Hey climate guys- Earth warms and ice caps melt- 1.Billionaires will find their beach front mansions under water-new beach is inland where poor people live- billionaires must pay poor people huge amounts for the beach property- hooray for wealth redistribution 2. Sea levels rise- whale habitat increases- and their population expands- Yay for whales 3. More ocean means more fish which means more seafood for the poor - Go poor people!! 4. Expansion of sea surface means more rainfall and more fresh water-Down with droughts!! 5. More rainfall means deserts across the globe become arable farmland and we have a huge surplus of low cost food- great for previously starving, but now overweight Africans. 6. melted glaciers mean Siberia, N. Canada, Antarctica, Greenland and Iceland are now open for people to move and live there- Yes to homesteading. 7. Huge reserves of oil and natural gas are discovered under Antarctica- oil becomes cheaper than water- Mid east oil is no longer important and conflicts cease- Save the Camels!!

One of the reasons I am very questioning of GMOs is, farmers in canada having to destroy their crops because GMO seeds have blown onto there fields and corporations claim a theft has been committed. If it is just about helping people then ok grow away, but it is not. This issue is about taking control of a staple of life, food. Address this issue and I will support it.

How did I miss this? Why NOW? The first time I have met this wise man, albeit only vicariously on the interweb. All the points he has raised, I was taught at primary school, in 1952 to 54. Has the world forgotten these truths? Its not called "The carbon Cycle" because it sounds pretty. By the time I got to High School as a 13 year old, and completed my first year, started learning to think, it was even MORE obvious, as we groped our way through the mists, learning the terms in use. The end result? Why are people arguing about this? Can taxing us alter the climate? The only way to do THAT, is to pay off the ONE climate driver. THE SUN!!!!

Moore is a paid shill for corporate interests. Just because he was in Greenpeace for 5 years doesn't make him a saint and he's definitely not a scientist. He downplays global warming and even juggles dates and numbers to argue that we saved the planet with CO2. He's a joke. Too bad so many suckers fall for his BS just because they really want to hear good news.

There is the legal problem that GMO crops tend to spread their genes to the neighbor's field with the same non-GMO crop but next year their seeds are not allowed because of GMO genes in the new crop. Monsanto then sues the neighbor for steeling GMO property. Another problem is that the success of GMO in the third world is so overwhelming everybody signs-up for the new stuff. But many local crops are so local that they are unique and when lost because of total replacement there is no way back. Then the GMO is suddenly 2-3 times more expensive and the local farmers are not savvy enough to see all legal and financial consequences of GMO seed monopoly. If Monsanto sees only half a case they sue you and the legal team has endless resources. So no I don't oppose to GMO but they tend to employ crops that have had substantial modification through breeding techniques and it was always possible to use these crops as starting material for experiments to get even new properties. The seeds or plants are for sale and their genus is property to sell to other farmers but it is not like a patent. It is more like public property. But no Monsanto takes these highly cultivated varieties and makes them GMO and claims patent. If they would start with a wild original and change that to any GMO to call it their property I would agree but this is snatching from a public sharing system and it undermines the sharing principal.

This is pretty good but one point... it's not intellectually honest to say temperatures have been flat for 20 years or whatever. When I take a look at the data, invariably and for some unknown reason, the chosen starting point is typically an outlier. The temperature anomaly sometime around 1998 is often used. Better approach is to use something like a 50 year moving average to smooth out variation. There's no real pause. 20 years is way too short a time frame anyway.

Ok I got my head around the climate thing a while ago Still having trouble with the Monsanto one But a real big one is vaccines,I don’t believe in the amount of vaccines they have now ,I worked in a cheese factory and I’ve witnessed how things like listeria can out smart us,our chemicals would get stronger and every couple of yrs we would have to change the chemicals cause they didn’t work anymore, several occasions we had to shut the factory down and we would spend one to two weeks just cleaning and swabbing until we got x amount of days clear of listeria and all food product recalled. Viruses and bacteria mutate quickly and do this to survive,I’m worried that 50 to 100 yrs down the track vaccines become like antibiotics where the over use has cause a few problems. Are we weakening our natural immune systems by using lots of vaccines and will bugs( viruses) become stronger to survive. I’m with him completely on the climate crap cause I have followed this for so long. I’m an ex leftie who believed in everything told by msm but I question everything now. So I’m still not sure about Monsanto and more so about vaccines. So much misinformation out there. I’m also a big believer in if one side is pushing something so strongly and label the other side questioning it all ( like msm telling everyone to just get your jabs) and we know how the msm pushes hatred of Trump and weapons of mass destruction to start the war against saddam,so when they name call anyone or push anything then I’m like I don’t believe that’s how distrusting I am of msm now, cause we all know how they push this human made climate change stuff. So personally I wish dr Patrick Moore had just stuck to the climate subject. Again I’m if msm says it’s good or just do it or pushes one thing while labelling the other side something nasty like deniers or anti or nazis or racists then I just can’t believe them. Sorry.

During March 2015 in an interview by French investigative journalist Paul Moreira, on French television station Canal+, Moore was asked about the safety of the herbicide glyphosate. Moore told Paul Moreira that one "could drink a whole quart of it" without any harm. When Moore was challenged to drink a glass of the weedkiller, he refused, saying "I'm not an idiot" and "I'm not stupid" before ending the interview.

The truth lies somewhere in-between. There are lots of flaws and cognitive distortions on both extremes of these arguments and I hear Mr. Moore positing many important facts, but also skipping over some complexities. Both sides do it. We would all do well to be more impartial, better listeners, and more ardent in going after the Truth and seeking solutions that bring us more in-synch with our planet's processes.

