Had this table for about 5 years and it is equal parts bad and good. The good is the amazing ability to cut metals of all types up to about 20mm thick and the clever way it carriage is integrated. The fence is also surprisingly stable and quite solid and it's fairly light and easily transportable. The bad is that although the top at a glance looks cast its not and its not particularly level either. The carriage although clever doesn't run very true and I have had to Shim mine out to make, it glide without any wobble The measure guide I have Never used nor the extension piece I just tape from the blade to the fence (usually more accurate in any case) the extensions are a little weak but I have manged to use the right hand side extension to house a quite beefy router with no real issues. All in all not a bad attempt and can produce accurate cuts as long as you are careful setting it up properly. Forgot to add the aluminium fence is made quite thin and needs a decent ply face to make more it solid and durable

I bought this mitre saw in June 2014, and I remodeled my basement with it. It it sturdy and it works great kzread.infoUgkxKL3MYO42eA2JbKxs7_Q0tmRGZI4Ow4Ar . There's not a lot of extra play in the adjustments and it is definitely well built. It is lighter than higher-end sliding double bevel models, so I can move it myself, which is nice. When I had to cut 2x10 lumber, I had to flip the boards over and cut twice; but since most of my cutting was on smaller dimension lumber, the weight reduction and significantly lower price seemed to be a better trade off for the boards I did have to flip. Late in the project, I was able to borrow a DW718, and the sliding feature does make fast work of 2x10s, but it is a tank, and I stand by my choice of the DW715. I also added a laser guide (one of the arbor replacement style sold on Amazon), which is nice to have, but definitely not needed.

I’ve had my Rage5S for about 4 years and can offer the following: 1. The blade guard is rubbish and I never use it (riving knife stays in of course) 2. The smaller fence is a waste of time and I never use it. I do use the holes in the fence and thumb screws to hold a sacrificial fence 3. I have built my saw into a cabinet so the rails remain fully extended and are rock solid (as such I have added a separate tape) 4. The fence can be adjusted so it locks paralllel Thank you for the review. It’s good to see how others find the saw. Cheers 👍😎🇦🇺

I'm a fan of the Rage 5S. It is far from perfect, but it has allowed me to make some great items, despite being a woodworking newbie. It probably doesn't suit the DIYer who expects everything to be working perfectly out of the box, but if you are happy to adjust the blade and check that the fence is at 90º, it does an amazing job for the price. That said, I had to dismantle and file down the aluminium on the fence as it had been extremely poorly made, the blade insert is way too flexible (Evolution now sell an improved insert), and there is way too much play in the mitre sled, so a crosscut sled is a must.

I've had this saw for about 3 years. For the price it's a good saw. If you just need to rip pieces of lumber or flooring, it's great - did a couple of home projects where this saw was used for ripping wood all day and it was great. If that's all you want your table saw to do, stop reading here. But... it's just imprecise. The blade wobbles side to side when you raise/lower it, and the angle can drift when you raise and lower it. You have to check your blade angle every time you raise or lower the blade. Build a sled, make your first cut, square up the fence, raise the blade to cut your material and... the blade is in a different spot side-to-side than it was on your first cut. But the biggest issue is the miter slots. They're not the "standard" 3/4 x 3/8 size, they're weird. The miter gage is loose in the slots. Since they're not standard, you can't easily replace the runner. Lock the miter gage to the sliding table (after you spend half an hour truing it up) and there's still some wiggle. My saw's miter slots vary in width from front to back, so if you cut runners for a sled, they're either going to bind in one spot or they're going to be loose in another spot. ***AND*** the miter slots are not parallel to each other. You cannot make a sled that has runners in both slots and have it run smooth -it's either going to bind or there's going to be some wobble.

Good review, I bought this saw after having the 255mm compound sliding mitre saw and loving it. I was dissapointed at the potentially dangerous inacuracy of the fence but for the money, especially as I got it on a sale, I am happy with it. If I was using it every day, or even every week, I would deffinitely look for something more solid with better build quality.

