Serhan Sarı Adele can‘t be an alto.. „alto“ is just a role in choir. But I guess you’re talking about the lowest female vocal type „contralto“ - her voice is way too feminine. Contralto‘s sound really androgynous. Adele sounds like a total mezzo.

Deane Bloem Mariah is clearly uneducated and misleaded by what her vocal fach is... like girl Mariah is not even close to being an alto lol, Mariah does not have the correct tessitura or androgynous tone. Alto isn’t even an accurate term, it’s a contralto and Mariahs voice is far too feminine and high to even be considered a contralto. You don’t have to know much about vocal pedagogy to know Mariah is not a contralto lol.

Deane Bloem Do you even know what you’re talking about? literally none of that made sense. “Alto” is a misconception to refer to a woman’s vocal fach,Alto” refers to the range or notes to be sung and is not exactly a voice type. The term ‘Alto’ is commonly used in choral singing to refer to the vocal parts to be sung by singers doing the Alto section. And no, I am not referring to Mariahs “strong head voice” whatsoever. Mariahs low notes are only deep and husky because of her nodules and around Eb3 Mariah uses an unhealthy technique and lowers her larynx.... this note is EASY for a “Alto” and they wouldn’t have to resort to lowering their larynx. Mariah does NOT support these notes and her timbre is not androgynous at all, infact her voice is far too feminine. Mariah is a Coloratura Light-Lyric Soprano period. that is factual and point blank obvious, you sound dumb really calling Mariah an alto lol!

I read in a vocal analysis that only Sohyang is one of the most rare singers that actually can stay in a true soprano's full scale and range . And even without stressing or straining. Her ease is impeccable. Notice how she fully opens her mouth to create lot of space that helps to rebound the sound. Sometime girl dosen't even slides into high notes, just jumps an octave in chest voice. Making me bald again and again.

Your sentence doesnt make sense. A soprano’s range is determined by one’s ability to connect passagio from chest-mix-headvoice. A soprano doesn’t necessarily need to be able to belt a B5 using mix voice as there is no requirement for that, a soprano normally only required to sing it using a well supported headvoice B5. Thats how vocal classification is done. Thats being said, so many broadway/ classical singers are classified as true soprano who fully supports a soprano range. Your lack of understanding in vocal pedagogy is very misleading.

Songsource an acceptable soprano range among classical is based on general tessitura, which stretched from G3 to C6. The person didn't even said anything about belting or HV. They just said Sohyang is among a few non-operatic soprano out there who can consistently singing in general full soprano range without stressing/straining, regardless if it's belting or not. That's all.

And even without stressing or straining.....” she did not mention anything about being non-operatic sopranos. And that being said, lady gaga, beyonce, jojo, lea micheal, Morissette amon, jonalyn viray, ailee, son seung yeon etc are the other pop singers who can sing fully within a soprano’s range (considering they dont belt their upper register instead using their well supported headvoice), who some arent even sopranos (mezzos). And if we were to take her/his words literally, there are many classical or operatic singers who could well sing within a soprano’s full range.

People are always the most amazed by really high notes, and understandingly so, but i feel like theres not enough recognition for women with strong lower register. As a mezzo myself, i'm trying to expand my lower range and it is HARD.

This seriously just helped me to understand my voice more. It's all about where my voice is comfortable sitting most of the time. Even if you can reach notes in the attic AND the basement, it's about where you're comfortable sitting.

I understand nothing about vocal range & keys but SoHyang's voice always gives me chills, she's incredible.

Although Mariah as Soprano she can still hit a decent low notes compared to other Sopranos.

swift 1989 Mariah's lows aren't of a Contralto as a Contralto has a manly timbre throughout the registers.

I believe that contraltos are underrated they because people doesnt know about music.. they believe low notes are easy and high notes are the only ones which deserve recognition.

A perfect example of a contralto with the androgynous sound is the 1980s-1990’s singer, Tracy Chapman. She has a very good voice that projects very well. The two hit songs of hers that showcase her voice are “Fast Car,” and “Give Me One Reason.”

You mean contraltos. There is no voice type called alto. Alto is a voice in a choir that sits in the middle to low female range and is usually sang by mezzos, but can be sung by contraltos and sopranos with good middle and low notes.

THAT'S who that is! Dead Can Dance? I haven't heard her voice, but her singing is rather stunning. Love that melody!

I hope that So Hyang is known more for her moving performances rather than her high notes because thats what defines her as an artist, someone who gives her 100% in every performance and her insane belts are usually a result of that. Too many people mistake her for a belting maniac after watching these clips, what they don't realize is that she is almost belting her heart out during these momemts It's the same as taking a sentence out of its context and interpreting it literally which often gives a whole different meaning to it. Consider it as doing a favor to a fellow human being and please go through her videos first before jumping to conclusions Thank you.

