I did. My dad was very controlling, I could not go anywhere. When my parents divorced at 14 y/o. I just did everything what wasn’t right. Around year of 21, I did go to therapy for my childhood. If any parent sees this. I understand you wanna protect your child from all the bad things in this world. But being strict isn’t the answer. Always try to have an open relationship with your child. Let them feel save and free with you and comfortable enough to talk to you. There is already enough bad things in the world. Let you, and your home being the save place and not their nightmare.

Parents, never force your kids into the career you want them to be in. Let them decide and guide them with love. Expect them to do well in school but don't make them do things just to boost your image. That's wrong and you will regret it later on.

It's one thing to be strict when raising children, it's another thing to be entirely controlling when it comes to your children. Big difference. Strict isn't detrimental to their well being, but controlling can be downright devastating and harmful. I know a woman who always tried being extremely overbearing + overprotective/controlling of her children, and they were honestly well adjusted, well behaved kids. Once they got older, they began rebelling against her. Goes to show that being a controlling parent isn't the answer & is more harmful than helpful.

I can def. relate to this whole story. The trouble w/ some parents is that they can't understand that families are made up of individuals & we have to respect & accept each other's differences. I mean, there's nothing wrong w/ parents wanting their kids to follow in their footsteps, w/ the proviso, of course, that that's what the kids want as well. After all, life's way too short to be living miserably trying to live other people's personal goals & dreams. In short, life's way too short to be living a lie.
