Converge "I Can Tell You About Pain" raw multi-tracks [UNBOXING]

Eyal Levi takes you on a guided tour of the raw multi-track session for Converge's "I Can Tell You About Pain" from their 2017 album "The Dusk In Us," originally recorded and mixed by Kurt Ballou at God City Studios.

A few things to note about this Converge session:
- It's a classic Kurt Ballou recording: everything is raw, organic and nasty (in the best way possible). It's not tightly gridded, edited, and there are barely any samples used.
- There are 10 tracks of rhythm guitars, including a few tones as well as room mics
- 5 tracks of bass, including a DI, sub, and a couple different bass tones to layer in
- Drummer Ben Koller hits extremely hard, and these drums sound perfect for the song right out of the box. Very, very minimal sample reinforcement is used or needed.
- Several tracks of Jacob Bannon's vocals along with some backups and interesting layers such as "reamped" vocals for added chaos. The vocals were recorded with compression and distortion on the way in.
NAIL THE MIX is an online mixing school created by Joey Sturgis, Joel Wanasek and Eyal Levi - the guys who produced bands like TDWP, Chelsea Grin, Blessthefall, Machine Head, Monuments, Miss May I, Of Mice & Men, Reflections, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria and dozens more of this generation's best metal bands.
Every month, NAIL THE MIX members get exclusive access to the REAL MULTI-TRACK SESSIONS from a REAL ALBUM, and a 6-8 hour live streaming class from the producer who mixed it. These are the actual sessions by bands like Gojira, Meshuggah, Periphery, Karnivool, Machine Head, Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember and more - and NTM is the only place in the world you'll get access to them!

bass tone there's nothing like kurt's bass i've done things like use DI guitar/acoustic guitar for a similar effect to his acoustic tracks, but you just can't match his bass tone

The part about the snare sounding fucking stupid if you remove too much of the natural snare. (Avenged Sevenfold is the first band that comes to mind)

Also, the guitar part at 14:08 is recorded using an EGC guitar, I'm 95% sure about that. It has the characteristic metallic ring to it.

I'd imagine it's just the bass through a 5150 of some kind. I didn't get to watch this session, but that's my assumption.

It's made by Verellen Amps. It's a version of their meatsmoke amp. You can see Kurt talk about it in the "Show Us Your Junk" with him on the Earthquaker Devices channel.

Good job on the sample triggers and room mics. However, not sure if legendary Bruce Dickinson, non-politically-correct god of Iron Maiden, would call this "legendary" or "awesome". Me want to see 80s Maiden Def Leppard Ratt Queensryche Metallica Rush style mixes for my gorilla banana treats, thank's bros :-)
