Convert Manfrotto Ball head to take both Manfrotto and Arca Swiss Plates

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I show you how to convert your Manfrotto Ball Head using the Sunwayfoto MAC-14 Plate.
This allows you to use both the Manfrotto PL200 plate and also Arca Swiss plates found on most L brackets.
I also show you if you need an adaptor bush for the conversion.
Check out this link for a list of Manfrotto Ball heads that need the adaptor bush.

NB MAC-14 HAS BEEN UPDATED TO THE NEW MAC-15.
It is basicly the same but has some cutaways to reduce weight, its use and fitment is the same as the MAC-14

@@deancooperphotography2896 A couple of questions Dean. You mentioned the Sunway Photo MAC-14. What is your opinion on the replacement plate that Manfrotto makes? Is one better than the other? Do you know if both of them will take the Manfrotto camera plate and the Arca Swiss plate? Thanks.

@@deancooperphotography2896 In looking at the Manfrotto site, it does appear that they do. A little more expensive and it looks from your video that the Sunway Photo one has some markings and such on it that may be helpful. I will do some more research before buying one, but I really appreciate your video. I have an old Manfrotto tripod with the RC4 plate (which is really bulky). I am looking to switch everything over to Arca Swiss.

I just adapted a manfrotto 484RC2 and . 410 geared head to Arca Swiss by fitting clamps to the quick release plates, Very easy and can still use the manfrotto plates, The 410 adaptor is to expensive my way was a 1/3 the price.

Yes you can do it that way, and a good one when you can't remove the top of the head.

Hello, Great Video! Is it possible to somehow connect the Manfrotto 323 Quick Release (Lever one) to the raised ballhead? I have been looking around the internet and I only keep finding guides and explanations (such as this one) on converting the Manfrotto heads to be Arca Swiss compatible and not the other way around. Would love to know if you know something!

Dean - I brought two conversion sets last year from you and it worked wonders for my 496 ballhead but I have been unable to adapt it to my 486 ballhead as I cannot find the top screw for me to use an allen key. Looks like a solid stick. Any suggestions on how to remove the necessary top part??

Hey Dean, I like to shoot tethered so I bought both an Tethertools tetherblock and an Area51 tether block to keep my cables from pulling out and damaging my camera's ports. However neither are compatible with my Manfrotto tripod heads. Will this solve the problem? Both tetherblocks are arca swiss compatible.

@@deancooperphotography2896 Thank you for the video. I am intrigued. What are the advantages of this over the Ball Head and Quick Release Plate? Also, the links in your description do not work. I have a BHQ2 XPRO Ball Head. It's at home now so I can't open it up to see if I need an adapter or not. I'm in Australia.

@@sajeeladameonwildsugar5698 Hi, the big advantage is the 99% of L brackets are arca swiss, so if you want to use an L bracket (which I highly recomend) then you are a bit stuck with Manfrotto as they won't work. The other situation is if you have a couple of different tripods, most brands will use Arca Swiss QR system where Manfrotto have their own so you find you have to swap out the QR plates to use both. With this conversion you can use both without changing any plates. I will fix that link, I did some upgrades on my website and moved that page, thanks

Not sure about that head, you would need it in hand. If you cant remove the top plate then you can always just screw the MAC-14 onto the Manfrotto PL200 plate as a workaround. Works fine is just a bit bulkier than replacing the top plate.

Thanks for letting us know. This conversion is restricted to Manfrotto heads that take the PL200 QR plate only. I did a google search of the RC4882 but nothing came up, is that model of the head or is it a head/leg combo ? Cheers
