Conversation with Chernow, Kail, Miranda, and Mead: 2016 Records of Achievement Award Ceremony
The National Archives Foundation honored Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Ron Chernow; Tony and Emmy Award-winning film and theater director Thomas Kail; and Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, lyricist, and performer Lin-Manuel Miranda with its 2016 Records of Achievement Award at its annual Gala on September 25, 2016.
During the program, the honorees discuss going through Hamilton archives, the process of translating the records into the musical, and the stories of Hamilton's life that they wish they could have incorporated into the show.
The Records of Achievement Award honors their collective work on the Tony, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize Award-winning Broadway musical “Hamilton,” inspired by the 2004 biography of Alexander Hamilton by Mr. Chernow. The Broadway musical was directed by Mr. Kail, and was written by and stars Mr. Miranda.

FACTS!!!
I think I may have watched like almost every interview with Lin, but only a few minutes into it this is already one of my favorites.
"Yo, lets roll up on Benedict Arnold's house and get him!"-Alexander Hamilton, probably, as said by Lin XD And what they said about the kids made me tear up, kids/teenagers need more credit about what they can do when passionate and what they can comprehend, it's so easy to say kids are just glued to their phones and aimless but if they find something to aim for its amazing.

Some pretty bad language at times though
I really enjoyed this interviewer! She allowed them to talk, didn't keep interrupting them, and seemed genuinely interested in what she was asking. Great video :)
I never get tired of listening to Lin-Manuel. I love how he takes the time to answer every question in detail and takes it seriously. Not just an amzing artist but also great human being. PS: Lin-Manuel is wearing white socks with a tux. 😂

This interviewer is really great. She asks great questions and then let’s them talk instead of trying to talk over them. Well done.
Loved what he said at 28:00 ... "there's one who needs you that night"

Amy Tucker it was so weird because I was siting at the dinner table and my dad randomly brought up that he went to school with tommy. I died.😂
I’m a little late to the party. My son introduced me to the Hamilton soundtrack in 2019. He made me listen to the entire performance as we drove across the country for his music audition, the winter of his freshman year of college. I was not in the mood for rap music and struggled to follow along. He paused and explained parts quite often. I couldn’t appreciate it at that time. When it was released on Disney+, we watched as a family. That’s when I fell in love with the play. Since then, I cannot get enough. Lin Manuel Miranda mentioned the dense lyrics. He is so right. so much packed in each line. Every time I watch or listen, I hear something new that I must re-search. Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote a masterpiece. He even inspired me to read Ron Chernow’s biography, that inspired LMM. The biography is so well written. I’m ready to read Washington’s biography from Ron next. I appreciate how this masterpiece of a musical has reignited my curiosities of our history.
I'm such a Hamilton fan, love these interviews.

Lin Manuel Miranda is a prodigy! A good human being!
LOVE THIS! Also... Lost it at "All she wants to do is talk about the Founding Fathers" lmao
am I the only one that, any time they would speak, I would feel this ultimate need to listen to them, a need to listen to the words of wisdom and everything they’re saying. and listening to all the inspirational words, and all the things they say and everything it’s just so much and so fast and I wish I had been around when it was all big. But now i sit here and listen to it all.
27:20 - 28:30 Thank you Thomas Kail, so much for that. This whole interview is wonderful, but that bit moved me to the core. Geez 🧡
such an insightful and delightful interview. kudos to the interviewer for thought provoking questions allowing due time to answer them.
Ron's laugh at the end... :')

I read this as Ron said it 🥺
Brilliant round table discussion here …
For the Young people moved by this Musical, google the ages of the founding fathers in 7/4/1776. Hamilton was 21. This country was founded by idealistic but driven YOUNG adults. And for the 60-80 year-olds watching this, google the ages of the founding fathers. I bet the same things were said about them in the day by their elders that Are said about millennials now (minus the cell phone technology). But look who founded this country.
Absolutely wonderful interview!
😂🥺❤️ I love all of them and Lin could read anything and I would listen to it
Priceless!
Great discussion.
HAMILTON: I heard you name in princeton I was seeking an excelarated course of study when I got sort of out of sort with s buddy of yours I may have punched him it's a blur sir, he handles the financial. BURR : you punched the burser. Also HAMILTON l: well if it isn't aaron burr sir. Lin Manuel Miranda and his puns
This was an amazing interview!
Fabulous
I really enjoyed this.

The play, mainly the soundtrack, is great. Hamilton himself is not all that great and without Washington ‘on his side’ he wasn’t much. Almost no one liked him and I don’t see him as a great thinker. Miranda apparently considered other figures (such as Lincoln) and settled on Hamilton when realizing they were being done by others, etc. And the second half of the play is markedly not as interesting or good as the first half. But the soundtrack overall is great on its own.

I love Lin, but please someone teach that man how to dress himself. Is he seriously wearing white socks with a black suit?
