Considering Quitting YouTube? I Am Too

Ойын-сауық

Hey folks, Cody here from Wranglerstar. Today’s video is a departure from our usual content. It's time for a heart-to-heart about something that’s been weighing heavily on me. This journey on KZread has been one of the most rewarding adventures of my life, filled with incredible projects, amazing discoveries, and, most importantly, a community that feels more like family. But there’s a shadow that’s been growing longer with each passing day: the grind of creating content specifically for the KZread algorithm.
The truth is, the relentless chase to stay ahead of the algorithm's ever-changing demands has started to take its toll. The joy of sharing my passion for homesteading, DIY projects, and the simple life has been overshadowed by the pressure to produce content that “feeds the beast.” It’s become a cycle that I never intended to be part of-a cycle that’s draining the joy from creating.
So, I’m standing at a crossroads, contemplating a question I never thought I’d ask: Is it time to quit KZread? Not because I no longer love creating or sharing my life with you, but because I want to get back to the core of why I started this channel. I want to make content that excites me, content that’s true to who I am, without the constant worry about algorithms, views, and engagement stats.
In this video, I’m laying it all out there. I want to discuss the possibility of taking Wranglerstar in a direction that prioritizes passion and joy over algorithms. Can we create a space where the content we share and the projects we embark on are driven by what we love, rather than what an algorithm dictates?
Your input has always been the backbone of this channel, and now more than ever, I need to hear from you. What are your thoughts on prioritizing content that’s true to our roots, even if it means stepping away from the algorithmic game? How can we redefine success on KZread to ensure it aligns with our values and what brought us together in the first place?
Thank you for being the most important part of this journey. Your support, feedback, and engagement have made Wranglerstar what it is today. Let’s have an open conversation in the comments below about where we go from here, and how we can continue to build this community together, focusing on the content that brings us joy.

Someone once told me, even something you love to do, becomes a job when you have to do it. He was a hunting and fishing guide in Alaska. And he said there were days he didn't want to do it, due to illness, tired, or other, but he had to, because he had to make income to feed himself and his family. Even though he loved it, it became a job.

Since I’ve found your content almost 3 years ago, I’ve gotten sober, I’m currently training to be a wildland firefighter, I have an amazing bond with my family of which I had never had before. And I am happy. Am I horrified at the injustices of our country? Damn right I am. But to know that I can look forward to learning something new with you every week is a pleasure and I get excited still every time I see a new video. Even if you quit KZread, please don’t stop making content, because there are people that value what you put into the world.

Having worked in Hollywood for 25 years, I completely agree with your synopsis. Genuine KZread is much better than the silver screen could ever hope to achieve, especially for those of us who have awakened from our Egoic Mind prison of the system. Thank you so much for the 1000’s of hours of life enriching contentv Cody. I’ll be here for whatever you upload.

I have been here personally for over 5 years and love what you do but yes it’s gotten away from what you used to do so if that’s your passion or snowbikes/ dirt bikes or just changing the oil on your trucks, I’m here and can’t wait to see what each new episode bring you for joy so we can watch and indulge! Ten years ago, I was looking for info on KZread that were related to off-grid living and sustainability. The first video I came across was Wranglestar's sharing of how to put together a ram pump and also improving on it's efficiency. This channel has great content . Some of the content is useful or entertaining for me. Some I'd care less about. But that content creators choose to share their knowledge, skills, ups and downs, and various stories, goes to show how much enthusiasm and passion they have for their craft. Those are the exciting things about watching and choosing what to watch on this platform verses what's fed to you on paid platforms. Thanks for opening your heart Cody.

I was walking thru a fair one time and a guy was painting cartoon character type portraits of people for $20.. Behind him he had a bunch of paintings of abstract style art looked weird.. I asked him if he painted those too? He said he did and that was his real love.. painting those weird paintings… Yet he was starving due to no one wanting to purchase those … the way to survive was to paint stuff people were willing to pay for … the cartoon pictures of themselves… he hated it .. yet he needed to eat… if what you love to do pays the bills .. great ! If no one continues to buy your paintings .. then do something else … right ?

You said “looking over your shoulder “. When I was in 7th grade I had an old XR80. A few months into it I blew the top end. The local motorcycle mechanic told me it would cost X to fix it. I was just a kid and didn’t have any money. I asked my father for it and he told me he wasn’t paying for it. So I went back to the motorcycle shop and talked with the owner and we made a deal. He said come to the shop after school and clean the floors &windiows / wash bikes ext and I’ll pay you $5 an hour. He said I’ll start the job when you have made enough money to pay for half of it. Of course I said yes. Fast forward 6 or 7 years I could work on all my own bikes / equipment. I learned a lot more then how to fix motorcycles looking over his shoulders. He also became a life long friend. 40 years later I still wrench on all my stuff. I have a garage full of quads, dirt, bikes, and equipment. Carpenter by trade, welder / all around handy guy as a hobby

Now I’m back to doing what I like and could care less about the monetization. I don’t make enough to care on here but I genuinely enjoy making my videos. Glad to hear I’m not the only one

Have to say i enjoy your content. I only recently ran across the channel (last year or so). In the end the only thing that matters is your personal happiness so if the direction of your content changes or you stop. I would be good, i will still watch. Rock on with your bad self!

