Pbs made a documentary series called the story of the jews with Simon schama its a little biased and outdated but pretty accurate

I knew there weren't going to be any new revelations in this episode as soon as they said they were covering both Jesus's descendants AND the moon landing. Waste of time.

most historians believe that Jesus existed as a real historical figure like Napoleon or Joan of Arc...this is regardless of religious belief; they think there really was a guy who was the one who inspired all of this.
