Coolant Bypass Kit by Fleece Performance Install: 2005 Dodge Cummins 5.9L Automatic

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Another product from Fleece Performance built out of necessity is the Coolant Bypass kit. The Cummins engine cooling system was designed to adequately cool a 300-350hp engine. When the horsepower is increased there is an increased demand on the cooling system. The rear cylinders suffer from a lack of coolant flow, and therefore, experience the highest coolant temperatures. This can cause excessive pressure to build in the system, especially the rear of the block and possibly blow out freeze plugs externally, or the smaller diameter plugs under the valve cover, leading to a failure. We’ve designed our coolant bypass kit with a secondary thermostat, that unlike other brands, works based on temperature instead of excessive pressure. This solves the problem before pressure becomes an issue by ensuring consistent temperatures across all six cylinders. Our kit comes with high quality AN o-ring fittings and AN hose connections with the braided hose to ensure a leak free installation.

I installed this kit in my 07 great product in theory and good quality. My experience was that rear plug was extremely difficult to access/remove with engine in the truck. The plug did NOT rotate, rather went frighteningly evenly into the engine even with a fine piont pick on the extreem edge. My only saving grace was #6 water jacket stopped it from falling in. Oh and the "heat exchanger" is actually referred to as a torque converter cooler wonder if it was intended to stop trans from melting down under the extreemest of conditions. Regardless the cooler has been known to fail subsequently, mixing coolant into transmission instantly destroying it. I feel the Fleece is the only coolant bypass worth buying despite hell to install but recommend closely monitoring trans temp when towing.

I'd say get the manual transmission one then buy a good aftermarket water to oil cooler & replace the stock transmission exchanger. Then run whatever you need to with new appropriate lines to make it work. Also I hope you know that the transmission needs to be in neutral to pump fluid & warm up.

HorsepowerTube higher boost= higher cylinder temps, which causes more heat transfer to coolant. The issue is that cylinders 5 and 6 receive less than adequate coolant flow causing pressure spikes around those cylinders which can push freeze plugs. Water pumps don’t create pressure only flow

Just installed the bypass while the head was off. Made the job a little easier. *warning* If you live in a warm climate like Northern California be prepared for much higher transmission temperatures in stop and go traffic or heavy towing at low speeds. Trans fluid coming off the converter in these situations is much higher than your coolant temperatures. When you eliminate the heat exchanger you loose cooling capacity. My truck had survived 280k miles without this product in the same conditions. Head gasket blew when my employee drove too long after the water pump went out. This product is definitely oversold and if you live in a warm climate you might have to drop another $1000 on a good frame mounted transmission cooler.

It is a block off plate for a location that a cam driven lift pump would mount for any applicable 5.9 engines.

Thoroughbred Diesel is there any necessity for that pump if you're running a fass?

No sir, it would have been used on the 12 valve early models for example.

My friends truck just blew the heat exchanger and it fucked the trans and cross cuntaminated into the engine block. Dodge sucks ball juice for making this type of system. Its a 6000$ repair bill. Get this bypass in immediately before this happens to your truck

Buy a ram with a Cummins engine, talk to Thoroughbred Diesel then upgrade everything on your engine and transmission.

I do not like that rear setup for a real thermostat... Thermostats fail I need to be replaced that would be a PITA to replace. Hellllllll no 🤣. If it was just a free flow I might think about it.