I was actually on evolutions website looking to buy the R185CCSX track saw with the extension kit and it was gonna cost 278.00 plus tax and I ended up buying this table saw instead because it was only 100.00 more and I got the R185CCSX saw without the track for free which I couldn't pass up since I'm remodeling a mobile home. I like you was in it for the metal cutting capability. So I know have 2 of these great blades. Just put the table saw together last night and it wasn't so bad only thing I had questions about was the calibration which lead me here. Great video, I appreciate your detail. I now know how to make sure my blade is straight and how to adjust and set up the fence correctly even though the instructions do explain it, I have never owned a table saw before so it was a little hard to understand with more than one "0" on the measuring tape the black one and orange one. My only dislikes really are the fence of course but mainly that extremely wobbly blade guide but if I don't use it I don't have the saw dust collection option. I actually watched your first video where you skipped over the installation of the blade guard leading me here where you covered it. Glad I found your channel you seem to have lots of videos I will enjoy binge watching. Tools, tools and tools I love them. By the way on mine the side that stores the push stick is made to hold the miter gauge. The round foot fits into the slot just under the push blade in the very middle. Screw it out all the way and it slides right in there. The way it fits makes me think this is what it's for and if not we'll it still works pretty well for it so check it out. I did have one issue from rhe start right outta the box which i think theh should change which is already having the scews with tiny lock washer and washer installed on the extension. My box was in pretyy rough shape when UPS dropped it off so since the very first step was zero out and line up rear extension flush then adjust ride height i came across the problem of one of the screws had rattled loose and fell out, leaving only the metal square peice it threads into. So i was in dead water on step one. But after deciding to move on and assemble tbe rest and contact evolution later, i flipped the unit over and out fell the screw along with the washer so i just used a tiny lock washer just the same size I happened to already have. Crisis diverted but i think they need to just keep all the hardware together in a bag for this reason. I also didnt like the amount of play the miter gauge had in the track so a quick fix was to flip it over and place a strip of gorilla tape making sure to cut of a hole for the set screw which works pretty well. Overall for the price I paid for what I got Im not complaining. I feel like its a better than average first time buyers table saw. For those of us who cant afford Festool. Got a new subscriber now so thank you. Going to go watch some more of your videos now. Keep up the great content.

Really wish I'd seen this video 3 days ago. I literally just finished putting mine together today. Although I agree with every single assessment and opinion you have, I must say that this saw is better than the amputation/mutilation/death machine that is my Ryobi table saw (that piece of garbage is basically an upside down circular saw with a piece of scrap metal as a fence). I used my evolution to tune up some boards for a cutting board glue up. It's no DeWalt, but it seemed to make okay joints. I'm perpetually terrified of getting my teeth knocked out by a bad kick back, so I'm glad you pointed out how the extenders can make the fence out of square. This seems to just be a testament to the "cry once, buy once" idea....I should have just sucked up a little more overtime and gotten a solid DeWalt, or remortgaged my house for a SawStop.

Thank you for an honest review. I’m admiring your open minded approach. Fully agree with the conclusion. Unfortunately market is full of such crap. I have bought a similar design Bosch PTS10 some 12 years ago. Has the same siding feed table and even worse fence (upgraded recently but still poor). What is more shocking even their professional range is the same just in blue color and few hundred more. There is almost nothing to choose from. Except Dewalt that in my opinion has it all right especially thanks to the rack and pinion fence and build quality. Almost matches much more expensive cabinet saws. Anyway Evolution excels in blades. I own their 14” metal chop saw. The earlier model without quick slide clamp. Cuts steel like butter. Even massive pieces. But the quality is so poor! You can’t rely on the scale for accuracy. Had to make my own jig for setting 90 and 45 degree cuts. Absolutely horrible.

Well done. An honest and fair review. Great features, but unfortunately lacking in quality. I expect a lot of watchers will like the miter sled; however, it's not really a new concept. It's actually very reminiscent of my 1st table saw the Ryobi BTS15. The BTS15 was made by (Blue) Ryobi way back, and used a miter panel that was interchangeable with a regular flat table panel. Unfortunately, neither of the panels had integrated miter slots. Nor was there a miter slot on the fence side. The only way to cut a miter was with the sled function. That saw was a scary beast, because it didn't have a riving knife. It had a splitter and pawls as part of the bladed guard, which would move due to the way it was mounted. When the guard was removed, there was no kickback prevention mechanism at all. That said, it served me well for around 25 years, until I upgraded to a Rigid contractor saw, then to the Delta 36-725T2. Oddly, I sometimes miss the old BTS15 in a "So glad the damned thing is gone" kinda way. It's pretty cool that Evolution incorporated the sled, but found a way to include miter slots. Too bad the rest of the saw falls short in the QC department.