@@shiftyclouds9591 Ehhh, Not really. She has a high tessitura so she does sing higher than most sopranos, but she still using vocal dynamics and word painting. For example, there's a very clear difference in artistry and vocal tone between This Is Only My World and Arirang Alone. Like sure, High notes are a signature of hers, and her fanbase really likes them. But when it comes to reality, she thrives in creating dramatic performances, not only vocally but also with the orchestra. Music terms are slipping my head right now, but she helps organise the orchestra. So every single dramatic squeeze-your-buttcheeks moment she manages to get out of you is because of her artistry as a musician.

Sohyang's tessitura is exceptionally high, so of course her voice blooms tremendously as she ascends however, Mariah's voice also blooms as she ascends just not in the same way as Sohyang's.

This video was so well put-together, informative and clear. I learned more in five minutes watching this than I had previously retained in my 35 years. Thank you

Contralto sounds androgynous (it sounds Male at first, but something is "off") in the low register, and cavernous in the middle register; with the unique ability to crescendo in middle register. The flip from low register into "head voice" mirrors the Male Bass voice, right around F4#. The Contralto "head voice" tends to be overly bright, leading less experienced (or lazy) teachers to teach a true Contralto as a Soprano. I am so proud to share this rare sisterhood with my fellow Contralto's.

So I'm definitely a contralto. My vocal range is D3-G5 and it sounds androgynous in the low register, and cavernous in the middle. Head voice around F#4/G4 😀

Here's the standard vocal ranges: Alto: C#3 to F#5(passagio:Bb4 ) Mezzo: E3 to A5(passagio:C5 ) Soprano: G3 to C#6(passagio:E5 ) Edit: I'm writing this for some people who can't use their brain........ We say that tenors can sing upto E5, it doesn't mean that it's all chest voice!! We know that Tenors usually get fully into the mixed register near C5/C#5....... Similarly there's a limit to which these voices can take their strong chest voice to......... Beyond that they'll have to mix(just like any male voice type) Chest limits: Soprano: G#5(or sometimes A5) Mezzo: F5(or sometimes F#5) Alto: Eb5(or sometimes E5)

Beyonce is a coloratura Mezzo soprano and Mariah.....um....she is a lyric soprano but mariahs voice has gone lower due to vocal issues which lowered her voice...Beyonce was trained as a kid in vocal lessons thats why she can nail almost all soprano ranges

It's not hard for me. I am a soprano and I sing all the way down to an F#2 (below that I have to use vocal fry).

I really don't understand why people only show enthusiasm when they hear high notes. Its harder to sing low with power and make it beautiful and pleasant to ears. contraltos and basses should receive more recognition for their dedication and hard work. Honestly, I'm getting really tired of listening songs using just high notes in order to "impress" the others.

There are many contraltos who can belt F5’s tho

Melonie Daniels is NOT contralto. She's a Mezzo-soprano (Dramatic).

For contraltos the note F5 is the most higher for lyric and dramatic contralto, for coloratura contralto the note Bb5 is maxime. The difference the mezzos and contraltos is what notes whistle is impossible for contraltos.

That is Arirang Alone. But I like Son Woo and Song Sohee's Performance too in this segment.

The very first Contralto sounded AMAZING! I'm an Alto, but can occasionally sing higher notes.

That very first voice is just amazing. I can't get over it

See I felt the opposite. Sounded like she was singing through her nose. Way too nasal that it was like nails on a chalk board.

Guys, this video shows the difference between Contralto, Mezzo Soprano and Soprano. Btw there are singers who can sing comfortably in more than one vocal type: an example could be Beyoncé who can support both high and low notes. It's just about how comfortable the singers are in their vocal range. Hope you enjoy the video! :)

I’m a mezzo soprano. The lowest note I can hit is between a C#3 and a D3. The highest note I can hit is between a E6 and a F6. So proud❤️

I didn’t realize that contraltos existed until about a year ago. It’s totally changed my technique. I can now dig deeper into my chest voice to hit those soulful notes. Also I love to sing “I put a spell on you” with my contralto voice.

Your video has just helped me realize that I'm more mezzo than soprano (which I've always thought)! Thanks! I CAN sing the highest registers, but I have to practice a 5th or 6th octave note a bit to reach it and get it to not sound strained.

I MP head production, i’m still working on the transition from my mostly chest production to my high range head production, because even though i can sing the notes, the transition is really messy
