This is an excellent explanation with traditional splicing material. If you want to safe time I recommend trying the new generation of vulcanizing material Multiface, which allow reducing the process time after preparation to half time. As it is already liquid and achieves the sulfur crosslink at ambient temperature you need only 2-3 bars pressure and less waiting time before restarting the belt. If necessary you can also use a heating foil, in order to restart the belt in less than 30-45 minutes after applying.

Minimum length of your joint should be equal to or more than its width for example your belt is 650mm in width so your joint length should be minimum 650mm. And length of each steps depends upon number of plys in your conveyor Belt

If you are hot vulcanising I use 200mm steps and bigger if belts are longer then 500mtrs