I appreciate your efforts and giving this an evaluation. Personally when you buy any lower end price tool you're going to have challenges that are either easy to deal with or they amount to so much that the price compromise isn't sufficient to justify the lack of quality. Personally for 50 years of using table saws I've never trusted the measure scale on the saw rails. I was taught to pull a tape and that's what I do. Even with high end saws and fences that cost as much as the saw. Only once did I get bullied into using one. When I worked in a small shop with a man who was umm crazy. Border personality defect. I could never please him even though my work was good enough to sell for thousands of dollars and good enough for him to say he made it. Oh well life is too short. Anyway he insisted that I trust the fence scale. Which I only did while he was looking. Too me, I want to do my set up with the same tool I measured the section or size of wherever the piece is going to fit. That way deferences in the scale and measuring tool doesn't matter. Clearly we all work differently, typically out of experience and training, so our comfort level comes from that. Hey whatever works best for you and whoever. Good video, I did like some of the features of the saw. However they're execution seems unreliable to me.

It seems like all these different saws purposely have certain great features to draw you in but then combine these great features with glaring flaws that you are supposed to overlook due to the advantages. It is not by accident that all of these great features have not been assimilated into a single saw. The sawstop story alone tells us a lot about the inadequacies of the industry. Like right now I’m really wanting to get the jobsite skilsaw with the great motor, cart, and rack/ pinion fence. But it combines these aspects with glaring flaws such as crappy plastic parts and floating motor carriage blade angle adjustment.

I have the same saw for 3 years in the UK, it's not perfect but fine for the money. I've actually just gone out and had a look to see if the table extensions can side on mine, and yes if you hit it it will move, I cut my hand trying :). Having said that it's never caused a problem in the pass, may be it because I always measure and not use the scale. I don't use the little addon to fence, but overall the fence works ok. I do take my time and measure 3 or 4 times, (to make up for my lack of skill) so it works ok for me. I guess if I needed something more robust and I could bang stuff through it quickly I be paying a bit more, but for £300 it's fine

Thanks for the great review. After your previous video and the stellar customer service you received I was curious if the saw would be similar level of quality, especially after seeing so much plastic in the initial review. I did get a laugh on the Ridgid fence comparison. I have the R4512 and at that time was upgrading from a lower end Craftsman jobsite saw so a huge step up for me. Saw still runs great but the fence does leave something to be desired, although I've adjusted to its shortcomings. If I had to replace the saw I'd probably go with the newer iteration R4560, which I guess is supposed to be similar to the Delta one you have. Is the fence any better on the newer models? If not, with a new saw I'd probably invest in after-market fence.

  • @ProjectsForAllReviews

The after market fence would benefit your Ridgid for sure but the Delta/R4560 fence is amazing. It locks at 3 wide points on the front square rail only and if adjust properly is practically impossible to lock crooked. Check out my Delta vid I go into some detail. My saw had its own small shortcomings but the fence isn’t one of them. Glad to hear your Ridgids been good. I’ve had a few comments about the 4512 from satisfied long term owners. Is it possible Ridgid screwed up the newer one? Mine said “new and improved” on the box. If I see a cheap 4512 on marketplace I may grab it for a vid. Thanks for the comment!

This saws going back to Evolution. I can’t in good conscience sell it second hand if the fence walks when used. We are definitely getting the dual bevel sliding miter saw. It takes the same exact blade. Hopefully it’ll have no issues to focus on and we can just cut a ton with it. Thanks for watching!

I have this saw...for about 2 months now. Only used it a few times on a job. The fence is GARBAGE!. I had the same high hopes for it. But it's terrible. Just bought the Hercules saw....still in the box. That is now getting returned because I didn't realize you couldn't do full 3/4" dados until I saw your review. UGH. That is going back and I just ordered the larger Skill 10" saw you reviewed. I appreciate your efforts.

