Contact Lens Tips for Beginners | Eye Doctor Explains
Learning how to insert contact lenses doesn't need to be scary. Pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Rupa Wong, trains a lot of first time contact lens wearers in her eye clinic. In this video she shows you:
How to elevate your upper lid to insert the contact
Which finger is best to use to put in contacts
How to practice so your eye doesn't roll around
How to know if your contact lens is flipped?
What is the taco test for contact lenses?
Why your contact lens is stuck to your finger and won't stick to your eye
And so much more.

Hi Dr. Wong, I greatly appreciate your help for your own three children. Atropine, greatly reduces accommodation. If you keep your three kids using Atropine, they will never "enter into myopia", during the school years, and for that reason, never require contacts. More power in your sincere efforts! Thank You Dr Wong!!!! It was almost impossible to put my contacts in - I was getting discouraged !! I got these in about 20 minutes on my own !
Just started wearing a contact in my left eye, this gives me a chance to see better between now and my one month follow-up appointment post cataract surgery in three weeks time. At that point in time, I might have another glasses prescription made if I really can't get used to contacts. I'm going to be having another cataract surgery on my left eye hopefully in July, so I'd be lieing if I said I wasn't enjoying the sneak peek into clear vision without needing glasses, it's just really frustrating. Thank you for the video, it served as my reminder to just keep trying. Hopefully I'll get it eventually!

Trystan, did you have your surgery? How is your vision now?
I have a strange situation, first timer. I am wearing Acuvue moist with lacreon 5.00 and 6.00 because my eye sights are different. When I wore it the left eye had no problem, but the right eye had a bit of double vision in the left side, this situation never happened in my bare eyes or when I'm wearing normal glasses. When I took them down they obviously became different colors, one turned blue and the other turned green(maybe they're already blue and green when I put them on but I was too nervous to spot the difference). I took the right eye con off the normal way, pushing it to the wide corner closer to the ear and it came off, but the left eye came off because I subconsciously rubbed my eye too hard during the removal process. The left eye con that became blue had clearly the "123" signed printed on its skirt area, but I can't see the 123 sign on the green one I took off from the right eye. So I'm worried that could it be because I peeled someone off but left a layer of the con still inside my eye? Or because the eye drop I used washed away the 123 sign? I am a bit worried about the situation...
Thank you so much. Honestly i have never gotten explained to by a doctor, however. this video changed that. wow. thanks

I don’t know if this is the case for all contacts, but I do believe all lenses for astigmatism have them, and I unfortunately didn’t know of this until years and years of wearing them. I use “Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism,” which are equipped with a little line etched in the outer circumference of the lens that lets you know how to insert them in the correct position - something that’s necessary if you have an astigmatism. The line should be vertical and centered at the bottom. Prior to knowing this I’d have to wait for my contacts to properly position themselves after inserting and that wasn’t always a quick process. Especially when they were nearing the end of their life cycle. It’s also helped with knowing if sudden blurry vision is due to them shifting.
Im here in the waiting room of my training appointment watching your video, I’ll let you know how I do!
Today was my fitting. I’m 50 years old and wish I would have watched this before going in. Man was I frustrated. I now know how to practice to make it easier. My eyes did everything you said today at the fitting and I felt silly. Thank you for this video. Cheers

Went to a 'boots' opticians (huge mainstream pharmacist./opticians here in the UK) for my assessment/training for contacts and this was literally the training video they made me watch (which i already had)! Kinda shows just how good the advice shown here is!
Since I have astigmatism my contacts are big and it’s hard to them in couldn’t get the right on in after 20 attempts but got the left one in 4 attempts and struggled getting it out
Thanks! Are we supposed to move our eyes around once the lens touches the eye to complete the bond bcuz that’s what I was told to do and I didn’t see that in the demo here. I will allow more time and try not to get frustrated 😩 lol. Bcuz it’s a little frustrating that I can’t get these in again on day 2.
Thankyou... Can you please tell me why my eyes burnt the first time i put them on after training?? Should i be worried??
