    I actually felt like going back to Control after playing Alan Wake 2. I remember that I liked the game the first time that I played, but I just didn't think much of it, and I thought that everyone was exaggerating when they praised the game. I'm excited to give it a second chance to see if I like it more this time around!

    Hell yeah. Finished it around 2 years ago. Got every achievement in the game. Absolutely loved the entire experience. Finding secrets, having fun with the destruction in the game, flinging objects at enemies, all very fun stuff.

    I finished it years ago (it introduced me to Remedy and I fell in love) but am now replaying it with some of the “Assist Mode” settings dialled on. These settings do things like negate damage received, increase energy recovery etc. If anyone wants to play for the story or feel like more of a badass give those settings a go, they don’t lock achievements either! On my normal play-through I did find some of the balancing was a bit inconsistent , I think it’s my only criticism of the game!

    I've started watching Control playthrough on youtube a few years back because I didn't have a decent PC or a console. I was intrigued by the story and the lore, so I decided to play it myself, got myself some geforce now subscription for a month and didn't regret it once. The gameplay is really fun! As for the diffuculty - I remember dying many-many times to the Mold boss, and in the Former bossfight, I was constantly falling through the broken floor :) But those were the only moments I was frustrated, I think. Oh, and the Formation is really difficult, actually. I think it's Control that got me deep in the Remedy Connected Universe lore. And man, that's what I love the most about it, there's so much lore in it. Control has connected Remedy's previous games - Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break. And it has set the foundation for the RCU, explaining (a bit, at least) how the paranatural works. In general, I am super excited about the future of the RCU! Control 2, Max Payne remakes, Alan Wake 3, who knows what else, could be anything!

    Can't wait for the Max Payne remakes and Control 2/Alan Wake 3 either! And yeah, the bosses were tough and unique. esseJ was one of my favorites for sure.

    I really enjoyed this one, had some really cool mechanics and the platforming was very well done. Video was well done with some really good cuts and the narration was clear and to the point. My only critique was the references to death and murder a little jarring, is youtube really that crazy about those words these days? all and all some good stuff! subbed and I look forward to future videos.

    Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I've probably gone past TOS in a few videos so I'm trying to play by the rules while being as creative as possible. I'll try to think of other ways to reference such things without having the algorithm take negative action on me.

    I started Control twice. Once , when it was initially released because I knew of and liked Remedy. Got a few hours in, and it didn't grab me. That was released on last gen hardware. Remedy updated the game for next gen. You can now go thru @60fps. I actually paid for it again for Series X. Played longer this time, but it still felt confusing. I got thru the combat fine, but I always felt lost and couldn't follow the story. Everything also looked the exact same. That's a huge thing for me in gaming. In Control, the Old House is ever changing but it never felt different to me. The locations all felt the same, even going into the mine in the early parts of the campaign. I was always running down the same hallway if that makes sense. It was boring. Watching this video makes me want to give it another go, so thanks. I'm not done with AW2 yet either, and dlc for that is coming soon.

    I'll say this, as a Remedy fan: While I've never really understood complaints about difficulty and never found Control all that hard (unless you're doing Jukebox runs or something), I think it's deeply flawed in a way you need to actively ignore to enjoy it. The first Alan Wake was going to be open-world until Remedy realized that wasn't working. Control is basically open-world, but I think it's got all the problems Remedy _was_ having with the Alan Wake prototypes, so I don't really get why they went that route? You've got no reason to go anywhere but your main objective. The few actual side-quests in the game are designed for you to naturally stumble upon them if you just follow the main marker, and if you don't, you'll just run into empty hallways and higher level enemies than you're meant to fight. There's absolutely too much roaming around, wondering if there's anything to find, and accidentally triggering an enemy wave because you walked over the same invisible tripwire for the tenth time. The Oldest House is meant to be a "shifting place" but I don't think Remedy figured out how to convey it. Alan Wake 2 actually plays with the idea _more_ than Control which is pretty sad. Meanwhile Remedy uses that as an excuse for Control's inadequate maps: they didn't want maps at all, actually, and threw them in at the last minute because playtesters kept requesting them. (Honestly knowing they want you to navigate naturally made the game _easier_ to find my way in, though.) While Control's world-building is great in the sense that it's Remedy's take on the SCP foundation, as a story it feels... half-baked? Every character is Saga Anderson levels of unsurprised by any of what's going on, to the point where it almost tricks me into thinking that's an intentional decision to crank up the "liminal space" vibe. The game's potential 4th wall break is reduced to "actually the power was inside me the whole time" for some reason, probably the lamest cop-out they could go with. The plot beats, personally, feel like the first half or even the first quarter of a narrative stretched out ridiculously thin. Imagine if the game's big reveal at the end was actually revealed much, much earlier, and the game spent a long time exploring the consequences. Imagine if your brother Dylan was actually a character rather than a vehicle for game teasers and a face for the Hiss to use. More than anything, after the 30-40 hours I spent with the game the ending left me thinking "wow, that's actually it?" For a narrative so focused on conspiracies and forbidden knowledge, a totally straightforward "and then Jessie made the Hiss go away and everyone was happy" ending didn't really cut it. And Control's combat... It's _fine_ but I'm surprised by how much praise it gets. It doesn't take long before it boils down to pressing E a bunch because the Service Weapon does so little damage compared to just chucking bits of scenery. While I appreciate the idea that you can just rip bits of concrete from the floor, I think needing to actually grab an _object_ that isn't nailed down would've been slightly more interesting. You sort of just float around and push E at things. Enemies become absurdly spongey and I say that as someone who usually doesn't care about bullet sponges. Rather than reacting to any of what enemies do, you're fine so long as you just continue running all the time.

  • @benefvctr

    @benefvctr

    So, it's part of the foundation dlc. You basically need to find a few cats. Maneki-Neko cats that are generally found after you complete a puzzle. There's 7 or 9 in total, I can't remember off hand. You need to find all of them and go to a cat shrine. If you want to get them I'd look up a guide tbh. It's a fair amount of work and the ONLY thing you get is the cat ears. There is no buff or anything. Purely cosmetic. Just want to make that clear before I send you down a rabbit hole.
