I really appreciate you bringing these aspects to the forefront. You were one of the first youtubers (in an older video) that I saw flat out saying handbags are not investments, contrary to what many influencers usually state. Yes, brands keep rising their prices, so the prices on the secondhand market also go up, but to the average person, that doesn't necessarily mean profit. Usually it doesn't even mean covering the original cost. If you don't have a platform (like a YT channel or instagram profile with many followers) selling your items is a lot of hassle. I do buy my bags and clothes as investment items, but never in terms of resale, always in terms of an investment in myself. By that, I mean that I buy them with a view to loving them and wearing them for years to come, of course this doesn't always work out, and that's okay, I'll hopefully have learnt more about my own taste and what does and doesn't work for me! I do agree, that a lot of You Tubers talk about bags as a financial investment, but as, at the point of purchase, I don't intend to sell, it's not something that is important to me. Especially as those big ticket items are considered and thought about for a long time, while I'm saving for them.

@@danishpastry6137 Yes, my criticism is precisely aimed at those who refer to designer bags as financial investments. Emma has pointed this out in another video. As personal investments, i.e, things that you'll wear longterm and will bring you joy I 100% agree.

If you live in Australia I have both bought and sold bags through The Purse Affair and I highly recommend them. Having said that, Emma is right, the preloved market is in a low cycle at the moment so it’s a great time to be buying, not so good to be selling. The next high will come, they always do, it’s just a matter of time.

This sums up the reasons I want to avoid selling, but I'd probably just a take a lower percentage to have it immediately off my hands! 😊

I’m glad you mentioned that right now it’s not the best time to sell. Everyone is strapped on cash and or making other decisions. I do follow some resellers on insta and dislike when they post why no one is buying. Um because stuff is expensive now and we are making other decisions.

Yes ! Insure ship mine usually cost upwards of $200 but it arrives 1-2 days max well worth it 😊

I usually sell trough Vestiaire Collective and had good experiences so far. It is best to go through their authentication process, as buyer and as seller. But recently I sold a bag through VC and got scammed. They ordered it per direct shipping and it arrived at the pic up store. Somehow (a day after arriving) the tracking info showed that the package was send again to the same pick up store. Icalled and they said the package was not picked up. I have no idea what kind of thing they did, but I never saw this package again (it is still on the way somewhere :D). Luckily, Vestiaire just payed me the money for the bag and closed the case. Amazing customer service! I still can't believe I got scammed. I don't understand how. I will never ever ship directly again. And always take good pictures of your item. So many bad people out there. I also miss this bag and regret selling it. Selling is really stressful so nowadays I would think TWICE if I want to go through this hell again.

I agree with you Emma my Apple Watch is a fixture. I sold my Rolex too I prefer my Chanel watch over it.

Personally, I feel like if I'm debating it, I need to keep it; I'd rather wait until I feel sure so I can feel good about selling it and getting some money back rather than feeling stressed and worried that I'm going to regret selling. The peace of mind is worth so much more than the money. So many times I've considered selling something because I wasn't using it, even though I still liked it, and then a little while down the line I came back to it and started using it a ton. Unless it's a Birkin, it's always going to cost a lot more if you decide to re-purchase than you'll get from selling it, and you never know which items will become hard to find, so for me, keeping it is a better bet.

I once ordered a bag fron Vestiaire Collective that went missing in transit to have authentication done - there was no problem with getting a refund (although it was me tracking the order that flagged up that the item hadn't arrived and seemed to have been in a parcel centre for many days). I was glad that I'd paid by credit card (despite having funds in my account) as I knew that if Vestiaire didn't come through, I'd still got some extra protection there. I've since ordered other items from Vestiaire with no further issues of any kind.

Great topic Emma I have to sell a good number of bags as my husband and myself are moving Downsizing ready for retirement I was influenced into buying many bags over the time I have been watching KZread and now need to sell them in readiness for the move obviously bags such as the Celine Luggage tote, Givenchy Antigona, Prada Double are not as popular as they once were so I may have to sell for next to nothing Just recently I sent photos to a website of a YSL Souple in mint condition their offer to me was £270.00 I declined this offer as I felt it was way too low I can’t possibly take them with me so may have no choice 😢

I’d buy an Antigona, I think it could still be rocked depending on your personal aesthetic and the size of course as I hear they can get rather heavy.

I read that one should videotape the boxing and handing over an item for shipping, as additional proof and protection from scammers.

The smaller consignors have been giving better quotes like S2C and Redelux in the US

This makes me feel lucky that my sense of luxury is Kate Spade bags and I can sell them on Vinted lol xx

So odd that people have asked you to sell their items… that definitely sounds fishy/questionable.

I disagree. Emma has a great platform and managed to sell items during a period where it is hard to sell. I understand the temptation to just want someone to do this for you.
