Conversations with Hugh Dancy of HANNIBAL

Ойын-сауық

Q&A with Hugh Dancy of HANNIBAL.
The dark and haunting series "Hannibal" returns for a second season with more shocking revelations and psychological cat and mouse games. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is locked in a mental asylum accused of Hannibal Lecter's crimes (Mads Mikkelsen). Now that Will sees Hannibal for what he truly is, he faces a fight to prove his own sanity and convince those closest to him he is innocent of murder. Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) is dealing with his own feelings about Will and whether his protégé is in fact a cold-blooded killer. Looking for answers, Jack turns to Hannibal, a man he has come to trust. With Will locked up, Hannibal becomes Jack's new consultant on cases. Hannibal is torn between self-preservation and his desire to keep Will close to him, despite advice from his psychiatrist, Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson), to stay away.
The deadly dance between these characters continues to turn in startling and unexpected ways, in a season that will show that nothing can ever be the same again.

Hugh not only spoke about the internal process of acting but it resembles how we approach situations in our day-to-day life. Also, he is beautiful to look at.

will may not be on the autistic spectrum and rather uses that as more of a simplistic explanation of his own character instead of being labelled as a narcissist or sociopath but for Bryan fuller to have unequivocally said his is not autistic because he is the opposite of autism is frankly wrong and shows his lack of knowledge for the disorder as he refers to him not being autistic because he has an abundance of empathy, when we know people with autism have shed loads of empathy, often more than non autistic people and for Bryan to dismiss this is borderline ableist

I don’t know much about autism and the spectrum, but my understanding of what Bryan fuller meant was that autistic people have difficulty relating to other people or expressing themselves in a way that’s easy for other people to understand, and will’s problem is the opposite. Will finds it far too easy to empathise so he fakes autistic characteristics to try and keep his own self separate from the others he absorbs just by being around other people. He could use his skills to become incredibly charming and a master con-artist but he instead chose to reject humanity, which is dangerous sounding and also not the standard autistic experience. I don’t think Bryan fuller was saying autistic ppl don’t have empathy for others, I think it was in an interview and he needed a short-hand for “relates to people too hard, but can also detach from that in a way that might be viewed as unhealthy and creepy” and maybe also wanted to make it clear that being autistic is not what makes Will perfect for Hannibal and potentially a crazy killer. Poor choice of words on-the-fly, rather than any intent to be insulting, but that’s just my interpretation. I can’t remember where it was mentioned either sorry.

@@animemangalover94 he's still wrong tho. Cause many autistic people are like Will in that they feel TOO MUCH empathy. A lot of us including myself are empaths, to the point of having excessive debilitrating empathy.

He was referring to John Douglas (one of the pioneer FBI profilers, who was struck by encephalitis) but I think Hugh's mistaken if he thinks Douglas invented profiling. Profiling criminals began much earlier.
