You do not get representation in IL, Crook County and Chicago. All are ruled by a single party regime like Communist China. The GOP does not exist in the land of Lincoln. Kinzinger and alike are Democrats by any policy standard.

That's why there so many abandon property's

They act like homelessness is not already a huge issue.

Property tax is more than my yearly income! I could not afford to live in Chicago. Nor would I ever want to live there. But If I did live in Chicago it would be me in a tent. Chicago fix this who is in charge over at that assessment office? No, it is not ok to tax old people out of homes they worked all their life to pay off only to have it stolen by the assessor's office.

yes, where does that money come from? I can't imagine anyone new to this country able to afford 4000.00 or more for rent. Know Chicago is too rich for my income. just stunned here in Arkansas.

This happened in 2017. i was told that most people fot 100% of increase and i got lucky it was only 37%

No that's what the American Dream does. Democrats, Republicans and beyond. This is how you kick businesses out of the State.

Who "undervalued" the property? Was it not the county assessor's office? These places are no more valuable today than they were a couple years ago. These "values" are increasing because our money is worth less. We're going to have $1,000 bank notes again before too long, but we won't get rid of pennies, because that's all most of us will have.

New system is linked to Zillow and other home buyers and sellers sites. Another nail in the coffin for retirees and working class. Crook count predict 1 B in revenue. Somebody has to pay for illegals housing, welfare, phones, and 3K “ stipend” per month

@@RacecarSpelledBackwards71 Texas has been red and will remain red long before and after me. IL is a red state too, it's only Champaign Urbana and Chicago that vote blue and swing vote blue. Why should I abandon a state whose landmass is 95% red? Since when does Chicago control the whole state of IL?

I'm a Texan, a very red state & property costs & taxes have skyrocketed here, as well. This has to do with loss of industry & developers & 200 other things that have nothing to do with the Democratic Party.

These assessors are super crooked. It's a racket!

How many tax increases did those people vote for in the past ? . They've created a monster. I never vote for tax increases even if it will benefit me. The money will go 3x as far in the private sector. But special short term thinking interests love freebies.

Almost everybody in IL, Crook and Chicago vote Democrat, therefore vote for higher taxes. Anybody who vote blue has zero rigth to complaint.

What was amendment 1? Someone tell me. I do not live in this state. My nephew lives there he recently told me what he pays in property tax. I was shocked. He seems to take it in stride.

They want the homeowners to leave and sell them to landlords who will charge 2k a month for tiny apartments. They don't want homeowners there. But the city will crumble

No. The economy & such lessened it. It's not nearly as bad as in the 1990s & you know it. Crime has to be prevented & there are zero measures in place to do that. And perception is not reality.

It just shows how much money Cook County is leaving on the table. The lady with the $143 tax bill has been getting a steep discount on her property taxes for who knows how long. No wonder the county is broke.

Not really. Here in Texas & most states I know of people get an over 65 exemption or reduced rate. The lady doesn't live in a prime area, her house isn't fancy, so she shouldn't pay enormous tax bills

You think the county assessors office has deliberately been undervaluing/discounting county property? Who's giving the discount? Who undervalued the property? The county is broke because of the stacks of welfare checks and rivers of social programs, including the failing management of sanctuary policies. Money doesn't actually grow on trees, this isn't the federal gov't here. Democrats are all about spending money, and outspending revenues. That's why the county is broke. They certainly are foolish, but not so foolish to leave money on the table, esp. when it comes to commercial real-estate.

She worked all her life to pay off that property. She lives on a limited income. Should all retirees move from their homes that took a lifetime to pay off? What is wrong with you @wanglelife your thinking is off in my opinion. Perhaps someone needs to control spending on the city budget. or is there a budget? Sounds like you do not worry about homelessness in your town.

@@volitionspark2686 Yes, Cook County has both a senior exemption as well as a homeowner's exemption. It's $8,000 and $10,000 off of the Equalized Assessed Value of the home, respectively. According to the Cook County Assessor's Office FAQ, for a property that's worth $100,000 market value, The normal tax would be $2,339. With both Senior and Homeowners exemption applied, the owner still owes $899. It is still more than 6 times what this lady is paying.

@@Bobcat9 I don't think it's deliberate. I think the assessors office / treasurer's office, etc are severely understaffed and are working with very antiquated technology. From personal experience, it took me months to get a bill so that I could pay some taxes I owed them. That's with 3-4 calls to follow up.