Love the genuine message and getting back to what makes you happy doing your videos. I've been a subscriber since I was 18 and I'm now 27. Myself and I'm sure many others are excited for the simple videos by the fire and momma kitty working on small and large projects that you enjoy versus what the algorithm enjoys.

Cody, you hit the nail on the head; the authenticity is the big draw. I have learned so much from you and I thank you for that. I have no doubt that whatever it is that interests you and you decide to put onto your KZread channel. There’s something I will also find interesting and will learn from it. Thank you for your work and thank you for your inspiration!

You are absolutely right you should have a dynamic job you have passion for and do what you love and spread your passion. I notice in med school that you last longer with what you do and much more pushbacks will not break your love for that job so easly. I would imagen a life like that too where all could do this and just shift over to something else if you presume that. That is a healthy point of view in my opinion :)

You're right I don't particularly like motorcycles and and i've never been snow biking. As of matter of fact i've only seen snow twice in south georgia. But what I do like is watching you work on your motorcycles with a passion and enthusiasm that I have for things that I like. So as long as you make content for motorcycles, chainsaws, preparedness whatever it is, im going to watch it cause I enjoy it.

I uploaded my first KZread video in early 2007. 17 years ago! I haven't uploaded a longform video since early November, over 3 months ago. I'm like you, we started for the fun of it. The joy of sharing content. I'm older than you and the love of it is challenging now. All the best to you and your family.

People grow and change if they wish to become better. I started watching treehouse videos. I don’t always agree with everything you say, but I love you like a brother (we’re neighbors) and respect what you’ve accomplished. Follow your heart and do what YOU want to do. I’ll consume the content that I’m interested in and ignore that which doesn’t work for me. Peace to you and yours.

I became a content creator to document my journey on my regenerative homestead in central Montana, but if i can i would love to beable to make a living off of youtube so i can grow the ranch organically. If a person is going to do something do it to the best off your abilities and keep trying to learn more every day.

YES SIR! That's the way to go. It's probably good for some (!) creators to be able make some decent money on YT, but frankly the commercials suck hard these days. Particularly if you want to watch a few videos in the row. Thank you for sharing your passion with us. Greetings from Germany!

All respect to you, I stopped making content on insta, in the beginning it was because i really wanted to share outdoor skills, and learn new! I soon understood that i did things for likes and that alot of people just want to know what brands, gear to buy- the skills come lowest in the list! I am happier now, actually teaching kids in real life how to enjoy the outdoors. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Your videos have actually introduced me to topics, tools and hoodies I had never even considered. So thanks. I’m happy to be along for the ride.

Cody, I'm really happy to hear this. The reason I became a subscriber is because you inspired me to want to do more than I was doing as a homeowner and a 'manager' of my family and property, as well as the window it opened onto your life and family and how you live, a little slice of which I wanted to recreate where I am now. And of course, because you were unashamed to talk about the word of God. I will follow you whatever platform you choose to continue on. My only concern is for your income and ability to support your family, but it sounds like that may not be a problem even if you left youtube. Blessings on you brother.

Cody, if there's one thing I admire about you, it's always been your honesty. Your content arc is the stuff of legend. I started watching when your timber frame was stolen. Now I get to learn all kinds of stuff from forestry to civil disobedience tactics lol. Keep making what you wanna make, the real ones will be here. I wouldn't be mad about you going deeper on Ham radio and setting up an LP/OP though either.

I’m glad you’re saying this. So many great creators that I used to LOVE watching have changed to follow the algorithm and their content has suffered. Some so bad, I can’t even watch them anymore. Not going to lie, I used to watch you until the algorithm changed you. But after this, I’ll be watching to see what you have coming. Thanks for speaking for all of KZread

Cody... I have learned and grown a lot from watching you.. I can stay that I am a better person today from learning and hearing your thoughts insights etc.. you stated that you loved movies, well not to be trite but to borrow line from an older movie "... if you build it they will come... " I truly believe in that, which is what got me into your channel many years ago.. Please keep on building and we (I) will come to learn and grow together on this journey we are all on.. Your Passion for what love is inspiring and while I am not going to be rebuilding a motor cycle anytime soon your process and attention to the details really resonates with me if things I do around my homestead.. Keep up all the great stuff..

Cody you are human, a husband and father. You did what you felt you needed to do to provide an awesome life for your family. Have fun with what you do. People will watch and do t worry about what they comment or say. You and I have emailed a few times as well as Mrs W. I have learned a lot from watching your videos. I do miss your wildland videos (10 years and going myself this season) but HAVE FUN!
