As someone who detests cooking, I love watching these shows. It amazes me to see the passion that some have for cooking which I will never fully understand as it seems so foreign to me. I did feed my son healthy meals all of his life but when he was about 18 he started doing the meals as he enjoyed it (for a while). He still cooks my dinner for me, the sweetheart. I don’t even know how to turn on our new cooktop and he has put the child lock on so that I don’t turn it on accidentally 😂.

I’d love to see a show where the critics have to put a dish together. Any one can critique food. Not enough salt. I’d put tomato ketchup on that. Where’s the bread for dipping in the sauce?

It looks (& I imagine tastes) wonderful, but how in hell can this be a main course? It’s about a quarter of a smallish main meal. Time for a sense of reality please.

  • @ori-yorudan

Main courses on multi-course meals are usually around this size, remember that they're served with 3 or 4 other dishes of around the same size. Ends up being quite a lot of food when all added up (more than a standard dinner plate of food). They're also not designed to make you feel full, but instead feel "satisfied". These are also dishes for a competition, where the judges are eating like 4 or 5 of these in a row, no point making it a large portion because they definitely wouldn't eat it all. That's the reality of the situation.

@@ori-yorudan The problem being that overly pretentious restaurants serve portions like this (or even smaller) & after a 7 course tasting meal you are left feeling hungry & a lot lighter in the wallet. Less decoration & more actual food is required. A reasonable portion of fish or meat in a multi course meal main course would be around 8 ounces, if it’s a simple 3 course meal then a larger serving.

William, the critique on the right actually criticized michelin starred cooking & even applied as a commi for a day at Marcus Wearing Restaurant during the documentary: "Michelin Madness" on KZread. So yeah, most critiques don't have enough culinary expertise to judge food accordingly. It gets worse yet, as many food bloggers rather want to take pics of pretty plates to post on their Instagram, rather than actual well cooked food. Which has been the case for the last 10 + years now. Since even in culinary school the emphasize over appearance over flavor has switched significantly.

That's as valid a point as criticising a film critic for not being able to make a film, or an arts critic for not being to dance like a ballerina.
