Teaching a distracted busy minded horse to focus

In this video I am working with a distracted, short attention span, busy minded horse and teaching her to focus on me and what I am asking her to do. This is a great exercise for horses who get distracted or nervous in new places. It does not matter what the distraction is, it could be grass, unfamiliar objects, scary objects, trail riding or anything else.

You're so gentle and considerate with the horse! They like your voice! Very soothing and encouraging! Your movements are slow and predictable. You give them time to learn to learn. Well done!

I moved my OTTB filly to a new, busy yard a few days ago. Yesterday's ride she had no focus so I tried your technique today and felt much more in control - thank you I will be using this again

This is Very helpful for me in working with my hot little Arabian gelding. When I got him he was all over the place and couldn't stand still. Now he is a LOT better ,but he is still too reactive. I have been working on helping him calm down and be more focused on me. Thank you, this helps a lot . What an excellent trainer you are !

It took me several days of short riding sessions but this worked perfectly with my OTTB gelding. He was spooky and distracted outside. I also implemented it on the ground and while lunging (another video of yours where the horse wasn't paying attention while lunging). I started it about a month ago and this past Friday I jumped him outside for the first time. I have another issue to fix now, but the focus was night and day. I can now go outside and immediately mount up without getting his attention through groundwork first. Thank you, Tim!

I kinda do similar., if my horse is looking at something to the right, let’s say, as we go along I’ll ask with the left rein and leg to listen to me. It works too 👍

Great to see you working a younger horse. Seems willing but I can see the frustration if someone is used to response and not knowing how to instill. You are also right about ground training..does not have to be at ground zero. Kinda defeats the purpose of getting to the root of the problem. Have a great day and thanks for sharing.

More great information on working with the mind, and not just the body. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to appreciate your training, as I'm not a big fan of the horse competition world. But you've shown me that there are trainers in that world that do have the horses best interest at heart. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge! Loving your channel. ❤️🌵☀️⛈️🌈☮️🐎

Horse competitions are to the horse industry what car racing is to the car industry. Most of the innovations I the car industry are because of people on the cutting edge of racing. It's the same way with the horse industry. All of the great training and health care Innovations are because of competitions. Just like the innovations that made space exploration possible have trickled down and made our lives better.

That was going on the whole time I was filming this video. My arena is 50' from a major road, the pond across the street had geese landing and taking off and I had a baby in the round pen playing with a feed bucket. I dont think there is ever a time when horses are not paying attention to stuff outside the arena.