I just bought a rusty delta contractor saw which was a total mistake, even for $50. It’s old and rusty and probably missing pieces. I don’t know what i was thinking. I’m going to clean up the rust and toss it back on marketplace and scoop something newer. Wont be an evolution saw. Maybe the dewalt jobsite saw. A bunch if those show up used for a discount. Maybe a newer better kept delta if i can find one under $500

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the depth of the track that the mitre gauge slides in. It is not standard. You can't use a higher quality after market gauge...it wont fit. This also creates problems if you try to make use of custom slides when building sleds etc.

Gah! This is so frustrating! I've been fighting with a Ridgid R4513 and it's stupid fence for years now, and was so hoping they wouldn't repeat its mistakes with this. I'd even overlook the weird scale thing and general wonkiness if it had a good reliable fence, but not having that that's a deal-breaker for me. I have a cold cut chop saw for cutting steel and aluminium and absolutely love it. It would have been great to have that ability in a table saw. Ah well. Thanks for the review

Rack and pinion with a slide crosscut side would be sick. It reminds me of the old Ryobi BT3000, a super solid modular saw with a sliding crosscut sled. The evolution has so much potential. I wish they'd update it though. It's been out for a few years and everyone has the same complaints. If they redesigned it a bit and made it more solid and refined, they could sell this thing for even more and people would still buy it. Hate to see it hindered and set back by poor design choices because it's got a lot going for it.

This is my understanding: On bigger professional table saws (panel saws) it is possible and recommended to push back the fence, so it does not cover the complete blade. This should avoid that the cutted material can get stuck between blade and fence, escecially when doing long, long rip cuts in solid wood, as this can twist and bend right during the cut. Or avoid small pieces to get in contact with the upcoming backside of the blade so easily and is pushed back. As the fence here is clamping on both sides and has to go all the way across the table, this "rip fence face plate" simulates the above. (And of course helps with cutting smaller parts, as those panel saw fences (from above) often can be flipped from high to low profile) But here we find another tiny show stopper at the evolution (I own one): If you push back this "rip fence face plate" following their manual it hangs over and could interfere with the too wide handle of the main fence.

The sliding miter isn't a new Idea. In Canada here; I have a Mastercraft table saw that I've had for about 12 years or so that has this feature. the issue with that is - there is left to right play in the sliding table, and the gauge only fits into the front of the table, there is no slot to slide it forward and back - or to allow for a custom sled. I recently have tried to tighten up the sloppiness of the sled with ok results - but it's not perfect. Wondering if anyone is using this sliding deck design and how they find it in day to day use. Considering going with the Skil just to get a standard table top (the rack and pinion is obviously an nice bonus too).

Hi Mike, I have just seen a review of a brand new Evolution table saw ( R255TBL+ reviewed on Small Barn Workshop channel - a Brit guy that lives in south west France ) that is very close to Skil tablesaw as well as the Erbauer's one. Looks like it's coming out of the same factory in China. Unlike the Rage 5, it has a rack and pinion fence. It has no folding legs but a troley ( optional ) similar to the Skilsaw one. This review does not mention details such as - arbor size : It's Evolution's 25.4 mm weird size : It's a pity as standard 30 mm bore would allow more blade choices. Is the waranty still valid with blades other than Evolution's ones ?. Are the rpm of the blades lower than the one of Skill or Erbauer to be able to cut metal and does this rotation speed gives neat cuts such as skil or Erbauer ? I beleive it would be worth a Mike's detailed review if of course this new saw is available in the US. Here in France, it should be available just after easter. PS : New review of this tablesaw on Woodwork Journey channel released today

The 1 inch arbor hole on all the blades makes it a little tough though. This saw had an included arbor adapter I show in the vid. 5/8 to 1 inch. Google searching for an adapter didn’t produce many promising results. Possible you can just buy an adapter from Evolution. I’m going to research this more. May be a future vid topic. Watching the way everything twists, bends, and flexes as you move it around is not inspiring any confidence at all. If they would make the same saw, but replace many of the plastic parts with metal and just make it beefier overall, they could easily charge a few hundred bucks more for it and it would still be a great deal. The sliding table sure would make straightening and paralleling board edges awful quick and easy. Since I don't have a jointer, that would be great for me.

Evolution contacted me after this vid and they’re supposed to be sending the 10 inch dual slider and 7-1/4 battery chop saws for review. They look nice and better than this table saw. Thanks for watching!

