Control your horse's energy. Prevent run away horses. Run hard then stand still.
No matter what you do with your horse, you want to control his energy and this includes teaching him to not run off with the rider. You want him to work hard then relax and recover so he can work hard again. This run hard then relax applies many disciplines and is essential to be a successful equestrian.

I like how you get the horse’s brain engaged. Good tips!

Thank you. Many people forget that it's the brain that they are training.
I like the way you work with your horses. It is much the way I like to work with children! Parents should watch your videos to help with their children*****

Yes working with kids and horses is very similar.
Good demo and clear justified descriptions of the actions with practical example
Another thing I'll think of the next time i'm riding :-)
Especially in trail riding!
I wish I had an arena to work in I just have a small 200 x 200 paddock my horse is always wanting to be on the go but I have noticed if I face her away from her comfort zone where she always hangs out at she will stop and stay, you have been great help I tried your stopping method of going in a circle and picking a post to stop at and we have come a long way thanks for the videos 👍🏻

You're welcome, I'm glad to hear the videos are helping.
Had a horse take off running while I was riding it today. I am hoping that this will help me get down to the cause and fix it!
These words are pure wisdom. It all resonates. 💜
Nice to watch you’r fine work 👍
I ride Colombian pasofino horses at that level of work. My handlers call it the moment they "get stung" sometimes it's is quick to reach and I notice when the "disconect" clics on. I'm working on that with a broke horse I bought recently. Have to almost begin at zero. Great video!
I have a young horse who is meant to be used in barrels ofc I haven’t started her yet because I want to do slow work first. All she wants to do is jog in place when we walk and try to run off when we trot and when we canter all she knows is fast. She also tosses her head. Im hoping this can help

I have another video where I'm working speed control with an OTTB a little different way. You might look at that one too.
This will be a good exercise for me to start .. didn't know how to read the signs ... Thanks

Let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching.
Would love to see the action a little more close up in the future. Thanks for some great advice.

It's a challenge to be close enough so you can see but not constantly zooming in and out causing to viewer motion sickness. We are working on ways to do it better. Thanks for watching.
Hey good video thanks for that, question is how do I bring the horse energy down, you showed in the video that the horse shuts down but how do you actually train him to shut down... just by stopping???

Think of it like if you are at the gym. You do something to get your hear rate up then you bring it back down. If it takes too long for your hear rate to come back down then you got it too high. Same with the horse. I bring it up then bring it back down. If it takes too long or he's fidgety then I got it too high. When a horse's heart rate goes up his flight instinct can kick in which is why the run off with you but you have to gradually work him with it up a little to teach him to control his flight instinct.
👍
That is a nice video. It looks very easy on videos but very hard in reality. I am new to horses and I have a question regarding the stop here, is it just the WOO only which should teach them to stop???

There are a couple ways to stops, I've done a few videos about stopping.

I was on a trail ride the other day with a group and some woman didn’t understand why the horse didn’t stop when she said whoa haha. She was on someone else’s horse so I assumed she knew what she was doing… it’s very dangerous for her to think she can talk to a horse and the owner was irresponsible to her and the horse doing that
The horse I’m riding has a fantastic energy level in the walk and Trott (actually he gaits). In the canter he is either really good or a maniac. I am currently dealing with that by turning around and do that stretch on the trail 3 more times. That is working that he will stop his maniac attempts. Lunging is the same. Suddenly he is into stallion behavior. What would you do? I am currently letting him sweat it out by alternating canter, walk, halt. Thanks

Typically that is caused from the horse traveling heavy on his front end and weak in the back. The front is pulling but the back is weak and having trouble keeping up. I'd work on rounding the back and strengthening the back end.

@@timandersonhorsetraining Thanks so much. I will try that out. You are right, the horse is actually not stepping properly under but goes flat. I am not used to gaited horses, therefore I thought that is the way they are going.
Hi Tim. What if your horse doesn't stop and/or stand still?

Hey Kimberly. I covered that in the beginning of this video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6GGrcudmaqze7g.html
Will this transfer to heading out to a trail ride?

Yes
I feel like some of your videos are being watched by people “renting” horses to go on trail rides where it’s transactional. Let me say this- IF you aren’t experienced and have ANY questions do not be shy about asking staff before you get on the horse. I’m serious it’s easy to see other ppl just hop on and totally trust the horse and trail guide but some of these operations are only interested in money and hire anyone and put people on whatever horse to get the ride out. If you don’t know how to give inputs to turn, stop ASK STAFF to explain and once you’re in the saddle they should watch you do it BEFORE getting on a trail. If they try to make you feel stupid or act annoyed bc no one else is asking that’s a huge red flag. Your life could depend on knowing the basics..a place that just does trail rides all day wearing the horses out is very unlikely to work them or fix bad behaviors so the more you know before heading out where the horse you’re on could bolt bc another horse did is scary when you aren’t experienced
