Contrast+ How to Paint: Abaddon the Despoiler

Ойындар

In this video we take a look at how to paint the Warmaster himself - Abaddon the Despoiler, using a combination of Contrast and classic Citadel paints. Scroll down for a full list of the paints used in this tutorial.
Abaddon has been the most requested tutorial to date, so we thought it was high time we tackled the Lord of the Black Legion! You'll be able to use the techniques shown in this video across the Chaos Space Marine range, and indeed on any black power armour-clad Space Marines!

    I’ve come up with a lot of methods for doing black now with Contrast paints so I honestly don’t know. I suspect this is the one I would go for for Black Legion as they have that really clean smooth black vibe as opposed to the more flat black or industrial style black

    Amazing work! I'm going to start a Black Legion army but I have the wraithbone primer. Do you think that will work? Or do i really need to use the one mentioned in the video?

    Sorry it's a bit late but It won't change the colours themselves so much as their warmth. You'll have more vibrant colours over wraithbone than grey seer

    Dude, thanks. If I can make a couple suggestions though? 1. Try and find a more stable camera mount (quite shaky at points). 2. Use manual focus rather than auto. Focussed on your hand a fair bit rather than Abby. Earned my sub though!

    Thanks for your feedback and your Sub! I film the tutorials on my phone using an articulated arm holder thingy, it’s a wobbly desk though and I don’t have the money to replace it yet! I’m looking at buying a couple of GoPro 4s and setting up a booth and everything but I’m a little ways off that yet 😁

    im still amazed at how nice your contrast work turns out. Everybody else's contrast work on here is a scary mess. Can a different brand of white or light grey paint be used for Citadel's contrast paints such as Mr. Hobby White Surfacer 1000 Aqueous spray can primer. It's really expensive compared to Citadel primer. A 71ml can cost me $16 or 17 Canadian dollars whereas a 400ml can of Citadel primer costs around $21-23, the mettalics are $33.

  • @Warhipster

    @Warhipster

    2 жыл бұрын

    It certainly can. White will give you a brighter finish for sure but they can definitely used. You just want to make sure it's a nice smooth coat before you apply the Contrast.

    You are an amazing painter, and I've learned loads from you as far as using contrast paints is concerned. But how you can put so much effort into painting models when you don't even pretend to putty the gaps is beyond me. It is called gteen stuff...and it is all that keeps your models from being as good as they could be. Such a shame, but it seems to be the standard now, ever since 5th edition or so. Thanks for all the great videos though. You rock. But I still want to buy you some green stuff. Lol. Imagine that Abaddon without those nasty gaps...he'd make the galaxy burn.

  • @Warhipster

    @Warhipster

    Haha I know I really need to get a hold of some green stuff. I’m so short on time sometimes that it’s a case of build it prime it paint it edit it all in a day. Abaddon was basically done that way as I had like 3/4 weeks left before moving and I knew I needed to get the Pariah characters done before I moved out! I’ll get some next time I’m out!