Shipping to return this saw was $280 and I still have it. Expect another vid with it fixing its various issues. I'll make that saw not suck or die trying!! Thanks for watching!!

If this is the only blade they want you to use with the saw, I see zero reason it shouldn't come with a zero-clearance insert. That one thin cutoff dropping into it was not good to see. That fence is just inexcusable if Skil could copy the DeWalt rack and pinion design at the same price. I think ultimately though, if I wanted to have a multipurpose tool for free-hand/miter/fence-based metal cutting, I'd do it in the bandsaw instead of a table saw. No risk of kickback on that.

I agree with you, band saw is the way to go. We’ll get this saw in another vid soon. Im going to fix that thing or die trying! Thanks for watching!

I bought this table saw a few weeks ago after watching loads of great reviews on KZread, but I would agree there are some quality issues, mine arrived almost a week late direct from Evolution [promised next day delivery], when I opened the box there were loose nuts, bolts and washers rattling around in the box, luckily it was easy to find where they had fallen from and they were not part of the setup process so should not have been loose. The right hand extension plate had a dint and rust under the paint in one corner. The build instructions are poor and Evolutions own video is almost as bad, way too fast, changing camera angles and mistakes like forgetting to put the 4 washers between the undercariage and the frame shouldn't happen. Before I started the motor I had a good check around and noticed the blade was catching the dust collection guard, after some photos and email to Evolution they said the plastic was warped and sent me out a new part to fit, it now seems fine. I think for average DIY usage the table saw is decent, but you will need to constantly check everything is adjusted correctly, being table to fold up the table for storage is a good if you haven't a huge workshop.

I never watch other people’s vids before I do a review. However it is interesting to watch some reviews after I do mine. Especially on a odd product like this one. Odd design. Dubious quality control but with some useful design elements. I had planned to sell this to a friend but not being able to lock the fence tight is going to force a return. Sad because I really wanted to love this thing. Good luck with yours. Thanks for watching!!

There's worse TS's out there. Some fences can't be locked on both ends. Looks like a 'hard start' motor as well although that wasn't mentioned. It is I think intended for the hobbyist or DIY market and as such the safety angle should be doubly reinforced because beginners make big mistakes. You have to be doubly careful with any table saw.

too many pieces to machine it right. more adjustability equals more error... keep it simple is the key of great tools.

Yep! Especially if your going to build it to a low price point. At $650 made for pros it could have been one of the best saws on the market. Thanks for watching!

LOL but hey, what about that cool miter fence??! Actually, it WAS very cool. Dewalt take note. I've been woodworking 4 about a year and a half. I picked Dewalt as my 1st table saw b/c I really didn't know what I was doing, and I figured a well-known and respected brand was a safe bet. Thank Gawd I didn't go with something just b/c it was cheap. I would have been very confused and discouraged. Imagine trying 2 explain the problems I was having with this strange and unique saw. It would have been a disaster. I would have hated it, and would have quit this hobby that I love just out of pure frustration. Newbies, Start off on the right foot. For your 1st large power tools, pay the extra $, and go with the known & established brands. U won't regret it.

This makes me sad. They make such innovative stuff for us, BUT they will always have these small things that make their tools overlooked. I own their 9" metal curcular saw, 10" miter saw, 14" metal miter saw, and 14-inch chop saw. their chop saw is the best on the market the 10" miter saw is kind of like your table saw. Just too much plastic, too many thinner materials. BUT I will stand by certain things they make. I really wanted this saw for aluminum and thin steel sheets. But there is just too much that needs an update on that saw

The 10" DB miter saw is a very good saw just wish it had less plastic pieces. It will make a dust mess even with a good vacuum. I use makita blades when eating through wood (so easy for it) I use evolution or tenryu blades for metal. Mk Morse makes good metal cutting blades too

I have that 10 inch dual bevel slider in the shop now waiting for it’s review. For years I’ve wanted to buy that one for myself to get rid of my old Ryobi miter saw and Ridgid 14 inch abrasive chopper. We shall see, I’m still hoping it’s serviceable! Thanks for watching!

I am not a negative person at all. That being said, I find what I see from this saw is a cheaply made saw. I would rather pay a few dollars more and buy even the lower quality saws over this one. This saw has its place, and honestly for someone who cannot afford a much better saw, then this becomes a perfect solution.
