by guests into hotel and left turned on and smoking. And on hundreds of occasions unidentifiable substances staining, cemented into place, adhering to surfaces, ruining surfaces, making messes of carpets, walls, ceilings, doors, appliances, televisions. Oh and untold hundreds, thousands of occasions when someone left nasty food messes in or on objects not intended for said food, often hardened, caked on, moldy and usually rotten and smelly. And housekeeping is always the ones who have to clean these up and NO they don't get extra time nor extra pay to clean up the above. They still have to average under twenty minutes per room at the end of the day.

This video is now introduced by Huff Post Japan without disclaimer. As the result, many viewers got these ideas as the serious offense to the hotels and got them disgusted because they are seen as totally inappropriate, such as blowing your dirty socks by the hair dryer, cooking ramen with the hot water kettle, and cooking eggs by the iron -- I don't believe nobody gets it as an serious advice though!! It means don't practice some at all at least as you travel in Japan. They will refuse you for your second stay!

'Deal about the 'business card' is real, especially when sharing a room and you want to be out while the other stays in. Most hotel rooms need the key+card factor and sometimes they only provide one. So placing any card with similar shape and size keeps the room running without deactivating.

Using a kettle for cooking is a bad idea. Maybe hard boiling eggs would be OK, but porridge (oatmeal) and ramen would gunk up the heating element and make the next guest have really icky tea. A better solution would be to get those cup of soups and instant oatmeal bowls where you just add hot water.

Kraft Dinner can be made in a small 4 cup coffee maker! Just stir often, occasionally add a bit more water and be patient as it takes a while. Because there is space in the small coffee pot, you won't have much water to drain. When you go to mix in your butter and (powdered) milk, I suggest taking some pasta from the coffee pot and putting it in a cup, because there is no room in the pot to mix without making a mess. Tip: Take mini packs of butter, salt and pepper from hotel restaurant. Personally I have milk and butter in my mini-fridge to make it properly, but I'd be interested to know how powdered milk would work in KD.

Personally, I dont like to cook even water in a hotel kettle. I dont know how about other people, but when I dont know when it was last properly cleaned with citric acid or white vineygar water, then I dont want to use it. It feels yucky to me... But it is me... Some like it hot, lol. I always take a small portable water heater. It is just a piece of iron with a wire. You plug it in and the piece of iron on the other end gets hot. You are supposed to put it right in your cup and in a short time voila - the water boils! It is light weight, cheap, and easy to use. And it is mine, so I know when it was last cleaned... With this equipment I can boil water not just for a nice cup of coffee or tea, but also water in a bowl to make some instant ramen (you just pour it with hot water and let it stand for 3 minutes - and there you go, dinner is ready). Or for whatever food I wish.

Eww do people really cook in the Kettles? And what about having stinky wet socks on the hairdryer. I don't think that they (cleaners) would think to clean the rim of the hairdryer or the inside of a kettle. Just disrespectful to the next costomers.

For all people saying cooking in electric kettle it is very inappropriate for other guest in the room but what people mostly do is they boil the water then pour it in the noodles or any other foods

I don't know about you, but I always travel with foil. Not to mention raw eggs cheese and bread. I suppose this is for when you are staying for a while. Also, if you have a fridge in your room with a freezer, no less, there is probably a microwave.

The first one made absolutely no sense at all. What would a business card have to do with leaving the air conditioner on? You either have it on or you don't.

+nunya biznez nah my family used to do the same thing, we stuff some pamphlets in the slot so that the aircon stays on. perhaps there's is a mechanism that turns it on when you slide something into the slot

Please don’t cook in the kettle. The hotel doesn’t clean the kettles so it just leaves it gross for the next person.
