Cool Story Bro (Acura Vigor) -ETCG1

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Sometimes I just want to work and not shoot any video. Well, when I tried to do that the other day, things didn't quite go as planned. What was suppose to be a 15min job, turned into an entire day of torture that wasn't much fun at all.
I may start a series of these called, "Cool Story Bro". If you like this one, let me know and I may do more.

A simple caveat to that though is when you are in the thick of it and you can't even see the tunnel you are trying to find the way out of NEVER, I mean NEVER EVER ask What Else Can Go Wrong for you will surely find out.

I've been there many times, infuriated beyond recognition. Something so simple turning so difficult in 0.5 seconds. It used to be really easy for me to lose my cool while working, particularly when fasteners don't want to come undone, but I noticed something after watching this video. I'm a lot calmer now, after having watched your videos for a while. I'm not sure why that is, but it's true. Learn by example, I suppose. And, as an added note, thank you for the content you provide. My father and I both enjoy watching you repair, review, or just talk about something in general.

I install sound systems, remote starters, security systems, all that good stuff professionally every day. Before I got my job, I didn't know much about cars. I knew more about the electrical aspect. So when I got a job dealing with them every day, you were my go-to KZreadr for information on the matter. Maybe it's your attitude in your videos, but you are genuinely a unique mechanic. The people I work with just complain about every little task like it's such a chore, but you treat them like a learning experience. When things go wrong, you stop, analyze the situation, employ a different method, and ALWAYS find another way. I use this same tactic when I'm working. When I have a problem, I think back to your videos and how you would handle it and it's saved me a world of trouble many times. Not just your tricks but your attitude keeps you working. You don't get worked up and let that stop you. So thank you for taking the time to record all these videos for us, you really are helping many many people. Hell, just the other day I was at work watching you and my coworker comes up and says "Hey, I've seen a few of that guys videos, good stuff". Oh, and thanks to cameraman Brian. His camerawork makes a world of difference compared to other DIY KZreadrs out there. Keep it up guys

Eric, in technology what you went though is called 'yak shaving'. You start by trying to fix a small issue. That makes you go look for a part. That leads to trying to find a tool. So on and so forth, and you end up out in a field shaving a yak. And you always learn from the experience. Mad props to you for going through the process on the Vigor. Sometimes you just jump down the rabbit hole with both feet and helping us understand the process better. As for those lovely highway runs....I used to do the one from Lafayette, IN to Cleveland a lot to visit a girl. 25 to 24 to 69 to 80. It was magical at night.

I think I speak for more than myself when I say we are digging these "storytime" style vids bro. I just finished replacing a power steering rack in a 93' Lexus ES300. I was sent the wrong part twice and then finally got sick of it and went through another merchant. Once I finally got down to doing the repair I must admit there were some explicit words flying around as I was trying to wiggle that thing in and out of there. Also, the Willy Wonka reference was gold lol.

Ahhhh! Cincy to Indy - THAT's a very cool drive, Eric! My late mother lived in Indianapolis, and my stepson was living with his father in Cincinnati. He decided that he wanted to move back home with his mom & me, so we drove down to get him and bring him back to Indy. Oh! Those rolling green hills and large rivers were So scenic - and relaxing. By the time we got back to Indy, I felt "decompressed". Of course, the four-star dinner we had hadn't hurt, either.

Hey Eric, I really enjoy watching your videos, perfect balance of humor while being very informative. I myself pride myself in being a backyard tinkerer using basic tools and knowledge I have learnt by getting my hands dirty under a bonnet over the years and very rarely does any of my cars see a professional garage, pretty much all the work done to my cars is carried out by myself. It is because of knowledgeable car people like you and many others sharing excellent maintenance and repair information that give confidence to others to work on their cars and learn to get better as they go along. P.S: how you describe your relationship with your Acura Vigor isnt too far from how I feel with my own '96 Nissan Almera 1.4 daily driver, it is a bit rough on the outside, but mechanically it is a very reliable and solid car and I like it that way ;) yeah sure it gets a little hate from my fellow car friends due to peoples different tastes in mods and the fact its a lowly old 1.4 but fudge 'em! XD Its practical, its dependable and it has after clocking over 202,000 miles this year, and yet it still motors on! Well that's an end to my cool story bro! and I keep stayin' dirty as long as you keep making great videos! slán!

