Convair B-58 HUSTLER supersonic ejection tests

Ғылым және технология

This is a follow-on to my previous posting of the Hustler's ejection system development which can be seen at • Convair B-58 HUSTLER E... . This short film details ejection tests using bears and small primates which resulted in a successful supersonic ejection of a human.

Before or after they were drugged and shot out of a supersonic jet? I would assume sense this was a matter of science, the bears shat Before being shot out of the plane, And as they were drugged, They probably didn't feel much, Even seeing how well the bears heal after the injuries would be part of the test... Considering you want the injuries to be some thing one can recover from. this was non lethal testing, If the bears were awake They would probably choke them selves in the safety harness, Not to spoil your fun.

Yogi a female black bear rode B-58 ejection seat into the history books by being the first living occupant to leave an aircraft at supersonic speed and survived the G-Forces and landing. But a crueler fate awaited all the animals used in the B-58 ejection tests and Yogi shared it instead of retiring as the Supersonic Bear foe the public to admire. The term "later medical examination" was being killed and then dissected like frogs in school biology class because there internal organ mimic those of humans in the arrangement and it was why they were chosen. The B-58's crew couldn't be that tall because the ejection pod didnt accommodate those that were and if their feet weren't drawn back far enough the shell chop off the front of the foot.

I can't believe we used bears. I mean I get it. At the time, they didn't have much. But still. They didn't get a choice. Then they would be euthenized and dissected which is just cruel. I get it though and now we don't do such inhumane things. Well, except vaccines.

  • @dandare2586

To Dan D.. Sorry they weren't dying, but were drugged to the point of almost being comatose so they could be trussed up like a Holiday Turkey into the Ejection Seat. What had been known even before they were fired out of the rear of a B-58 was that pilots who had ejected experienced spinal-neck compression injuries to the effect of air blast doing what it liked with the helmet and the head which wore it. Rocket sled testing with humans not only showed that acceleration could be survived but the reverse as well and keeping the body imoblie especially the head was why a shroud pulled down over the face by a pilots arms triggered the ejection thru today. About the only thing shown in the B-58 testing was its Nautilus Shell like ejection seat could work a supersonic speed but it was safer to exit an aircraft as it fell losing speed or trying to recover it not punching the moment it went to wrong. The reason why Yogi and others were killed even after the trails were over was in part to dispose of them and a few data points where studying the effects one them months-years later made more sense scientifically. Indeed the infamous Tuskegee Syhpillis Experiment allowed the group only receiving a placebo drug to go thru the entire horrific effects until death occurred for the same reason because statistically it looked better on paper if test subjects died for the mathematics involed...

None. Only after two test pilots were killed were bears used. No more widows, no more fatherless children, no more loss of highly skilled human life. The result was the development of a safe means of escape from an otherwise fatal mishap. Oh, another result is that nearly fifty years later a bunch of clueless tards think they have something to pontificate about.