I love the free spirit of Patrick Moore but I think he is partly wrong on GMO. GMO in itself is not necessarily good or bad. Indeed the seed is probably noy going to harm you. But Bayer Monsanto for instance makes seeds so that the plants grow mostly to be glyphosate based herbicide resistant. That is harmful as we now know these herbicides cause cancer and contain heavy metals like cadmium and arsenic. Also the seed are sold for one year and monsanto strives on suing farmers. Due to these more than 250 000 farmers, particularly in India, have taken their own lives. Also GMO is made to be grown in monoculture, which has very harmful effects on wildlife. The inventors of GMO tech say themselves that GMO doesn't increase yields. The public is not always right, like with climate, but it's not always wrong like the 66 countries that highly regulate GMO.

ponch0partout yeah I’m with you my jury is out on this But I go a step further I am very sceptic about vaccines and I have a few reasons,I’ve seen listeria in my factory that I worked in mutate and we had to stop production on a few occasions and spend weeks just cleaning and over my 17 yrs I’ve seen them have to change chemicals due to them no longer working against listeria etc and then also antibiotics not working like they use to. I’m concerned that in 50/100 yrs time we find we have weakened our natural immune systems due to vaccines and that flus and chicken pox mutate to become to strong for even the best vaccine. So I am very concerned about vaccines. I was once a die hard global warming freak head but I know this is lies cause I didn’t just start following it yesterday but almost four decades again and none of their prediction models have come true,we haven’t run out of resources like they said we would and seas haven’t risen to the point of us swimming for it and the ozone is all good again now.In fact I was such a believer in this and because of the over population thing I did my own personal bit thinking I was helping to save the human race,I didn’t have children but now I realise my mistake but it’s to late for me but I’m worried that the kids of today are gonna be so scared that there is nothing to live for they just give up on everything cause the push today is even worse then it was back in the 80/90 ,today they even teach this bs in schools but back in the 80/90 we only learnt it from the tv. So yeah I’m worried about the kids of today and the fear tactics that are been pushed at every younger ages, politics moving into schools. It’s really very disgusting actually.

This is a very strange interview. He says many things very quickly seemingly to support a general point but he doesn’t go into any detail about them to provide evidence. Example: “Nobody died from the Fukushima disaster.” Besides the fact that it is not entirely false, he makes the wrong conclusions from it. The low number of people who died is due to very efficient evacuation from the areas most likely affected by the radiation OR the possibility of radiation exposure. Since they were evacuated quickly how can you conclude that therefore nuclear reactors are safe? Which is what he seems to be hinting at? It is a very strange line of argument he is using.

Everything good comes from and is controlled by God - mortal men work for Him, or against Him whether they know this or not - I reckon this explains why Christianity is the way to the Light - or so it seems to many Englishmen of my age. It is beyond mind-blowing to consider this... T S Eliot did a good job of trying to grasp the mysteries that we face daily - and will never know, perhaps, in The Four Quartets. So, sometimes, when I hear some dreadful paid-for scientist or imbecilic presenter babbling on I put this poem on in my head - or a piece of Vaughan William's - and I remember the sky and I actually come alive again!

GMO seeds are not allowed to be kept by farmers to plant the next year, thereby limiting farmer’s profits by following centuries of farming practices - that is what the Indians are saying about those seeds! 7:23

Moore is right about GMO's and nuclear power here, but he's also involved in the misinformation campaigns about AGW. The interviewer gives him a free ride as he doesn't seem to know either, which is a major problem as Moore rarely allows himself to be questioned by knowledgeable people over his anti-AGW position.

As for GMO's....so how can Mr. Moore explain why so many farmers in India committed suicide when their GMO seeds failed to produce successfully? Is he also saying that Glyphosate is ok to use in agriculture? Cannot follow his logic about GMO's. When a farmer plants GMO seeds, those seeds will not be able to reproduce again, unlike heirloom or non-GMO seeds. So farmers are forced to continue to buy the GMO seeds. Who is paying Mr. Moore to make his claims?

Comments pertinent to Galileo Galilei are not correct. His theory concerning Heliocentrism: that the Sun - and not the Earth was the center of our solar system was not arbitrarily condemned. He taught his theory in the Universities of Bologna and Turin. And, in the assessment of Hilaire Belloc, an very militant Catholic apologist: "It was splendidly applauded in the schools." Galileo however, quarrelsomely, taught his theory as if it were fact. Which, at that time, it was not. When his theory was proven correct, the Church accepted it without qualification. Moore's statement that Galileo was held under house arrest for the rest of his life is also misleading. House arrest as we understand is not at all what house arrest was like at that time. Galileo could leave his house, he could visit friends, attend Mass, and was, to an considerable extent, free and without administrative and procedural restraints. Even several centuries later, the non - denominational Protestant mystic, John Bunyan, was also held under house arrest by the protestant authorities in England. But, (but), they still allowed him to present himself in the public domain. And to preach his doctrines and beliefs which "the authorities" of the time considered heretical. Patrick Moore's comments pertinent to plastics, and GMO foods, and seeds are refreshing and candid. And honest. He may however, consider re - reading his history pertinent to Galileo. And possibly, John Bunyan. As well.

Clearly he's all over the climate issue, but on everything else - GMOs, health - he's totally focused on narrow outcome measures. That's as sinful in science as making stuff up - more insidious in fact, because you can hide a lot of evil that way (and he does, to wit GMOs). I remember when the "Green movement" was the Ecology movement. It means you have to look at the whole tapestry and not get hung up on the individual threads. It was a counter to the compartmentalisation in politics that is so damaging. It seems Moore likes compartmentalisation, but in an ecological model you can't afford to do that. He certainly lost much of his audience when he called anti-vaxxers "stupid". Dear oh dear, stick to what you've studied, I suggest.