I completely understand the love of the vigor, I used to work parts at an Acura dealership at a time. Had a goofy older gentleman who loved that car, and would frequent us in his Vigor for oil changes and service. That was always a real fun time digging through parts diagrams for that car, but would hopefully find what he needed and not discontinued. Now a'days I get excited when I see Vigors on the road, that and the Acura (Isuzu) SLX both are a rare find.

Ever since I started to be somewhat successful on YT, I can never go into my workshop without thinking about the "video opportunities" you were talking about. Great video - have been there many times as my wife can attest. If she hears a certain set of words from the garage, she know something is not going well. She will also remark that a particular job went well by the low number of choice words. The video also touch on a subject that I often wondered about. How does one juggle so many tasks like taking video, editing video, uploading that video in addition to staying focused on the task at hand which the repair of the car. You have set the bar high on this one. You need not feel bad in that you sought to "just have fun in your garage" and not take video. This is okay. You started the channels to teach and share car repair and if you were to begin worrying more about taking the video than car repair that could be bad. We all need to charge our batteries from time to time and this leads to better quality videos and a better Eric in the end.

Enjoyed this video a lot, I hear what your saying about your little fix with the rubber hose, being a mechanic myself I always have "none mechanic" friends pointing out stuff I "shouldn't do" all the time and it's got to the point when I'm working on my own car I now shut myself away and if someone turns up I stop.

+EricTheCarGuy yes there probably the worst, I did join a car forum for the fords I like (here in the uk) but everytime I tried to help people or give advice they asked I was shot down in flames by the "forum mechanics" so I gave the forum a miss. The worst thing we're experiencing at work at the moment (u may like this for your channel) is the amount of people coming into the garage when your working on there vehicle trying to tell you that they've been on these forums and people say we should be doing this, that and the other differently, they even come in with printed bits of paper off the forum!! I know there's some good knowledgeable guys out there on forums but to go into a garage and start telling the mechanics the people on the forums say you should do it like this is insane. I've noticed it escalating in the past year or two and now there even turning up with the car to book it in Having already been on loads of forums and telling us what parts to fit!

I feel you Eric, I have a 00 4Runner that i tried to change simple sway bar bushing and having nuts and bolts break and trying to remove them. Thats the worst. When you're working on your car and it bites you in your ass. you feel so defeated but at the same time at the end, when everything is running. It kind of makes it worth the trouble. :D Take it easy, awesome video. Wish you the best. From Vancouver!

Replaced that gasket few months back when it became a steady flow... then decided it might be time to replace all those vacuum & water hoses while I was there, so removed the manifold. You know, one of those jobs you think why did I have this idea. Anyway, all back together and another Vigor with no oil leaks out here in New Zealand. The injuries have healed.

I do just want to say, I appreciate that you don't include profanity in your videos. I don't mind it if you want to talk like that yourself, but I don't want to hear it. Aside from the fact that it doesn't seem very professional to me. I digress. I enjoy your videos, helps me to understand more about cars, so when my car has problems I can understand more about what it is. I don't do the work, but my dad was a shop mechanic for years, so to understand what he is talking about on some things is nice. Thanks Eric

Eric, on some days you should just set a GoPro in the corner and just do whatever and just quickly edit it just to add bleeps and speed up boring parts. I think it would quickly become a popular and easy mini-series for ETCG1. It could be called *"ETCG VS."* I'm usually a VERY calm person, but one of the few things that sometimes makes me really angry is working on uncooperative stuff. XD

I always get a nice bottle of single malt Scotch for my mechanic after big repairs. We just finish putting a new AC compressor and a new radiator on my 2005 Volvo XC 70. After a test drive to check that everything was working, I made a trip to Costco to get a bottle of Glenfiddich.
