Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video we go over the last three elements in the mod 1 test. The controlled stop, the emergency stop and the hazard avoidance.
Hopefully you've enjoyed this short series, just a reminder the setup in these videos isn't to scale for the mod 1 test area. There is a link below should you want to practice this to scale in your own time.

    Excellent vids on the Mod 1. You fully deserve more subscribers. Great tip you gave on the U turn, tuck your right elbow in to your side. I still go out and practice this as I found it tricky to do and I’m getting tighter U turns with your help. On the speed exercises really listen to the sound of the engine as you don’t have time to look at speed. One tip I found useful for the hazard avoidance was aim for the outer cone, gives you the best chance of not catching the inner cone

    Hey man, glad you're finding them helpful. Yeah you're not alone with the nerves for the mod 1. I was more nervous about the mod 1 than mod 2, but once I'd practiced everything over and over and I was comfortable with it, I found once I was at the test centre the nerves disappeared. The mod 1 itself absolutely flies past. I was only out for about 8 minutes, so it's a super quick test. Once the mod 1 is done the mod 2 is pretty much just a ride about town with a guy in your ear giving you directions. As long as you stay calm and focused you'll be good. I start my training next year to become an instructor so can't wait. All the best for test days bud. Great name as well btw, I personally love to fly fish every chance I get. 🤜🤛

    Bit concerned about getting to 30mph in such a short timeframe. I have a 10HP Yamaha YS125. To keep engine happy I'd usually be in gear 4 and that would be 4k rpm. Not sure I could do it in gear 3 even. Perhaps a lot of warming up and just pinning the throttle.

    Hi M.E., FYI, that vacant former Homebase unit is getting let soon, that car park will be busy in future I’m afraid. I know the Springkerse site and know it’s ideal and there’s nothing I can find near Glasgow where I am that’s like it. Enjoy it while it’s empty. Good vids BTW

    Last week I kept on messing up the hazard avoidance, I kept smashing the the cones cos it felt fast and then swerving, I was a bit nervous but then I got it . It looks very simple . How much pressure do we need for the push ? It seems slight . If too much you’ll hit the other cone . So you need it just right on to get thru the gap

  • @MotoEcosse

    @MotoEcosse

    2 жыл бұрын

    There's no exact pressure. It's all comes down to the bike, the bikes weight, the rider etc. It's just something you'd have to practice without cones first. The maneuver itself only takes a second or 2 so you're doing a quick push on the handlebars. Also make sure you're not looking at the cone. If you're looking at it the chances are you'll it. Look at the gap in the cones where you want the bike to go. 🤜🤛

    On the avoidance I was told the official line now is you only need to be in-line with the final blue cones, you can stop before, between or after as long as you're lined up. However always best to ask the examiner on the day what they want to see. One examiner told me I have to stop between them, the other said anywhere lined up was ok. I still stopped between them though as didn't want to take any risk of getting a fault.

  • @MotoEcosse

    @MotoEcosse

    I was told, at least at the time anyway it was to be between the cones. It still amazes me how much difference there can be between instructors and examiners.

  • @BillyHey72

    @BillyHey72

    @@MotoEcosse it's so inconsistent even between examiners at the same test centre, one will give minors for things like going round the yellow cone on the figure 8 but another will even tell you it's ok as long as it's done in a controller way. Yet they're all supposed to be testing to the same rules.

  • @MotoEcosse

    @MotoEcosse

    @@BillyHey72 yeah one thing I noticed is with the figure 8 one of my instructors said it was ok to go around the last cone on the slalom and another instructor said it wasn't. 🤷. I also heard of this happening on mod 1s(going around the last cone) where one student passed and one failed. It was also different examiners. It can definitely make it confusing at times for learners.

  • @ericmilligan3

    You make great informative videos, thank you for that. On the emergency stop, you said roll off the throttle straight after the speed trap, that’s the bit I don’t get, it’s supposed to be spontaneous therefore defeating the object. Wouldn’t the examiner hear the engine break?

  • @MotoEcosse

    @MotoEcosse

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not really. The thing is you're rolling off the throttle when you're above 30mph so you're only really slowly down by a few mph before the examiner raises his hand so the stop's still done around 28ish mph give or take a few mph. Some instructors may teach this slightly different, this is the way I was taught and the way I did it on my mod 1 and had no issues or minors. Hope this helps. 🤜🤛

  • @BillyHey72

    @BillyHey72

    I was told you could get a minor for anticipation for rolling off the throttle before the hand goes up. But I guess it depends on your examiner on the day. On my first mod 2 attempt the examiner picked me up on everything, including stuff I didn't think I'd done. Second attempt examiner was a bit more relaxed and only got 1 minor for speed on the avoidance.

  • @MotoEcosse

    @MotoEcosse

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@BillyHey72 yeah it definitely depends on the instructor as well. They all have different ways of teaching. I rolled off for my emergency stop on my mod 1 and it was fine. Always worth double checking with your instructor before hand.

    I rolled off as trained for avoidence and emergency no issues at all with that. I actually got a "safety chat" for going fast on emergency stop ( I can't remember maybe 40-42 mph)and was told I would be making life difficult for myself doing avoidence at that speed so I slowed down and came 1 mph under so picked up a minor.
