Construction of Tony Fisher's Truncated Golden Cube Puzzle

This is how I transformed a factory made version of my Golden Cube into a cuboctahedron. I wanted to call it Cuboctaminx but that name has already been used. So I simply called it Truncated Golden Cube. The video also shows how to make awkward shaped stickers.
See- tonyfisherpuzzl... for information on this and all my other puzzles.

At the very beginning you should be able to see some lines I have drawn onto the surface of each side. I used these as a guide to ensure everything is cut symmetrically.

@clickclocks Yes. I tried to cut a Megaminx down into a rhombic Dodecahedron shape. I knew it would be on the limit of possibility but it was actually just over the limit and fell apart. There have been a few others also which never quite worked out.

Remember it has a part turn built in so in some ways it already is. However since It only has 2 'layers' of rotation in each direction I am not sure if it's really comparable.

I have several construction videos. These give you an idea of how to make puzzles. I believe it is better to develop your own techniques than blindly copy what I do.

Smooth cast and Alumilite are both popular. Mine is just some resin I had left over from years ago. The powder is just a filler to stop it being too transparent. There's no reason why anyone would set out to use this resin and powder nowadays.

It doesn't clog so quickly so you can use it longer and wash it when it does clog up.

I am not sure it would make any difference. If it was spinning the other way it would constantly be trying to pull what you are "Dremelling" up and out of your hands. So you would most likely move it into a more secure position where it was once again spraying you.

WOW! I never thought of using masking tape to keep a cube from moving while I cut it! that would have made my half truncated cube job a WHOLE lot easier! I had to spend a ton of time tightening the screws, and the stress probably wasn't that good for the plastic =P

Hey Tony, do you think that dremels should spin anti-clockwise instead, so that right handed guys like us don't get sprayed in the face with molten plastic? Or is there a good reason for the direction of rotation?
